What the fuck do you need 16 cores for

what the fuck do you need 16 cores for

name just ONE thing

DAW's benefit from more threads for one thing

rendering stuff in blender quickly

intel corelet detected

How else am I gonna run all my threadsafe haskell code?

PHP-FPM/Postgres/Nginx?

>muh compiling meme

sigh

none of you are video editors or professionals who need 16 threads

even video professionals at pixar don't need 16 threads, they rent server farms

Compiling gentoo.

what do those server farms run?

Xeon or IBM.

he said one thing moron!

The servers only have one core

>IBM

good meme, my friend

>muh gaymin only needs 4 coars meme

>IBM servers
>bad

this 24 core beast says hello

not even AMD can compete with this

t.corelet

Is that a Persian rug?

>need
>need
>need

This is computers we're talking about, this HEDT chip is for people who WANT their optional for life toy to work how they want while gaming. There is no 'need' in modern products, only what people WANT.

it really glues the room together, huh

Question

I've been using Adobe premiere to render videos for my work.
My 2600k doesn't even go beyond 60% usage
My gtx1080 is doing all the work

I always hear about how editing needs cores
Why do I need a 8+ core CPU when Cuda does it for me?

IDEs aren't a meme.
also
>renting computers when you can own

the more cores actually helps when you are rendering big 4k videos

I want one just as a FUCK YOU to Jewtel

Software rendering looks better at less bitrate

nothing but if I can afford it why not

>even video professionals at pixar don't need 16 threads, they rent server farms
For their actual renders, yeah. And how many threads do you think those server farms have in total ?

>What the fuck do I need a mechanical keyboard for
>What the fuck do I need a 144hz screen for
>What the fuck do I need 5 2TB HDDs for
>What the fuck do I need 2 512GB SSDs for
>What the fuck do I need good heatsinks for
>What the fuck do I need a big case for
>What the fuck do I need a second and third screen for
>What the fuck do I need a comfortable office chair for

Shit user, you're right! I'll sell all my stuff and by an Intel Atom powered Netbook and a plastic outdoor chair and I'll finally have just what I need!
Fucking commie.

It's funny because at any big studio they will have powerful PCs that can make temporal preview renders and handle the 3D programs well.
They obviously don't do the final renders on their workdesk machines, but to think they don't have powerful machines to handle the 3D program and to make temporal and preview renders is asinine.

Couldn't you use a GPU for that

Synthesizing a 32 core CPU.

Running my pngwolf fork on very large images.

You can use it as an e-peen extension device.

Why can't we decapitate all corelets?

Your mother's pussy is so cavernous that it takes at least 16 cores to even process.

Path tracing. Also parallel building of acceleration structures for real time gpu path tracing so you can have dynamic scenes.

/thread

I run two dual socket 2011's with 4 e5-2670 in total. This is used for rendering so yeah i would love a single cpu with this combined performance

Dude who use to work for Technicolor and AlphaDogs here (intern really but still had to work with networking). Server farms FUCKING SUCKKKKKKKKK, especially if theyre off site, cause one thing that goes down or one file we cant physically grab its gonna put everything back, though most of that is the fault of the editor him/herself really, also its somewhat rare but still happens. On site server racks are nice cause everything is in house, and everyone is pulling from one LAN and its easy to follow and see where everything is going, plus small local network life. 16 threads could be nice for rendering but all that is really done before it shipped out to QC and either returned or continued on the process.

>he's too poor to afford redundant fibre links

watch anime

Anyone tried out the TY Hi-Z AWK-314P?

I need a comfy bed earbuds, it's looking like theese or the ve monks, but I've got a feeling that the monks are too low end heavy.

Rendering as much hentai as possible

doing stuff inside 4 parallel virtual machines

Youd be fucking surprised by the sheer laziness of some people, went in knowing basics, half way through the dude went somewhere and what he taught me was lazy crap and how not to check everything. Essentially, if a rack was having problems, say like a fan is stuck or something, turns the entire thing offline and fucks all 42 other dudes in the office when he could take some time to run through the shutdown process and reallocate the other racks for everyone else, and give everyone a heads up. Straight eth0 I/O, about 5TB of backup drives for the servers and tahts kinda it, no APC no dedicated firewall, basic routers, shit was wild.

shit wrong thread, can't delete post.

But also; 16 Cores for running VMs, and also if you're working with 3d modeling i.e. blender, it's good since you could leave half or 3/4 of your cores to render in a vm, and use the other cores to work on the next model whilst the other one renders, so that you don't just have dead time.

Server farms could be bought up, but typically you wouldn't use a server farm until final renders

It'll help a little when you install Gentoo.

>even video professionals at pixar don't need 16 threads, they rent server farms
They generally do that even for quick renders now.

