Don't need it.

I own a 2nd gen 8GB and a 4th gen 64GB. Even that is not enough space for my entire library and I've had to trim a lot off to put new music on. I have a 64GB Moto G5 coming which can support up to a 256GB micro SD. Between the internal and the SD card I should have enough space now. Only issue is finding a decent music app for Android. I liked the layout on the ipod touch. Most of the apps on Android were a bit of a mess, it was very clunky to search for songs which. They have foobar2k on Android now, I'll probably give that a try.

Because I use an iPod for music and picked up a 7th gen Classic for $160 a couple years ago and holy shit it came with 160gb storage instead of 32gb before OS and formatting. Fuck that.

I'm not a stupid monkey who can't handle Linux and Android.

Check out bTunes lmao

Why aren't there any good android based players with a good DAC and running vanilla android?

Why would anyone buy an iPod? Are there still people out there that carry around a separate device for music?

... in times everyone owns a smartphone? Why buy more shit to carry around?

It has a garbage screen and uses the aging A8 chip. We're currently using the A10 and A10x with A11 currently being produced by TSMC for the iPhone 8.

Give me an iPod touch that mirrors the current iPhone hardware but without cellular radios and I might be interested, but honestly I'd be more inclined to have an iPhone for calls and music and an iPad for media consumption.

try poweramp

>not using a raspberry pi with a battery pack and custom gpio buttons for all your music

I have a Clip Zip running Rockbox with a 128GB MicroSD card, why the fuck would I spend $200 on 32GB of pure garbage?

Too fancy for a music player, too small for a tablet.

You're never gonna get a gf with a Clip user. Jamal has an iphone, I think you can guess where she's going tonight.

Already have one.

An iPod Touch isn't an iPhone, Jamal.

It's like 95% iphone Tyrone.

its the iphone for tyrones so they can say they have an iphone but just make calls over wifi using a shitty app.

bugridden piece of shit that claims to be able to be registered without playstore, but needs playstore nevertheless because the only email it accepts it googles official email client being shipped in play store or gapps

fuck poweramp and his good features

nuke him

That's actually pretty smart you know, that way it's harder for your hoes to call you back after you leave them to acquire more bitches.

I have an iPod touch, it is very thin, very convenient and very fast to use but it has became a dust collector after I bought my iPhone. If you have a smartphone, you probably won't need it too.

>owning a music player with no physical controls
(you)

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH that's right get em!

Let's run down the list

Android phones let you:
>have real encryption with no backdoors
>download over 100MB over mobile data
>install a third party app launcher and icons
>use it as a flash drive
>share any kind of file over wifi/bluetooth
>torrent via torrent clients in the playstore
>install apps outside the playstore
>modify a few system settings to increase performance and decrease battery drain
>manually control complex camera functions via third party apps
>natively browse files
>view better colors via amoled displays
>browse Sup Forums and natively open webms inside them via third party apps
>extract/browse archives
>add additional phone storage via a micro SD card
>replace the stock battery with a bigger one
>add widgets to your home screen
>access important functions by swiping down

Also it doesn't have a micro SD slot and battery life is absolute dogshit.

I don't see why anyone would get this piece of shit over say an S5 active. Both are $200 right now.

phonearena.com/phones/compare/Apple-iPod-touch-6th-generation,Samsung-Galaxy-S5-Active/phones/9718,8665

It's good if you want basically an iPhone that can't call for a cheap price.

Other than that, I wouldn't recommend it.

Actually, when you are a free man, you may get your voip login data from your provider and use your flatrate at home using an app but it still fucking sucks

Which ITouch versions have quality DACs? My 1G sounded really good but then I read they changed it

They are burning off stock before they cancel it too.
RIP the shit Nano and less shit Shuffle. I'll miss earlier versions of you every once and a while.

Pic related.

5th gen $30
$35 for flash card
$40 for 128GB SD card
$10 for new battery

you can buy an iPhone SE on a prepaid service 32gb for $200 then jew their CS pajeets into unlocking it by pretending you were on the plan for a year. That's what I've done with 4 of the iPhone SE's I've purchased for myself and my family.

or get a cheap android phone for £20 and a 32gb micro sd card. Or even, golly, use the phone that you already most likely have.

