CPUs: No i5 unless discounted >G4560 - poverty-tier builds >R3 1200 - Budget builds (R3 1300x - Good stop-gap between the 1500x and the 1200, only get a 1400 if you absolutely need multithreading >R5 1500x - Good but up to 1600 if you can >R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage; 1600x if you want higher stock clocks >R7/Used Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/VM/mixed use; Not for just gaming
GPUs: Coin miners have driven price up and stock down, waiting to buy a GPU might be wiser >Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games >GTX 1050(Ti) - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games, RX560 beaten by both >RX570 - 1080p@60~hz maxed, running most maxed older games at 100~Hz >RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@80hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; RX580 better in newer games >GTX 1070 - 1080p@130hz /1440p@60hz at high >GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p >GTX 1080Ti - 1440p@144hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games >Vega soon.
RAM: >Check your Mobo QVL before buying any RAM >Ryzen CPUs benefits a lot from high speed RAM
General: ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS! Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor. The Ryzen lineup comes with surprisingly good stock coolers. consider using them over any
I've noticed stores have GPUs in stock now, just for inflated prices.
Is mining dying off a bit, and can we expect prices/stock to normalise soon?
Benjamin Ortiz
who is this semen demon?

so, thanks to the nice guys of /pcbg/ and the wiki and I finally did it, I built my own pc, I first wanted to thank everyone that helped me everything's fine, no fuck-ups (minor nor major), and I'm pleasantly surprised of the result only one thing: I have an SSD and an HDD mounted, I installed the os on the SSD and everything was a-ok until I noticed that the HDD won't show up from the file explorer, I checked both in the bios and in the devices settings of windows and the hard-disk seems to be there and functioning but I can't still get to use it is there something I need to do to 'activate' it? thanks in advance for the (further) help
didn't know they made a TG version of the Mini C boys. worth the extra ~$25?
Blake Perry
Is the SATA data cable connected to the motherboard? if so, just open up disk management and format the HDD, then name it
Dominic Campbell
who the fuck is that trap?
Chase Lee
and when you name it, name it "Definitely not porn"
Jeremiah Murphy
I've only ever used stock CPU coolers, but it looks like Ryzens CPUs don't come with one. Which CPU cooler would you guys recommend?
Thomas Powell
Is the 1400 worth it over the 1200 if I want to watch movies/have a browser open on another monitor while casually gaming or emulating older games? 1600 is out of my price range
Sebastian Carter
thanks user, easier than I thought, HDD up and running sorry, I already named it 'HDD', I'm a simple man
Cameron Hall

Levi Edwards
what? I bought a Ryzen CPU (1600) last month and it came with its own cooler
Isaac Myers
Which cpu? A lot of them do, and they're good coolers.
Robert Smith
I LOVE ROSE! PLEASE COME BACK!
David Moore
the x series dont come with coolers
Elijah Baker
Oh, really? My 1600X didn't come with one.
I'm just looking for something cheap that'll do the job. Or should you not skimp out on CPU coolers?
Robert James
>315mm max GPU
reeeeeeeee
Ryder Barnes
what makes u think its a boy
Justin Roberts
>the x series dont come with coolers ok, didn't know that
>check RosePlaysGames channel >last video three years ago

i found out cause mine came in and when i was gtonna start building i read that it didnt