And the server farms generally have many (CPU / GPU) cores 'cause you know, that's ultimately how you get bulk processing power cheap.

Speccy threads.

1600 porn videos at the same time

running cisco virt

>they rent server farms
well I don't want to rent server farms?

Encoding and rendering are the two things I'd use 16C/32T for.

The third universal answer however is; whatever the fuck I want you cum guzzling little bitch. It's not your money so what the fuck do you care?

How fast do you think I can compile a gentoo install if I use -j32?

Adobe Lightroom.

You need it for running multi-threaded tasks faster

>even video professionals at pixar don't need 16 threads, they rent server farms

The final production render happens on a farm.

But all the quick test renders have to be done locally because transferring gigabytes of textures takes too much time.

I've optimized my miner software to make use of all 32 threads to get the same output as (10) GTX 1070s.
I also animate hentai swfs in my free time and I get paid in patreon bucks.

This seems to be an admission that TR outperforms Intel and that you should buy intel because it performs less. When you can't win you can always "win at losing" right?

Everyone on the internet thinks they are video editors and need all this power.

Do you really need to pay $1000 or whatever it is just so you can save like 2 minutes editing your video. The amount of people that think they are running pixar in their basement is staggering.

The only consumer level person that I can possibly think that would actually need threadripper or similar is maybe a scientist or engineer where it could take days off a simulation.

Playing nice big computer games like mario

I want buy one cpu and use it next decade without upgrade.
Thats why.

rendering videos, I bought an 8 core ryzen cpu and I have to say that it was worth upgrading to from my i5 4670

I make mmd porn.
>falling for a bait thread

DON'T H8 GR8 B8 M8

>There are people that still render with CPU engines instead of GPU oriented ones that are 5 times faster

When i see people using Arnold instead of Redshift or Octane i want to snap a a bitch

Even 6 cores is enough for me to play games while rendering stuff.

I can use an Intel chip it's a sure fire way to get my things done

Don't most render engine require considerable CPU cycles to feed the GPU?

I am fairly sure that's true for Nvidia Iray at least.

what the fuck do you need 12 cylinders for?

name just ONE thing

I CAN DO A P99OOOOOOOOOOOOO9O9OO9O

bet frickin fuckin POST of my LIFE

>ryzen production line.jpg

encoding chinese cartoons.

Premiere actually uses your 1080? What sort of black magic did you do?

jokes on you. i download chinese cartoons bdmv and encode them because most bd rippers don't fix aliasing.

here's two

>What the fuck do you need a car with an engine for? Your horse and buggy works just fine!

Hows that .02 cents you made from Intel feel, op?

I agree

everyone should buy overpriced Intel two core shit because of your impeccable logic that no one needs a CPU to begin with in this era of cloud computing

you just need an ipad and a dildo up your ass because of how much of a faggot you are

You just need a friend.

i bet your wife lets you use her friends

No, but I'd like that very much.

FFMPEG.

ask her for some of her black boyfriends then

bought 4k meme camera
editing videos and x265 encoding is pain in the ass even with gouda

Establishing a sense of masculinity and self-worth when accelerating faster than other cars?

Is that what you like?

Same

They would sure do nicely for Steam In-Home Streaming at 4K with software encoding, you get better image quality that way but live encoding 4K is a bitch.

GamersNexus did a Blender render of their new intro animation. Using 4 gpus and an i9 iirc, it cut the render time from something like 26 hrs to about 11. There are real use cases for this stuff.

I'm going to take a second and speak from my own perspective. The only performance - heavy task I put my Pc through is gaming, or the occasional encode with Shotcut for a little YouTube video. I do more than fine with 4 cores.
I still enjoy talking about The HEDT segment, because it's an interesting topic. The hardware can be just as much of a hobby as the use case. For example, Rally car enthusiasts talk about high end rally cars while they drive around their WRX with a couple mods. Similarly, with I'm here talking about 16 core chips while using my 6600k. Of COURSE most of us here are just gamers wanking off about products we will never use. Doesn't mean that the discussion isn't worth having.

>most bd rippers don't fix aliasing
And how do you do that?

with this, I can have one conputer, acting as server, workstation and windows vm for games.

what the fuck do you need 2 cores for

name just ONE thing.

i have no interest in your boyfriends

Running 16 VMs going full blast strip mining the internet for rare pepes

Power users and professionals pretty much the market that has always been genuinely interested in HEDT.

Intel wants to keep up the "core count" game as well despite the thermal and yielding issues of their current massive 12+ core monolith chips.

Yes, the are professional video editors who can use that level of power and still want more. They aren't just processing/editing one video but several of them at once.

Time is money in their profession. $1,000+ investment in a platform that can easily cut their processing time by 10-25% is totally worth it.
