Whats on the *?
Just don't let them in?

UK? Country is full botnet already

Just blacklist their servers or capture the packets and modify them to send slightly lower usage data.

Yes. If I don't let them in they may just cut my gas and electric off.

As if they would use my internet/router to do this. Touching their equipment is a criminal act.

Make sure to note down the values displayed on the meter at regular intervals.

Or set up a webcam to take an image daily.

Utilities will find a way to fuck up simple things.

You think they will wire their own network into each house? I doubt that, and if they use your network, you aren't touching any of their equipment.

I don't see how they can connect then. Maybe they send it back down their own powerlines? Or perhaps they use a local hotspot? They can't use my wifi that's for sure since I lock out based on MAC addresses.

'Smart meters use a secure national communication network (called the DCC) to automatically and wirelessly send your actual energy usage to your supplier. '

So they have their own mesh network?

smartdcc.co.uk/media/341298/15595_dcc_fact_sheet-coverage_v7.pdf

Definitely a botnet

What is cellular?

Yeah I just read the mesh radio shit. Probably leans on existing mobile phone networks to save cash. Anyhow it's a pain in the butt. I hate having ANYONE in my place. The electric meter is downstairs in the communal hallway but the gas meter is in my flat. Hopefully he won't need to go beyond my gas meter in the front portion of my flat. Also I read that installers are now acting on behalf of CrAPITA to spy on people who have TV's and make a note for TV licensing evader purposes, even if you only use it for prerecorded media playback (Yes paying for TV broadcast reception in the UK is a fucking totalitarian nightmare).

Oh and apparently they can tell if you are using a TV by the electricity fluctuations!

Tinfoil hat perhaps but I would not trust any of this shit to not be feasible.

OP you are a paranoid autist

Also obviously the smartmeters work by having an MI6 paki sneak in during the night and taking the reading

>come goy, get this new mobile plan
>ff
>we are changing/phasing out this plan this plan, you are free to pay more or pick another plan

why the fuck is this allowed is beyond me. We signed a contract, you are giving me free unlimited calls for .50 as long as I pay that price. Fuck this. Regards, gramps

When you live in Cuckistan you learn not to trust ANYTHING companies and government shove down your throat. Seriously. This country is a fucking dystopia. CCTV everywhere. Big brother attitude to everything you do (Extreme porn laws, porn ID's, hate speech bullshit, TV license thugs). Freedom is an illusion in bongland.

Oh no! Smart meters! Now the gas and electrical company can know how much electricity and gas you use.

>for free*

they will totally not dump the cost on the customers. I mean, why would they do that? They would totally not get away with charging for a solution no one asked for, right?

Pretty much a given. Energy charges have continually risen despite wholesale prices falling. Excuses like buying a year ahead, green taxes, building infrastructure and now smart meters are thrown about every year.

How do they difference electricity fluctuations between a TV or a Monitor

They can compare what is being broadcast to the fluctuations in usage to determine what you are watching. It creates certain patterns. It's all paranoid tinfoil stuff but it is feasible.

They communicate wirelessly to to a nearby receiver that they have set up, which again communicates to them over LTE
At least that's how they do it here. I'd never let anything like this into my network.
I'd let them try to connect it wirelessly though, my AP has a hidden SSID and I don't have DHCP, would be fun to watch.

Google "Rafter". It's the tuner they detect.

They can't yet force you to switch. Bastard Gas keep calling me, I tell them to jam it.

OP, resist this bullshit.

Energy caps, just like data caps, will be next.

Not quite but their plan is to switch off appliances when the grid is nearing capacity. Fridge freezers etc for 6-10 hours for example. Drones that sign up to this shit will receive some token discount.

Maybe they will consider upgrading their infrastructure by increasing grid capacity?

Yes, I'm sure the mostly foreign owned oligopoly will spend their money to meet our needs.

>they will totally not dump the cost on the customers. I mean, why would they do that? They would totally not get away with charging for a solution no one asked for, right?
This is a cost saving measure.
Meter reader was a real job. People would drive around and check meter readings. Now the meter spits out a tiny blurb of data by radio.

My electric meter is in my garage luckily, so they weren't able to get it. But they did get my gas meter. At least my company isn't forcing them.

I know that feel mate, we got the same in France and there is NOTHING I can do prevent them from installing it.

on the same note my train station now has face tracking and retina detection. mainly to power tvs that play ads

my electric meters on the side of my house and my gas meters past the council property line.

>Yes. If I don't let them in they may just cut my gas and electric off.

Can't speak to the UK, but if your account is currant, they can't cut you off, because you may need it for health reasons.

So what prevents people from leaving a jammer next to the reader and having free electricity?