I have no need for one; I've already got a phone and a DAP.

Because an iPhone SE 32GB is only 159?

Yeah, but I don't around.

It's mainly because I fill my phone with gaymen apps, Sup Forums reaction pictures, and ebooks and stuff.

64GB ipod touch was purchased for next to nothing like five years ago and just sits in inn center console eternally hooked up to the USB port in there.

>not having iPhone

Don't CARRY IT* around...

Why the fuck do they still sell ipod touch? Who buys that? For what?

I still have my old iPod Touch 4 since 2012. The headphone jack doesnt work anymore but the thing still works.

If I use it as a pocket watch battery can last me several days.

Parents buy it for kids. No joke.

This actually

That's cool. I ended up gutting my 5th gen(it stopped working) to steal its 1.8 inch HDD to replace a failed one in a netbook.

So, this shit is basically a smartphone that can't make phone calls? Why the hell does it even exist?

because it's funner

How often do most people actually use their smartphone for calls? If they do make calls they usually do it through an app like Skype anyway.

its also gimped with worse hardware, and worse screen.

Why would you want to be carrying two full phone sized devices around like a mong?

>200 bucks for blue bubbles

I have one and it's great. A lot of men have offered to inseminate my brown hole

i got a first gen 8gb model for Christmas and fucking loved it. For 3-4 years i was my main device period, i did everything on it. Hell it was the first device i looked up porn on.

It still has a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Sweet!

you can buy an mp3 player costs 25$, and treat is like shit without worrying about it.

fucking moron buying a 200$ mp3 player

I have a smartphone with 64GB of storage and a microSD card slot with a 200GB microSD in it that cost me less for both items together than that iPod touch costs, it runs a better mobile operating system, it's not as locked down in practically every respect, it runs a customized ROM tailored to my specific way of using the device, and it can make actual cellular calls even though I use VoIP for all of those so WiFi works just as well.

Fuck you, OP, fuck you deep, hard, in the ass, with an iPod touch.

My smartphone already has 128GB of storage and is able to connect to Spotify anywhere.

...

>samshit
>not Xiaomi
Come on, Gearbest is having a big sale on them as well atm.

They get better and better. They share the same audio hardware as iPhones.
They have better sound quality than most "audiophile grade" products.
kenrockwell.com/apple/ipod-touch-5g/audio-quality.htm

>While publications funded mostly by advertisements from makers of expensive cables, power conditioners and outboard DACs don't want you to know this, the iPod Touch 5G is a better audio source than most DACs will be when connected to a computer or CD transport.

>have real encryption with no backdoors

Hah. Stopped reading there. What exactly quantifies “real” encryption? Software based? Because that’s what 99% of Android phones use.
Backdoors have been proven in the Snowden/NSA leaks years ago. But then again who needs a backdoors when Google already knows more about you than yourself. Oh, and (((Eric Schmidt))) is bed buddies with NSA/CIA as well.

I bet you’re a fucking blast at parties, if you were ever invited to one.

Why would I buy a device that does everything my regular phone does without a sim card?

>t. iPajeet

Not an argument. You have no argument.

>$199 for this piece of shit when you can get a fully fledged android smartphone with better specs and microsd expansion for $100-$150

wow imagine being this dumb

t. Pajeet

I have a smartphone which does everything it does but better. I love my old ipod touch but I've barely used it since I got a smart phone.

just got an iphone 7 for $750 but with 1 year free phone service, which is like $500.

That's cute.
Not a 7+ red limited edition 256gb with 2 years of AppleCare plus and yearly upgrade, like mine, payed in cash, but still cute

Android is open source. Please point to us where in the source code the backdoors are.

source.android.com/source/

After that please show us the latest iOS source code so we can confirm there are no backdoors.

