PSA: KDE is broken on Arch Linux. Even with a complete default install, after a random amount of time Dbus server will essentially break, you cant open any programs until reboot/relog.

Exact error message: "Session bus not found\nTo circumvent this problem try the following command (with Linux and bash)\nexport $(dbus-launch)"

Time to install Gnome?

Jus trying to save people some time.

>using kde
just use windows

>something on arch is broken
STOP THE PRESSES

When you're at the point where you post PSAs on Sup Forums I think you've had a bit too much Linux

most things arent broken

>using a distro whose developers don't bother to make sane defaults in a stock install full of lennartware
Use Korora or Fedora.

yep gnome is solid kinda like xfce
been using it for weeks - polished, sleek, gets out of you way and comfy, also reliable because wayland and hasnt crashed

>Fedora
news.softpedia.com/news/Linus-Torvalds-Smashes-the-Fedora-Project-Calls-Them-Stupid-393127.shtml
at least they update the install images heck even ubuntu do that

Use GNOME.
GNOME is a DE from developers to developers.

>full of lennartware
>use Fedora
kek, gud one mayt

works on my machine
you fucking gnome shill

this is from 2013. now linus uses fedora as his main os

Why does my GTK2 theme look like shit by default?

Why is everything so laggy?

How did you install KDE? What package?

bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=228585

proof?

GNOME is a set of storage occupying packages from lennartfags to lennartfags.

well let's be fair, Arch is a distro that uses systemd, so the lennartcancer is already present

so?

If you're going to use arch why use full kde? Bits and pieces of everything (largely excluding gnome) is how I run my arch laptop (which has been my daily driver for a year)

So if youre going to put forward the authority of a middle aged ex-programmer makes sure the authority is not a hypocrite.

well that's irrelevant isn't it

>excluding gnome)

>USING kde

LXQT + i3-gaps just werks fâm

Literally functions on my device. I installed the "plasma" group package, running the latest 5.10.4 version, nothing that even looks remotely close to your error. It's probably an issue of your hardware.

Interesting might try that

Just use Xfce with Compton. Looks good, is light, compatible and no screen tearing.

Quit being a bitch and trying to emulate Windows' UIs with Linux DEs.

>no screen tearing.
wayland

if you gon use compton might as well use lxde

Wayland isn't on Xfce, at least not Xubuntu 16.04.

some moron misconfiguring his setup doesnt mean the package is broken retard

>Sup Forums actually thinks spending hours fixing arch linux is time well invested

>kde
>arch linuxd

KDE is fucking cancer. I was running it on Debian Stable and jesus christ it was a piece of shit. Laggy, constant pop ups from Kaccessibleapp, applications bar not updating. This was all on a fresh install. Avoid.

>KDE is broken on Arch Linux
I've been using KDE for a few months on arch linux now,
Sorry to say but you are wrong OP, I would really like some proof that you've even attempted to run KDE on Arch Linux before because you honestly know nothing.
Shilling Gnome isn't going to help you either.

ya i know, it's on gnome

>debian
>stable
>kde
>on stable
>kde

KDE is shit on every distro.

>2013
Really had to go back to find that

>fedora fags derailing this hard
so... is fedora using up to date kernels for the new iso now

Cry more Furrdora shill.
Furrdora is shit and it's about time you have to admit it now.

>blaming kde for your distro binaries

>GNOME is bad
>systemd is bad
>Red Hat is bad
>Fedora is bad
I just want to have a nice distro (like arch with AUR or ubuntu with large community), but nooo, all distributions which are good are actually bad!
Is it possible to have something nice with Linux?

Void is not too bad.

Manjaro with Xfce

>systemd
void would be OK if I could make it work with wifi only on my laptop. Have to download some packages to make wifi work, but can't because no internet...

Ubuntu inside the best OS of all time (Microsoft™ Windows® 10)

keep dreaming

Havent even tried linux yet because of this shit

Arch+kde was looking appealing to me

word on Sup Forums is openpepe is best for kde

How? Only 400mb with gnome 3?....

When I use Gnome 3 it takes around 800mb o 1gb idle.
While KDE only takes 400~450mb, based KDE.

But I still prefer Gnome 3, something in KDE does not feel right.

So... How did you make Gnome 3 uses less ram?

Enable autologin in Users if you don't switch users (you can still lock it if you need) else gdm runs another gnome-shell for the greeter. There's a bug about it, maybe they'll make it on demand but who knows when, still at least there's this workaround which saves some 100-200MB on my pc. It starts at 440 or something and goes to about 550 or 600 and may go down back to bellow 500 some time.

