it's dead, jim

Got the Rift like a week ago. Shit's pretty cool.

Also, is there no good roller coaster game out? All I found were really short promotional rides or really old games that I can't get to run.

I've heard people suggest No Limits 2, but I've also heard it wasn't very good either. People just sort of abandoned roller coaster apps.

What do you think of me and my team's tavern simulator? You have to pour drinks for drunk dwarves and throw them out every once in a while. It's starting to feel pretty good.

youtu.be/N2XQmrqZV7s

Has potential. Just make sure you have actually fun gameplay that can last so people don't just label it as Job Simulator Tavern Edition.

That's too bad. The few glimpses of its potential I got were pretty good.

That's the plan senpai a lam, we'll add more of the customer service aspect. As in you throw stuff at your patrons to interact with them.

If I may, I think having something to encourage artistic flair would be good for your game. Like bartenders do in real life. Stuff like being able to pour from very high or do certain tricks.

Also having virtual hands instead of just the controller models would help.

The hands are being put in as we speak. We are thinking about stuff like bottle and glass flips getting you more gold - or maybe that someone wants you to throw a can to them at their table?

bumpa

Double bump

I remember a tutorial vid somewhere on how an app can render any DirectX game in stereoscopic, which you can then use in a VR desktop. So any games you can't use Vorpx on, you can still play on a massive 3D screen.

Can't find it again though. Anybody know about it?

you should wait until gen2 comes out (1-2 years from now) before trying to make this general work. I've used the current tech and it is not passable, only diehard fanboys enjoy it for more than a week.

Well I disagree and so do a few other anons I've talked to, that's why we started the general.

There's no arguing that things can be improved on but when a game have good controller support, it's great stuff right now.

Make yourself a roller coaster in mine craft. Not even kidding, of all the games I've played mine craft has by far the best sense of movement, I can't even play it stood up I keep trying to rebalanced myself for motion.

Waifu posting kills the thread

By Minecraft do you mean the official version or the mod?

I disagree. I've been really enjoying my time in VR, and there's so many more games coming out now

I agree, there's really not many games yet and costs are high, but if you can afford it it's worth it to peak into the future.

Lone echo is fantastic.

I'm having a pretty annoying problem with the Rift recently. The sound on the rift will just stop working mid game. Only way to fix it is to disable and enable the Rift Audio under "Playback Devices".

Weird. Is this on steamVR? Because there's a setting to automatically switch playback and recording devices while it's on. If that's not a cause, it might be a solution.

It definitely was on SteamVR, but I can't remember if it exclusively happened there.
It doesn't sound like that should fix it, since it does work for a time, but I guess I'll give it a try.

Should I buy a rift for porn?

I'd use it for games and other shit, of course, but I just want some VR porn NOW.

I am completely aware that the optimal move is to wait a couple years for the "2nd gen" of VR, but I'm a single guy with no kids and a healthy amount of disposable income, so I'm nowhere near pinching pennies.

Should I opt for a Vive instead? I have the room space and shit.

VR will take off if they create a budget model for porn use

That's what mobile VR is

It's mostly a matter of equipment. Most VR live porn is 180 stereoscopic because it only requires two cameras with fisheye lenses.

Way back there was a company trying to do the 'hologram' trick with kinects or other depth cameras.
youtube.com/watch?v=CQZQeCumzcA
The projection was kinda flaky but when those sort of cameras get more common place, we could have animation live action girls you can look around.

I found out the name of the app for rendering. TriDef 3D. Going to try it out.

youtube.com/watch?v=80-PImIWq7Q

Even as a Rift user, I'm pretty hype for all the stuff the Vive is getting.

If money is literally no object, get the vive. They are adding knuckle controllers, more accessories, already have wireless options, and their room scale is good to go immediatly.

This. I have a rift cuz it was so cheap, but I fully intend to purchase a Vive when the new knucks come out, and hopefully when the price is slashed.

It had automatic support for Starcraft 2 and besides some fiddling with windowed mode and Big Screen's SBS, it looks pretty good. FPS is fuck though.

