Underrated

I don't have any 5.25" bays. I have a laptop.

>What's in your 5.25" bays?

>5.25" bays

I always thought it was a dedicated snack drawer.

How can something be underrated if you only wait 30 minutes to announce it?

.cupholder

Ironically it just so happens that a drawer just like in OPs picture is the only thing I have in my two 5.25" bays right now.

I used to have a 3.5" multi-card reader with a frame in a 5.25 bay in my old system. The motherboard currently in this box only has one USB 2 connector (and two USB 3.0 connectors) and I use that for the front panel. I do have a "stick"-type USB 3.0 card reader so I'm not sure if I'll stick to that and buy a second drawer or get a USB 3.0 card reader. One tiny problem is that all the "USB 3.0" 5.25" and 3.5" card readers on epray and chick express are just USB 2.0 readers with a USB 2 connector and a USB 3.0 hub.

Seriously, why? I went through all my CDs and DVDs and threw them away years ago and haven't had a CD/DVD drive in my box since.

>floppy drives are 3 inches

Underage detected!!

> not knowing that floppy drives were the original purpose for those 5.25" bay
> never having owned a IBM XT with two 5.25" floppy drives

come back when you're 18

I converted my 5.25 bays to hot swap bays. It's way convenient, whenever I want to swap around a hard drive I can do it easily without having to take apart my rig. pic related is what I'm using. I also have another bay that holds a standard size desktop hdd.

Grandfathered from an old build. Can't remember the last time I used a CD or DVD, but doesn't hurt to have it in there.

I actually did have my mom ask me if I could burn a cd for an older lady friend of hers that's stuck in tech from 15 years ago, and it wouldn't even read the cd-r's I had, so the drive might not even be able to write anymore.

Tell us more, I am specially curious about the noise.

I've looked at various variants of this on the Internet but I always stop when reading something like

> Dual 40mm fan

How noisy are these dual 40mm fans? I assume they would have to spin quite fast to move any air, them being 40mm manlet fans and all. I'm also concerned with the noise from the harddrives themselves since these things never seem to have any noise isolating features, not even rubber mounts.

>it wouldn't even read the cd-r's I had

When did you buy the cd-r's and how did you store them? It may not be the actual CD/DVD drive that's the problem.

They're ancient. Like 10-15 years old.

Oh, and as for storage, they're sitting on a plastic spindle, how I bought em.

I didn't hear it at all but I'm using this case so it might have something to do with it: newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA68V2CX7228

A radiator, a reservoir, and a bit of tubing.

...

2.5 and 3.5 drives + 2 USB 3.0?

The absolute madman.

Just built a desktop after using a laptop exclusively for 6 years. Corsair Carbon 88R case with a single 5.25" bay. Installed an adapter to put in a slim BD-ROM (for blu-ray ripping) and a 3.5" multi-card reader.

I'll show you what's 3 inches