Well I enable autologin always... Any special distro? Debian, Ubuntu, Manjaro?

try the slacc

oh i also don't have the whole thing (but still most of it)

pacman -Qqg gnome gnome-extra
adwaita-icon-theme
baobab
eog
epiphany
gdm
gnome-backgrounds
gnome-calculator
gnome-contacts
gnome-control-center

gnome-font-viewer

brasero
cheese
file-roller
gnome-calendar
gnome-clocks
gnome-color-manager
gnome-maps
gnome-sound-recorder
gnome-tweak-tool
gnome-weather
nautilus-sendto

it's just arch

that 450 is kinda a unicorn but it still happens, mostly it's around 550 or something

That can't be true
I've been using KDE on arch since plasma got semi stable and it has been rock solid. I'm not even meming it hasn't crashed a single time in the 7 months that I've been using it.
Yes I frequently update arch. The single problem I've had in years was infinality dying. Thats it.

ix.io/w6A
this is better than the gist that got popular everywhere

well it's about 800 now
>wondering if it will go down

Manjaro OpenRC with Xfce... or better, i3

I don't have this problem.

cloveros.ga/s/CloverOS-x86_64-20170801.iso

just use i3-gaps
t. luke

Stop using arch. It's a bad distro.

This. Use Void, Alpine, OpenBSD or even Gentoo (CloverOS)

>targeted at competent Linux users.
Stop hating Arch because it exposed your incompetence.

just use xfce4

>Origin: Canada
Wtf I hate Arch now.

Wow. Hates Arch AND Canada.
Are there any nice things you DO like?

>fedora is shit because linus says so
>what linus says is irrelevant
Your stupidity is angering me and I fucking hate fedora.

>>what linus says is irrelevant
how did you do that? and you're calling me stupid lol

and no fedora is not shit because linus said so but because what he said is TRUE

>something broke in linux again and you have to spend countless hours to fix it

KDE is buggy in general, not many people on Sup Forums bother using it these days.

LXQT literally uses the same layout and theme without the bugginess, afterall.

>KDE is broken on Arch Linux
I've been using KDE for a few months on arch linux now,
Sorry to say but you are wrong OP, I would really like some proof that you've even attempted to run KDE on Arch Linux before because you honestly know nothing.

kek that struck me too

Cool opinion bro. In my opinion fedora is fine because it "just works" out of the box on my old ass laptop wirh 512mb of ram. It even miraclously plays 720p anime without any problems. I will definitely try it again when i run into any problems on other computers.

I find most problems had on linux are on laptops with weird drivers for keyboards, wifi, etc.

wew lad, i have zero issues with kde on arch.

you're not luke

t. luke

>redditspacing modern memefag
>claims to be luke
I can belive it.

>baobab
why do they call their disk usage program baobab? it's named after some african tree.
>epiphany
using epiphany doesn't give me any sort of epiphany about anything when i use it to browse the web
>mutter
sounds to much like gutter. makes me feel like its garbage
>network manager
pile of rotting shit
>file-roller
why would i want to role my files?
>gnome-maps
like two people use this. worthless.
>gnome-clocks
why do you need more than one clock? i'll never understand why people use more than on clock. little obsessive are you?
>gnome-tweak-tool
that should be built into gnome as a standard feature
>nautilus-sendto
should be built into nautilus
>gnome-terminal
they removed transparency the last time i used it

i literally just uninstalled evolution, empathy, tracker services and some kind of goa daemon that i dont even touch, i know that gnome is bloated but at least is somewhat possible to make it lightweight, and even this shit os just from playing around with a VM

>random retard broke something
>can't even upload a fucking log properly
>package works for everyone else but insists on it being a packaging problem
>installs gnome without even attempting to properly identify the issue
Nice PSA, retard.

>Time to install Gnome?

If you want a desktop environment, yes, you should have done that from the start.

KDE is slow buggy shit which uses more harddisk space than Windows 10.

On the other hand are you sure you want a full DE ? A window manager is lean mean but will need some tweaking, also you will need to pick and chose your components to mirror the functionality you get 'out of the box' with a DE.

(You)

for:
>pacman -S gnome
all you need is:
adwaita-icon-theme
eog
gnome-control-center
gnome-keyring
gnome-session
gnome-settings-daemon
gnome-shell
gnome-shell-extensions
gnome-themes-standard
gvfs
mutter
nautilus
xdg-user-dirs-gtk

technically you can get rid of eye of gnome (eog) as well. it be very basic though but its a working foundation. gnome-extra is of course, just extra garbage like gedit. with above you'll pull in around ~450mb worth of packages. such as pulse audio. if you really want to use gnome i would advise installing a few packages and setting them up first beforehand like pulse audio and bluez.

Grepping through a proxy is the only safe way these days
