how often should ONE buy a smartphone?

how often? when it breaks or stops working completely.

iPhone: 4 years
Android: 6 months

good thread. this is why i come here. make more threads like this.

I had my android for 4 years, still works fine

I've had my Motorola G 2013 (3rd gen) for 4+ years now and it still is amazing. My next phone will likely be a Samsung Galaxy s8 or s9 depending on the price at swappa.

It just werks™

I have to manually update the phone and live with a bit of wear and tear, but since every phone manufacturer is clueless, so I haven't seen a reason to upgrade.

(((they))) have stopped removable batteries

so you now have to replace the phone when the battery dies in a year or 2

I update every 2 complete years.
I bought my current phone on Nov 25 2016, until Nov 25 2018 I'll get a new one.

still using my iPhone 4S
just ordered a new battery

2 years

Im still on last years iPhone haha xDD

Sent from my iPhone

iPhone: 2 months
Android: Infinity

how long does your battery last on average?
also do people still fix the home button on the thing?

the 5 lags like fuck on iOS 10 even with all the effects turned off
as long as you use it as just a phone you'll probably get extra mileage off it for another 5 or so years

I usually keep my phones 4 years, which is about the time it starts to die from the inside (battery, overheating, and other internal problems)
I'll probably change my HTC One M7 later this year.
Nobody fucking googles "Android slow"
They just google "*name_of_device* slow"

Yeah I've had it on 9.3.5 for a while now, but the constraints of the OS are really getting to me

until there's no more iOS updates, unless it's a 4S. Downgrade that shit to iOS 6 and it'll forever be amazing

3-4 years for either android or iPhone. Unless you buy planned obsolescence phones (80%+ android devices) in which case 1-2 years.
Not to say iPhones are better than those chinkphones.

downgrade it to iOS 6 with the fistmedaddy.ipsw utility

rly maeks u think...

And now with labels.

Literally impossible for me atm lol. haven't come up with a jailbroken version of 9.3.5 yet

does that work for the 4s too?

isn't this only for the 4s? I have the 5

>downgrade it to the point where no apps work at all

lmao@urlyfe

we are a few hours away from one, though
twitter.com/tihmstar/status/893848714997006336

it's made for the 4S. You need a jailbreak though.

on the iPhone 5, you just dualboot iOS 6 or whatever once jailbroken. My iPad 2 has iOS 6 as host and iOS 7 as the side OS

Don't you also have to take into account ownership of both phones? In general, most people googling -phone name- slow are going to be consumers who possess the phones

oh cool. Fingers crossed that they'll release the jailbreak

Still posting from an iPhone 5 with latest OS. Still very smooth animations.

thank the fucking heavens

Same phone but i didnt ordered a battery since it got off

I think the problem is not Apple vs Android programmed obsolescence.
It's that most of people don't even know what's their phone, it's either an iPhone or a "Samsung", "LG" or "Wiko"
80% of Android owners wish they were richer, just to gen an iPhone and have access to blue bubbles and those new Snapchat filters.

Batteries on all of my familiy's phones are still good. My iPhone 4s is 6 years old are the battery rating is still good.

too bad the 4S on iOS 6 is literally the perfect phone

How? What the fuck do you have installed on your phone. Works pretty good with me.

>thinking you need iMessage outside of group chats
>thinking you can't use android in an entirely apple group message

>lagPhone

it's my brother's phone
I don't know what he has on it but it's slower than my 5 on 9.3.5

Tell that to the kids of the working class parents who can't afford a 700€ phone.

>thinking I was shilling for apple
raely makes u think

Nah mate I wasn't thinking or implying anything, it's just that 80% are tech iletrates and just want an iPhone to have an iPhone.

There has not been any reason to upgrade since the snapdragon 808/810 in the nexus 5 generation of phones.

Wait for something compelling to your use case

yeah that's how i was before Sup Forums
