PC sales from 2009 to 2010 grew 13.5%, in 2011 that growth was 0.5%, in 2012 0%, in 2013 -10% and it keeps dropping

but PC is still dying. a laptop is the best of both worlds.

it has unironically killed the PC for normies

The PC didn't kill the mainframe, it just made it pointless for most people. The iPad did the same thing, it didn't kill the PC, it just made it pointless for most people. A tablet is good enough for normies.

> only coubtibg prebuilts
Pretty sure the custom builder market is growing.

But is that because more are building their own buying indivdual components compared to buying store prebuilds?

a laptop is a pc. Just saying. It doesn't have to be a desktop one.

Basically has. The iPad Pro is good enough for most people to use as their PC aside from some niche use cases.

Tablet is dying right now though.

Applefags still believe it

The prebuilt market is wayyyyy smaller than you guys think it is.

Thta's largely a combination of market saturation and lack of a need to upgrade. Even though smartphones have something ridiculous like 95% of the market in the US, they still sell because they've convinced people that they need to upgrade every two years and phones have become a status symbol more than anything. Tablets don't hold that same power, everyone bought tablets and now they don't need another. iPad Pro being 120Hz is the first upgrade-worthy innovation in a forever.

True, but both those anons are correct; more and more people are building their own PCs.
jonpeddie.com/press-releases/details/pc-gaming-hardware-market-minting-billions

My company and every company I've seen, use terminals and a windows server. So basically a mainframe

>Comprised of pre and DIY built gaming computers, upgrades, and accessories such as input devices and audio/communication systems

So after including prebuilts, headsets, and monitors?

Normies aren't building their own computers. The custom build segment is growing but I'm not finding any numbers on units

Even though consumer PC parts are selling, and enthusiasts are still buying more expensive parts, I doubt that makes up for the OEM prebuilts crash. Do people realize how popular computers were in the 90's and 2000's? And now it's been replaced by mobile almost entirely for normies. Yes, enthusiasts, streamers, content creators and gamers are keeping the desktop market alive, but it isn't nearly as profitable as it used to be. Also, building your own PC was a thing back in the day as well.

They were close though.

The truth is that smartphones killed desktops. 95% of normies get their fill of the internet through their phone.

Tablets sort of got isolated to the child pacifier role. Nobody actually uses them.

I use my iPad daily. It's super comfy for watching YouTube and anime from my Plex server, and for web browsing in bed.

Did Chromebooks kill PC or not yet?

Enterprises love the iPad. It's much cheaper than decent laptops and easier to secure. Also vastly more convenient for people who fly often.

t. uses a company-provided iPad Pro

Anybody else fucking hate phones and tablets?
I don't even like my business laptop. I wish I could only use desktop computers.

Phones were a mistake.

The newest iPad is faster than a lot of i7 laptops, it will eventually kill the PC and even the Mac.

Some people travel and aren't NEET virgin basement dwellers

Sure

Post specs

>Phones were a mistake.

Phones at least serve some purpose. Social media was the real mistake.

Yeah that's why I was given a business laptop. I hate travelling and having to use my laptop.

Right now I am using it, all I wish is that I was at home on my comfy desk with my nice mech keyboard and screen.

99% of regular people don't need anything more than a tablet with a keyboard attachment. Apple are kinda Jewish for not allowing their smart keyboard covers to be used on anything but the iPad Pros but at least the hardware in them is so good that they'll last at least 4-5 years at this point

What did phones improves in the past years besides performance?

I'm sure enterprise enjoys them, but I've found them to be useless for personal productivity. And not just iPads but tablets in general. Their form factor is a total hindrance, they're too big to use single-handedly while the keyboard whether hardware or software is still total shit to preserve the form factor. Processing power and application compatibility are limited and again the shoddy input devices and UI design create an even wider chasm.

They're convenient for quick checks and retaining data, but otherwise I feel like their use is incredibly limited outside of children's toys, ebooks, and porn.

Are ipads even still a fad these days? I rarely see people using them. Then again, I don't live in a hipster cuck city like San Francisco or New York.

hardware manufacturers will tell you that business is booming because no matter what, people will always want that sweet new part.

unit sales are down because there is a unique wombo combo of high demand, tight supply, mobile competition and fucking crypto scum.

this will normalize next year as factories are ramping up to meet demand.

>Not carrying a 60% Bluetooth mech

And where the fuck do I put it, on top of the laptop keyboard?

computerworld.com/article/2518213/apple-mac/netbooks--ha--ipads-will-replace-desktop-pcs.html

Yes?

Might actually work, guess it's time to finally buy a 60%, all my mechs are full size.

> 4GB DDR4 RAM
Meh for Windows/MacOS, but god tier on iOS's RAM management
> 6-core ARMv8 A10 Fusion chip
Literally a low wattage monster, no fan required, outperforms many dual core i7's
> 10 hour battery life
More than double than today's laptop standard

I know iOS is still immature, but it just keep getting more and more features, in a few years it will merge with MacOS and basically be a complete OS. ARM is the future.

lmao

>ARM is the future
of mobile and maybe tablet. That's all.