i'm improving my old pc: athlon II x3 455 sapphire hd 5570 msi 740gm-p25
got a second hand phenom x6 1090t, don't have a better gpu atm.
is it ok if i use the phenom with the other old components?
Liam Jenkins
>ok, didn't know that Some of them do. The Ryzen 3 1200, Ryzen 3 1300X, and Ryzen 5 1400 all come with the Wraith Stealth cooler. The Ryzen 5 1500X, Ryzen 5 1600, and Ryzen 7 1700 all come with the Wraith Spire Cooler. The 1700's has an RGB ring exclusive to it. The Ryzen 5 1600X, Ryzen 7 1700X, and Ryzen 7 1800X don't come with coolers. youtube.com/watch?v=y2ekQXYEbbs
Jacob Gomez
If the chipset is the same yeah...
But you already know what we're gonna say. Get the R5 1600. Is the next Phenom. And will probably be as future proof as you feel your old athlon has been.
Dominic Hughes
Does Superbiiz have ridiculous shipping costs or something?
Gabriel Carter
Is this OK & up to date? pcpartpicker.com/guide/wMgXsY/modest-gaming-build Need in a hurry a new pc, mostly for video edit and 3d render, but as far as i know the specs for a gaming pc should be very similar.
Matthew Smith
Man this case looks so clean. I'd totally get it if it didn't only support 2x 3.5" HDD's - Would be a lot better if it had more slots.
Sebastian Rodriguez
Thanks user, this is my old rig in my mom's house, which i visit twice a month and i'm not planning on upgrading the mobo.
Thing is, i'm afraid that using the 1090t along with the hd 5570 will bottleneck so hard that keep using my x3 455 would be a better option.
Asher Wilson
Looks Good. But you need more RAM. 16 GB is recommended minimum for video editing+ rendering.
Also, I personally recommend(and own) the R7 1700. It's worth every penny.
Nathaniel Barnes
I'd fuck the girl (male)
Daniel Myers
>Is mining dying off a bit, and can we expect prices/stock to normalise soon? I wouldn't bet on it. Though apparently Vega is supposed to have great mining performance, which means mining becomes less profitable with Polaris, so that should bring the prices on mid-range cards closer to normal, at least.
Oliver Ortiz
guys there's still a fuckhuge bundle of cables coming from the psu that I don't need and I don't know what the fuck to do with or even how to manage them without making a mess before closing the case pls halp, teach me the magic ways of cable management because I'm really lost
Xavier Lopez
>the x series dont come with coolers Well, the 1600x, 1700x and 1800x don't. The 1500x and 1300x do have stock coolers.
Jayden Diaz
Looks pretty solid a few things to note:
If you're looking to stick with 8gb, be sure to get a 2x4gb for dual channel it's about a 10-15% performance increase for RAM (increases RAM bandwidth capabilities)
Or do what said and upgrade to 16gb with 2x 8gb sticks.
Shell out a little bit more and for you 67$ you can get a 2tb Seagate Barracuda - faster read write speeds in comparison to the Hitachi - but the price for 2tb on the one you've chosen is still really good.
Caleb Rogers
Thanks! What about the GPU, do you think it's alright? or should I wait for the amd GPUs to be back in stock
Gavin Parker
Does anyone know of any bracket/enclosure that will house two 2.5" drives, preferably covering both? It would hopefully look like a single 3.5" that houses two 2.5" drives. The drive cage in my case can only hold one 2.5" drive and two 3.5" drives, but I have two 2.5" drives they're both WD blues and I'd prefer them to not be seen as the blue doesn't match the a e s t h e t i c of my setup.
Zachary Jackson
Anyone have case recommendations that meets most/all of the following criteria?
-Mid tower, preferable no longer than ~20" length; height irrelevant -Very easy cleaning - lots of dust filters that are easily removable. Ability to pull out bottom and/or PSU dust filter from the side or the front is a big plus. -Tempered glass side panel - not necessary, but a nice plus. -Noise dampening material where possible -Hinged side panel - this sounds like a convenient feature but I could be dissuaded from it. But even if it's not hinged, easy access is a plus
I've looked at a number of cases but all are lacking in some way. The Define C with Tempered Glass looks really good but only 315mm for GPU is unfortunate.
Carbide 600C Inverse would be good if not for the flimsy plastic panel.
The Enthoo Evolv ATX could be nice, but I'm skeptical of having tempered glass side panels on both sides. The Luxe would be good but it's a full tower and bigger than I'd like. P400S could be an option here as well.
Benjamin Ortiz
I have a RX570, but that is for gaming porpuses. For video rebdering and such, Nvidia GPUs are recommended because of CUDA . That GPU is fine. If you can get the 6gb that would be better, but little dofference
AMD has Open CL, but CUDA is apparently more effective. So stick to that.
Ayden Barnes
So, what, should i just give up on getting an AMD GPU. Though at the rate things are going it feels like the only GPU available for my next build will be a 1050ti or 460.
Maybe i'll drop getting a free sync monitor and go for a regular one, since the g-sync premium is retarded.
Lucas Martin
Nevermind, I found what I was looking for.
R8 my build, m8s. I'll post pictures and update price when I get get new case fans (need two more) and clean up my cabling.
Total paid includes the extra shipping I paid to get my case on the same day as the rest of my components. The WD blues were pulled from an old external and old laptop that I don't use anymore.
Lucas Scott
>hnnnnghhh >m-my threads, they're ripping
Tyler Gonzalez
Curious to hear your justification for buying 2 shit drives
Aiden Clark
Can I avoid the botnet with this build + libreboot + gentoo?
Dominic Moore
If you could read, you'd see that those drives were pulled from an old external and an old laptop that I don't use anymore.
Nice trips though.
Liam Moore
cut them off or get a modular psu
Isaac Jenkins
If you were planning on getting one soon, probably. Though Nvidia prices are pretty inflated as well.
Oliver Phillips
if you're worried about psu cables, first and foremost you should get a modular or semi modular psu.
but as you probably don't have one, the best you can do is fold up your unused cables and zip tie them.
Colton Cook
Thanks. Please mark them as purchased next time for those just dropping in.
Eli Martin
I'm trying to decide between getting the G4560 or the Ryzen 3. I'm leaning towards the G4560 since I'm poverty tier, but the Ryzen 3 is only 60 more dollars. I want to game mainly, but I also will be using it for my computer science work.
>Double the cost of g4560 for 5% performance increase
Jordan Green
if you can ACTUALLY get a 4560 for $56 sure, go for that. Everywhere I'm seeing, the chip is closer to $80 though. The r3 will do better if you overclock it a little, and the stock cooler is good enough for like 3.8ghz, maaaaybe 3.9. but at $56 get the pentium.
Zachary Lee
okay. I keep hearing that the ryzen would perform better on other tasks outside of games but I wasn't sure if it was worth it. and the upgrade path
Mason Barnes
Yeah I wasn't considering it at $80, but It dropped in price at a microcenter near me
Samuel Howard
Wanted:
Router that * is supported by LEDE * has 6 external antennas, 3 for 2.4 Ghz and 3 for 5 GHz
Austin Sullivan
Ryzen 3 will even beat i5's at non-gaming tasks, and the upgrade path makes it totally worth it
Ryan Rogers
Well, you can pretty much get g4560 + a cheap MOBO for the price of an R3(assuming it actually goes for $60), so upgrade path isn't necessarily worth considering at that point.
Adrian Murphy
Dang okay. I'll probably go with that then
Lucas Jenkins
>tfw bought 32gb ram for 100 bucks and cpu for 40.
Charles Brown
True. Maybe I'll just get the g4560 and then upgrade to a better mobo and cpu later on.
Austin Scott
Are 21:9 monitors worth it or just a meme?
Kayden Peterson
Let's add a general rule to the OP: Never purchase anything on release.
Just make sure you grab a decent B350 motherboard.
Chase Long
Ultrashort
Connor Young
New rule: ALWAYS purchase AMD on release
Michael Morris
Thanks, that video helped me decide. Totally worth it to get the r3 in my case
Jonathan Bell
>Used 2500k + Asus P8P67/Z68 Deluxe