7 Days To Die runs okay but I think it's a post-3D effect. Lots of weird artefacts.

checking between my monitor and the headset, I think the lag is coming from the VR desktop. Big Screen as a free beta but I don't know if other apps would fare better.

Is it normal to feel like you're still wearing the Rift for awhile after you've taken it off?

Yes that's pretty normal.

In all honesty, I think consumer AR/MR is going to blow up sooner than consumer VR is. Pokemon GO proved that a game that motivates people to go outside and interact with each other has enormous market potential, and if it had had any actual content we'd all still be playing it.

PSVR or rift?

In the longrun, they'll essentially be the same thing. either we get hololens style displays that can totally block out the real world for VR or a VR headset with enough low-latency cameras to accurately display the real world for AR.

The latter seems the most possible, given how the Vive already has a camera showing the player the real world when they get too close to the roomscale walls.

>still waiting on a non gaymer version of VR so I can watch hentai/anime/movies from the comfort of my own bed instead of having a modular space ship on my head that weighs a ton and comes with autismo nunchucks.

Are you dumb?

Oh shirt that is one ugly as link, my bad, just Google vr phone case, obviously you need a smartphone but those aren't hard to come by.

VR is a meme
It's worse than 3d TV

Suggestion: Add X:Rebirth VR to the list of upcoming titles in the pasta.
Rebirth was balls, but it might actually be very fun when it's updated and makes use of VR.

Also Rick and Morty Virtual Rickality & Job Simulator
Subnautica to upcoming

I just got dk2, it's okay particularly how fast it feels when moving your head around. However the thing I dislike is you can see every individual pixel and it is distracting. Does CV1 solve this issue? Or does HTC Vive?

I'll keep those in mind, I just need to find some time to work on all the pastebins.

CV1 feels like the world has a texture to it, but it's not a real barrier to immersion.

The main limitation on consumer VR is the lack of detail in far off objects.

Anyone managed to get desktop games working on vive (or oculus)?

I know there are a few tools out there, but they were apparently quite difficult to actually get working.

And one of them costs a fair bit

Can you torrent rift / vive games?

You can torrent vive games on steam, but i havent seen any rift/oculus store cracks.

The main limitation is SHIT GAMES.
The only good ones are Elite and ETS.

>tfw bought a vive and only 2 games through steam

if it wasnt for IGG, the electric jew pricing on these shovelware and early access titles would've ruined VR for me. really tempted to start trying rift games with revive soon though, like another user said i cant find shit from their library.

Received my Rift yesterday night, plugged it in today. Damn it's fun. It's a gimmick as a whole, but I really think that it's one of the most innovative, and definitely one of the most interesting thing the computer industry has going forward.

Seriously, the little gaming I did with it was either "meh" (Trackmania Turbo before I found the actual VR mode, or the VR levels that are meh as fuck), or fucking great (Trackmania Turbo when the good levels happen, Race the Sun).

I really hope it's not only the discovery effect, and that it'll keep being good.

I also tried to watch a video, and not jokingly, I really think this is the fucking future for video watching. As soon as we get 2 or 4 times the current resolution, this will be a massively superior experience to watching on a wide-screen TV.

Neither the Vive or Rift have a good enough resolution to be truly immersive. The screen door effect and lack of detail is too distracting.

I got a Vive two weeks ago. The thing is cool as fuck. Got a bunch of games for it. Other than porn, are there any other cool things I can do with it?

the Vive

Elite isn't good.

Robo Recall is great

You can create content in Oculus Medium or Google Blocks

I hope Lone Echo gets mod support. There's good stuff there for zero-g gun fights, horror games, etc. That said, even Robo Recall's mod support seems limited to weapons and controls.

Feels like a waste. All that potential limited to the game's main campaign and multiplayer.

There's any way to play this?

Played a bunch of stuff I had, so I guess I'll talk to prevent this thread from dying because I like it.

