I recently went into an Apple Store and couldn't help but notice that the iMac display was extremely crisp and aesthetic. It honestly looked better than anything I've seen on windows. And combined with the Mac OS which is also significantly more aesthetic, it just looked very good.
Why is this? I can't find any display for a PC that looks as good?
It's crisp because it has about 4 times more pixels packed into it than the average monitor at that time. Has nothing to do with Mac specifically. There are standalone 5K displays. apple.com/shop/product/HKN62/

>Has nothing to do with Mac specifically. well it helps that their OS actually works on high resolutions unlike windows which just turns into a blurry mess for me

Fedora works fine on my QHD display.

vivid? sure, but the viewing angles, are dogshit.

Pretty much the same as imacs (igpu and mobile gpu on their latest models).

>iMac display was extremely crisp and aesthetic Its just a shitty 8-bit IPS display. You can get them anywhere

>I can't find any display for a PC that looks as good?
Apparently pic related has a great display too. But it's more than an AIO. If you have that touchscreen functionality, you might as well draw on it.
The imac is just a pc for consumers.
Levi Adams
>but man the 5k ones are gorgeous see its just a shit 8-bit display

Apple is garbage, it's all just smoke and mirrors. Their monitors are nothing special. If you want the best possible monitor out right now this is the best there is: asus.com/us/Monitors/ROG-SWIFT-PG27UQ/

2017 imac has the best screen I've seen. it's literally sex for the eyes. very bright, colors are perfect and you can't see pixels from even an inch way.
anyway, waaaaay out of my budget.

Windows doesn't make displays, does it?
Kayden Gonzalez
Neither does Apple.
Probably both are made by LG.
Brandon Cruz
>It's just an LG IPS panel No it isn't. There isn't a single LG display that matches iMac 27" resolution, color reporuction and nits rating.
> nothing special. because you haven't seen it or used it.
Wyatt Martinez
Apple does not manufacture displays. So, it is made by another OEM.
Isaiah Cox
>So, it is made by another OEM. Apple doesn't make anything themselves. But they have hundreds of people working on display tech. Whoever made those screens for them (NEC or Toshiba maybe?) does not manufacture them for anyone else.
new 5k imac has something like 500 nit 10bit screen. good luck finding that as a standalone.
anyway, seen it when I visited a graphics designer friend of mine last month. way out of my budget.
Landon Johnson
>There isn't a single LG display that matches iMac 27" resolution, color reporuction and nits rating.
LG isn't in the high-end visual arts professional display market.
There are monitors from NEC (MultiSync PA and SpectraView) and Dell (UltraSharp w/ PremierColor) that far surpasses anything Apple has produced (including better brightness, better color accuracy, actual 14-bit internal color processing, and 99% DCI-P3 coverage).
Michael Morales
>The displays are the same as any mid-range pc. so you have a 5120x2880 IGZO panel?
Andrew Bennett
Of course, both NEC and Dell uses LG AH-IPS panels for their high-end displays aimed at graphic design and video editing market.

Apple objectively makes the best hardware and software, and with the best hardware comes the best displays.

The iMac is for big ballers only. All these itty bitty ballers in this thread are just butthurt cause they can't afford Apple products with their monthly autism bucks.
Benjamin Roberts
What do you have against Kevin Parnell?
Benjamin Cooper
>iMac display was extremely crisp and aesthetic >why is this
It is because you have homosexual tendencies. They are designed by a specific demographic, for a specific demographic. Once you start using one for long periods, Macs are extremely unaesthetic. The borders are disgustingly huge. The grey scheme stands out and is very distracting when you are trying to focus, in both terms of hardware and software. The space grey MBP is slightly better, but seriously fuck that touchbar. The super glare screens are HORRID. Not only would I not be able to sit in front of one all day, I would need to cover it because just walking by it when it is off would be incredibly distracting. Fuck that stand, too.

I just got a 2015 15" macbook pro and the display is very nice, there's definitely better stuff out there but as a nice throw money at the salesman and not have to worry about shit kind of deal I really like it.

I use a 5K iMac at work and a 4K Lenovo laptop at home and I actually prefer the font rendering on my laptop. I feel ClearType renders HiDPI fonts a little sharper (likely due to subpixel rendering that I believe macOS does not do) than on macOS. But the 5K screen is pretty nice, I agree. Probably their best yet.
If you're looking for a quality HiDPI screen, check out the high-end Dell or HP displays. They make some pretty nice 4K and 5K models.
Jacob Martinez
Microsoft's Surface Studio is better looking, actually.
