Uh Verizon FiOS has never had a "real" data cap.

There is a soft data cap at 10TB a month where they tell you that if you're hosting commercial content you need a business connection and if you continually go over 10TB a month they automatically upgrade you to a business line for like 3x the price.

Besides that though, there is no data cap, I regularly use 3-4TB a month.

That's reasonable enough I guess.

Yeah, they also will allow you to give them a reason as to why you need such data for personal use.

I've got a friend who was transferring like 20TB from a VPS in Europe to his house for backup, he just called verizon and told them for that month he'd 100% break the 10TB limit, but it wasn't commercial use, and it wouldn't be happening regularly as it was a one time thing. They were totally fine with it, didn't give him any shit or charge extra.

However, I've also seen a guy who used 70TB in a month and they automatically switched him to a business connection (he was hosting several fairly major websites from home, it was 100% commercial use)

overall, can't complain about my ISP. They're not perfect, but in the US anyway, they're pretty top.

What if somebody hosts a couple of non-commercial websites?

If they're using 10TB+ traffic then you should be realize that essentially IS a commercial operation, you're simply not capitalizing on it. Put up some ads to pay for your bandwidth costs, with that much traffic you're going to have a hard time convincing anyone it's purely personal use.

I'm considering moving to Origin in the UK. £30 monthly with a free setup for the next month. I called them up and asked what speeds I'd be looking at, and apparently a minimum of 66mbps dl (max of 80) and minimum 12mbps ul (max of 20). Currently I'm paying £25 a month for barely 15mbps dl with 1mbps ul. Has anyone here got experience with Origin? Are they trustworthy? I've never heard of them until today.

You can probably get satellite internet for less with higher speeds.

Unless you live in a few select areas, you're retarded for not switching to satellite if you truly have no other choice.

There are very few places in the US that can't get satellite internet.

>satellite
>It is satellite :^(
Our whole town literally lives in the forest.

bullshit, unless you're in rural west Virginia in the national radio quiet zone. I don't believe you.

Pretty sure satellite can go higher.

They have a 100/100 for $60 but I can saturate my current plan with Steam and torrents so it’s worthwhile to me.

My ISP only offers 50/50 or 1000/1000

And the cost difference is minmal so unless you're a single person who doesn't use the internet much, it basically forces you to get 1000/1000. Can't really complain though.

200mbps down/35mbps up

My internet provider, Optimum online doesn't have a data cap either. In June, due to a combination of downloading TBs from Mega (right before they patched the unlimited bandwidth bypass), torrenting, and uploading TBs of data to my unlimited google drive account I used over 11TB of data (pic related).

I wasn't even throttled at all. I was waiting for the throttle and it never happened.

If you guys are worried about data caps, move to the northeast. I think most northeastern (non-dial-up/satellite) ISPs don't cap data at all. Comcast doesn't even have data caps in most northeastern states (including my state NJ)

That's kinda low if you take into account that at gigabit speeds you should be able to move 632 terabytes a month.

Sure, but for residential use, 10TB is going to be the top 0.001% of customers anyway. And since it's a soft data cap, you're not punished for breaking it once or even twice as long as it's not a regular occurrence.
