For stability Im sure Debian is great for servers but as a retarded ricer I fuck up my setup every now and then. I haven't noticed better stability as a desktop user and GNU likes to make everything take an extra step.
The NSA also gives some FOSS projects funding.
Its possible that they are adding backdoors but since the code can be audited and the backdoor found why take that risk?