>inb4 "just le trust le literal cock sucker because I'm random XDdddd---"

>"I make horrible financial decisions, please praise me"

I still use mp3 cds

Stay poor my friend. $900 doesn't mean shit if you are over 25.
Stop asking allowance and get a job.

test

i thought you were dead

I've been tempted to buy a Touch for a while, just to have an iOS device.. but then I wouldn't have an excuse to not help my normie brother and sister with their many Apple products that they constantly have retarded problems with.

what?

i agree 64gb is not enough space for a good shuffle. it's a lot of music but it's not enough if you plan on listening to your device all the time. at the least a good shuffle where you're not hearing the same things very often, you need at least 20-30,000 songs. i'm upset that there's been no real attempt to sell to this kind of market and that relatively inexpensive high capacity portable music players don't exist when they very feasibly could.

leave it in your car. portables are for people that don't really like the radio and that's pretty much it.

...

>perfectly happy with iphone 6s audio especially at 24/48
>better than some dacs i have auditioned
>cites kenrockwell and his rhode and schwartz analyser

i thought i was the only one bro...

>buying an mp3 player for 200 dollars
Literally making one yourself is cheaper than that

Nobody runs pure android. And even excluding the Google ecosystem, the modem, firmware, bootloader, and drivers are all proprietary and phones don't function without them. No custom ROM will change this - if you want actual security, you simply do not use a modern phone, period.

>not having an android with a good DAC like the V10/20
>not having BlackPlayer or something equivalent
>not having a 64GB micro sd card
>not having your lossless music re-encoded to opus or 320kbps mp3
Sad!

True but Android is as close as you can get to a phone with good security and privacy as possible because at least you can review the OS source code much like you can on loonix.

iPhones are the last thing you want if security and privacy matter to you at all. Especially since those repeated fappenings and relevation that that CIA and FBI have their cock up so far up apple's ass it exits their mouth.

>have real encryption with no backdoors
Not on the SD card though, unfortunately. I have my internal storage encrypted but the only way to get it to encrypt the SD card is to use the SD card as internal storage, which means throwing out 32gb of internal storage.

>use it as a flash drive
A fucking shit flash drive. MTP is garbage.

Other than that, yep, that's all right.

Top kek, I wouldn't take that piece of shit if you gave me $199.
>implying 32gb is enough
>implying 32gb for 199 is somehow justified for a glorified mp3 player

>glorified MP3 player
It's a full on smartphone just with less radios

>>not having your lossless music re-encoded to opus or 320kbps mp3

you dun goofed there

>V10/20
Bootloop

I dont feel like buying a 1 TB sd card when I can just compress it down and save money with very little loss in quality

Nigger, 200 bucks will get you a decent android phone with micro sd support. That piece of shit has absolutely no right to exist. Anyone buying one should be hindered on reproduction.

I bought a 32GB iPod Touch nearly 9 years ago.

>what is drivedroid
Be thankful we even have MTP on Android at all. Rumour is jewgle wanted to get rid of the file browser support in gingerbread+ and make their own itunes bullshit a requirement to access android phones.

I'm not gonna fucking pay $200 for that shit tier memory.

128gb drives are almost that much anyway, might as well get an ipod with your purchase

Compare it to an iPhone

>what is drivedroid
Not a replacement for UMS that's for sure. It's useful, sure. But it's mostly to boot images.

>re-encoded to opus or 320kbps mp3
>with very little loss in quality
>muh dac! muh v10 and v20
Can your phone even take 1tb SD's without bootloping?

Yes? Ive been using LG phones for years and never had problems
>works on my machine

>leave it in your car. portables are for people that don't really like the radio and that's pretty much it.
so my car can get broken into? Why would I want this in my car anyway? It has Android Auto and Apple Car Play so this device would be blocking the superior functionality provided by my smart phone.

Bootloops are a meme. I've got two LG G4s and neither has bootlooped. Even if they did you can send it back for a free repair.

I pretty much always have problems with my LG phones after around three years, but at that point I'm looking at upgrading anyway.

Only if the issue wasn't so big that LG was sued because of it being present in the G4,G5,V10,V20,N5X... oh wait...

>works on my machine
Remember to post on the /spg/ when your phones don't boot anymore!

Don't reply to me when you are not talked to.
Thanks!

>Vanilla android
Don't understand why that's a big deal, but the Fiio X5 and Fiio X7 are your best bets.
