Hurd is a low priority project. There's already Linux for use in the GNU system. Besides, technically Hurd is superior to Linux, simply because it's a newer design (micro) than the mono-design Linux is based on, so it's still interesting develop further.

busybox is made for small embedded systems, no sane person would unironically use it on the desktop. the bsd utils are (no offense bsd guys) unoptimized and slow compared to gnu utils, because they're kept simple, also they don't share the same functionality (program options which work on gnu systems can fail or simply aren't available on bsd systems), same goes with busybox; tools like cat even have no options at all, awk, grep and sed lack the usual gnu features

GNU utils can be installed on BSD, they have the same name as BSD utils, but they provide additional functionality, so if you want it - you have to install them. Those additional options simplify a workflow, but you have to jump through some hoops to ensure your commands are "portable". Many people don't bother with it, so if you want to use their software, you have no choice but to switch to GNU.