Well, there are no video cards in Soviet Russia.
Cameron Nelson
Never buy version one (1) of anything, except in some rare cases new architechture (Sandy Bridge), but never on new die (SB was second Intel arch on 32nm).
Jose Murphy
pls help
Landon Evans
>PCe version of 9800 GT >Not fake
Hunter Wood
So why is the 7700k not mentioned?
Jayden Anderson
Lil. GF9800 was PCIE by default.
Ryder Baker
Well, if i were you I'd save up for the 1600. You sound like you could make good use of it. And can ve seen as a long term investment. Save up a couple bucks and get something that'll last you a while user.
Otherwise no. The 1200 is where the bang/buck is at.
Josiah Price
Isn't Rocket League a bit of an outlier? Seems like they're not supporting Ryzen at all, other games that made patches for it saw huge performance increases and they're just not doing anything.
Jacob Richardson
If your son has requested a new "processor" from a company called "AMD", this is genuine cause for alarm. AMD is a third-world based company who make inferior, "knock-off" copies of American processor chips. They use child labor extensively in their third world sweatshops, and they deliberately disable the security features that American processor makers, such as Intel, use to prevent hacking. AMD chips are never sold in stores, and you will most likely be told that you have to order them from internet sites. Do not buy this chip! This is one request that you must refuse your son, if you are to have any hope of raising him well.
Christian Gonzalez
Because of buying CPU just for delid it is not a smart move.
Ian Butler
pcpartpicker.com/list/Hz4jr7 I've been using this for the past 3 years, only upgraded to the GTX 1060a year ago, had a GTX 760 before that.
Daniel Sanchez
Like really. It's obviously a girl.
Cameron James
even the 1400 is stretching the budget a little bit but I wasn't sure if the extra threads would help if I was multitasking. I'd like the 1600 but it's a bit much for me. My alternative was to wait for Zen2 or whatever in 2020 and get a 6 or 8 core CPU then when I presumably have more money to work with.
Wyatt King
Looking for some build advice:
>country Germany
>budget 500€, but I'd rather only spend 400 (so equivalent to 500-600$)
>goal Linux gaming machine. I want to play previous gen games like Fallout NV, GTAIV, Skyrim with 30-60 fps on a not very large 60Hz monitor. No nVidia Graphics pls.
Should be upgradeable without replacing everything soon.
Carson Ross
do you have any questions? How are we supposed to respond to this? >"Hey guys, I have a computer."
Noah Smith
a-anyone? ;_;
Dylan Lewis
My router is like 15m away. And I get a 25Mbps speed. Should I got Cat5e, cat6/a or cat7/a??
Gavin Gonzalez
Ryzen 5 1600 B350 board of your liking 8gb ram (or more depending on your gpu choice) RX 460 or a used 290/390 or 470 if you find one
I bought a motospeed inflictor ck104 and bought my own keycaps and all of a sudden after like 2 months the D key stops working. Fo r example. I could be holding down D and it will stop for like 1 whole second periodically. So I could be typing a message and half of my sentence will have no D's in it. Anyone got any ideas in how to fix? I checked my keys and they were clean and there is a tiny bit of plastic that shouldn't be affecting it all.
/mkg/ is no help
Cooper Ramirez
Thanks for the advice, but that's a 600€ build.
Aiden Wilson
I guess that's what you get for the cheapest mks. You could try to replace that switch, although it would propably be hard to find an identical one since it's not cherry or gateron. What I would suggest, is to take a switch from a key that you don't use that much, or maybe even don't use at all (like scroll lock, or pause) and swap them in place with the D switch. Of course, assuming that it's a problem with the switch itself.
Robert Gomez
do they make locked drive cages like this that you can replace your normal internal drive cage with?
Gavin Hill
Is there a video guide on how to swap it? Is it easy?
Jeremiah Jackson
It's literally basic soldering, you'll easily find some tutorials on youtube on how to solder/desolder them. Any soldering iron will be ok.
