Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).

I have an x200 and want to upgrade the screen to the best available for this model/size.
What model number should I be searching for on ebay? I don't want to get scammed
Hunter Cooper
just made the jump and ordered a x200 for £90, just for a cheapo essay machine
is libreboot really worth faffing around with for load times?
Colton Bennett
It's not hard to do and there's no soldering involved if you buy an SOIC16 clip and already have an rpi or beaglebone. You only have to remove 4 screws I believe to get to where you need, it opens up easily. Luke on youtube has an x200 complete disassembly guide
Ryder Richardson
Also, once it's flashed and running initially, you shouldn't ever have to use a hardware flasher on it again. It's possible to flash internally once done.
Christian Scott
I'll check it out then, danke user-kun

Hi, I bought a dead T510i yesterday for like 20$ on a local flea market. It seems complete except RAM and HDD. Oh and it wont turn on. Is it worth reviving?
Chase King
Depends on what's wrong with it and how much money you'd have to spend to get it up and running again.
Thomas Harris
how hard would it be to libreboot an X200t? I always read it's the second-hardest one because the chip the bios is saved on is locked and you have to flash another chip to undo this lock. anybody here did it already to tell me a little about it?
nope, not worth it imo the normal X200 is easy to flash libreboot on and it's pretty cool having a completely free machine but you'd need a free wifi chip

OP can't remember the last time he saw a real girl in person. He's too used to watching his 2D anime waifus and traps (programmers).

Whenever I boot my x230 running Arch and use the brightness keys it always jumps to maximum brightness before working.
I've tried every combination of GRUB kernal paramters (acpi_backlight=vendor acpi_osi= is the only one that restores brightness and lets the keys work by default) and systemd services but I can't fix this or find anyone having this problem. Am I retarded or is this just broke?

Hi /tpg/, first time on this general. I'm going to study cs at uni (first year) and a friend of mine told me that a laptop is basically essential. I have a desktop for the little gaming I do so performance is not the main priority. Also for the budget I guess I'd like to spend less than €600. Value really makes me happy. I've read a bit of the guides linked on OP but, since I don't know shit about PCs in general, it was not really helpful. Given my position, could anyone please give me general advices to get myself into this world? I just need somewhere to start and I would also be interested what someone else in a similar situation has opted for.
Aaron Walker

I would personally get an X230 in your case, small and portable, it's corebootable, works fine under Windowns, hackintosh-compatible (in case for ExamSoft which I've heard sucks under Windowns), it has a great amount of ports including USB 3.0 iirc, great battery life, keyboard looks rather modern but can be switched out for the classic 7row X220 keyboard, alright iGPU and alright CPU (soldered onto mainboard, not upgradeable), snappy with 8GB RAM, you can have a HDD and a SSD (SATA and mSATA), very sturdy and so much more. You could obviously get an used MacBook Air which I would actually recommend personally because of ExamSoft and if you want to make friends. I personally love ThinkPads but in your case you should probably really get a MacBook.
Camden Carter
user said he'd have to spend less than $600. For less than $600 an X250 is entirely possible. It's more modern and up to date with a higher res screen.
Get an X250 (12") or T450 (14") if you can find one within your budget. If not, X230 or T430. STAY AWAY FROM X240 and T440!
Angel Gutierrez
When I started studying cs I knew a lot about programming but very little about pc parts. It's good to know about them but it's not essential.
Asher Sanders
CS is not about computers or hardware though

Have you tried using another distro on a LiveUSB and seeing if it works properly there? It may be that you have some random program incorrectly configured.

Honest opinion needed. I asked this in the wrong thread before. Should I get this i3 5th gen Macbook for $300 (owner says at least 3h battery capacity) or Thinkpad t430 i7 3rd gen vPRO 3520M 2.9 GHz 8GB ddr3 ram 1tb sshd (256ssd I guess) Intel HD 4000 for $350? (owner says tested but I'll have to ask about the battery) Both are hd resolution I guess. Turkey, so judge the price according to 3rd world standards.
Details: I want to run office programs, shitpost and maybe occasionally play LoL with my friends.
thanks.

T430 You can hackintosh it if you want :^)

hmm, not that I like MacOS. i already had a thinkpad x201 which I broke after two years, and now I just need a stable laptop that will do for another two years while I do master.

Actually my friends thought it was me in the first place. They even replied to one of those posts with maplestory pictures to show it was them. They asked me and I had no idea what they were talking about, then they gave me the fireden link. >question if you may be schizophrenic mate You know honestly, I already do. Long story short and moral of the story, make sure your doctor doesn't prescribe you shit that can give you dementia.