>Processing power and application compatibility are limited
It's not 2012 anymore you muppet, loads of professionals in music/photography/digital art etc are replacing their laptops with iPad Pros, apps like Affinity Photo, Procreate, Korg Gadget and so on are getting really close to desktop apps and are more than enough for the editing people need to do when they're away from a desktop.

Ipad / tablet stays at home for most people who own one; it's more convenient to pocket a phone on the go.

I have never seen family, friends, and acquaintances only use a tablet (or at least a phone) for casual use in the home setting in years. Laptops and PC's are no longer a fixture in the general population.

Also, many service and retail businesses now use point-of-sale systems that use a tablet.

Instead smartphones will kill it.

I have only** seen family, friends...

this

>smartphones
Literally how?

People stop using them. If you have any younger(teens) normie siblings just look at them and ask about their friends. Pretty much only gamers gets/uses PCs, others maybe have a laptop but mainly use their phones. At least that's my experience.

Because the average person doesn't need a computer and only browse the internet/watch Netflix/go on social media?

remember when it did.

Everyone I knew with even a passing interest in computers/internet had at least a laptop in the house before tablets and smart phones.

Geekbench mutli-core scores

Meme synthetic benchmark
Post relevant application results instead

It's annoying to brown the internet without a mouse and keyboard on a small screen or even watch vidya on it. Maybe because i grew up with a mouse and keyboard..

Ok, now fuse it with Asus, HP, Lenovo, Acer etc... and post the result.

sounds bullshit to me

>Dell
Literally who?

Yes in my house.

"hey Siri, I wanna watch The Dark Knight Rises on Netflix" is a lot faster than any keyboard and mouse

I got a chromebook pixel when it came out, and it was shit. Soundcard fried itself after one year. No sound out of the speakers OR headphone jack.

>talking to your computer
What a nerd.

is that woz?

>The prebuilt market is wayyyyy smaller than you guys think it is.
You are either underage, a NEET, or a retard oblivious to businesses, when you don't even know that all the developed and developing countries on this planet have amortization laws forcing firms to constantly cycle computers, most of which are cheap prebuilts.

Double click and it's done :^)

Fidget spinners have outsold all of apples products OMG applefags BTFO how will they recover?

That's a legitimate question.

How about Apple?

>Remember when they said Ipad was going to kill PC?
But it did. PC sales are down. WAY DOWN.

It's sad but true.

Did they ever say iOS will kill Android run devices?

in 2017 most kids don't even know how to use a PC properly

HOMOPHOBES BTFO!!!

Hell, a computer from a decade ago is enough to just browse online, like most normies do.

...

Phones are still too small to do anything for a long duration. The ads too, I'm sure many use apps rather than Firefox with an ad blocker.

>Phones are still too small to do anything for a long duration
Tell that to my brother who pretty much only use his phone for browsing.

>Tablet revolution starts
Wow, who needs a notebook, tablet is light
>After a few years of field experience
Uhh.. tablet is slow and performance is limited.
Android and iOS are dumb OSes with limited customization.
Maybe I should go for those tablet+notebook combos
>After experimenting with tablet+notebook combo
Ugggh, they are heavy. What I need is a ultra-light notebook with touchscreen.

>2017
All notebooks are light with SSD drives
Tablets are still expensive productivity gimmicks whose objective is to sell apps in apps store.

cuz literally no upgrades in cpus for a decade

>SSD drives

But where am I supposed to store all my anime cartoons?

When will PCs become mobile?

>I feel like their use is incredibly limited outside of children's toys, ebooks, and porn.
>porn
So, you're saying they're incredible useful?

>It's annoying to brown the internet
heh. because.

False. Tablet sales are pretty shit. Actually they were only decent when they first got launched.

Normies use phones instead of PCs and just can't be bothered to get another computer.

binjo!

Even the lightest ultrabooks are heavier than a tablet, and a fuckton more expensive. The average person doesn't need a desktop OS for their day to day computing.

Tablets are worthless to type anything on and really only works for browsing and watching videos, might as well stick to your phone in that case.

Desktop + Ultrabook is the best combo.

I don't know on what planet you live on but here on planet Earth this thing called Bluetooth keyboards exist. A mobile device is only better in landscape mode for typing stuff and watching videos, everything else is better in portrait mode.

Why the fuck would someone spend $1000 on an ultrabook when they can buy a $330 iPad and a $20 Bluetooth keyboard when they have no use whatsoever for a desktop OS?

>gimped mobile OS
>"hallo, i am a professional typing on a Pro tablet, being productive"
>"i can even open some files on it"
>"it even runs photosop mobile lite, it completely replaces my old PC and labtob"
>"wait a bit, I first have to pair my keyboard with the tablet... Now it's a complet computar"

>when they have no use whatsoever for a desktop OS?

I sure hope no company has hired you to do any big boy profeshunal work on your big fancy ultrabook mom paid for when you have the reading comprehention of an 8 year old