>Trackmania Turbo
The shitty thing is that only the "VR Experience" part is usable in VR. The normal game just isn't interesting to play otherwise. But the VR experience part is really a step up above the normal game. Anything in third person is kind of meh, but when it goes first person, or the view before launching a track actually is nice.
That said, it's like 2 hours long to do all 4 environments, and while Stadium is cool, Lagoon was meh, and I doubt the two other environments are any better than Stadium. Overall, not worth it only for the VR part.

>Race the Sun
Actually pretty fun. But at the end of the day it's the same game you already played or not on your screen, except in my opinion you get a better feel. Really not worth it for the VR part.

>Project Cars
I'd need to be good at that to review it properly. But honestly, it's a massive step-up to playing the game on a single screen, the in-car view is definitely usable, and the cars are well-modeled.

>Robo Recall
Honestly the one I actually wanted to talk about. It's super good. The aiming is super intuitive, and the gameplay mechanics are really rather well fleshed-out for what could be a shitty game which would get carried by its theme and handling. Honestly absurdly fun, and for what it's worth, it's the only game which I don't think I could enjoy as much playing without VR.

I feel like people who say this haven't even tried it... I'm playing Alien Isolation in VR and it looks amazing outside of the text on the monitors. The godrays that constantly remind you that there is a lens in front of you eyes is what actually kills the immersion.

Honestly, I think this is not completely right. If anything is slightly boring or you focus not on the experience itself, it does break apart easily, you clearly see the limits of the VR headset. In Robo Recall for instance, it's very clear the low resolution actually somewhat hurts the game, since faraway enemies are basically slight blur rather than a distinct shape, and someone with normal eyesight should clearly be able to see it.
That being said, immersion definitely happens. Any time something jumps at me, I definitely recoil physically, while I obviously know that it's not real. But still, seeing kinda is believing.

I think the resolution doesn't bother me much because my eyesight is just slightly shit to the point where it looks almost exactly like rift's resolution, and I barely wear my glasses since I don't really use them except to drive.

I thought they released the source code for Robo Recall though?

Find a MMD model they're usually rigged well and there's shitloads of good ones out there, here's a couple basic guides to follow

You don't have to use blender but it works better and you can do a lot more before uploading the final product in unity to VRchat. Also the latest MMD4Mecanim unity plugin doesn't work so you have to find a old version if you do it that way.

honest question when do you think a sizeable portion of the population (0.1-1%) will begin spending their daily lives sucked in VR?

5 years? 10? 15? 50?

So I've been playing Elite Dangerous in VR. First of all it's a pretty cool game minus having VR support, that just makes it even better. I've been using an Xbox controller but decided it was time to get a HOTAS. I wanted to play some other flight sims in VR so I figured why not get a set. I got the Thrustmaster T16000m and holy fucking shit. It's about the coolest experience I've ever had in a game. It felt like a true simulator. The only thing missing was haptics in the stick and chair. It was amazing. I've dreamed of playing games like this. It's so fucking cool.

1% in 10 years
90% in 20 years

Holy shit guys I just played a free experience called Aircar, it felt like I was in Bladerunner flying around. It was god damn incredible. You have to check it out, it's on the Oculus store.

does it have a comfy comfort rating? im in a comfy mood

i nearly threw up

play echo arena, funnest rift game atm

Any reason to get a PSVR instead of a rift/vive?

Unless you have a PS4 and really want to play it's exclusive titles, not really. I tried it at a store and while the screen is good, the visible light tracking sucks.

Looks like a more polished Flairtender, which I enjoyed for the hour or so it took to unlock everything.

looking forward to trying out knuckles and TPCast too bad there isn't much interesting content out there. I only hook up my Vive once in a blue moon to mess around with new H3VR content, bigscreen, and that VTOL game I got only recently.
There is nothing I feel compelled to play for hours on end yet, some of the non gaming related content like 3D videos such as the short airforce demonstration, photogrammery, and google earth were interesting to try out in VR.

Can't wait for that panzerwehr1949 ww2 mech game that is in development. Closest I could get to steel battalion in VR and mech warrior.
>youtube.com/watch?v=na530jGHOtI
After playing that VTOL game, controlling instrumentation with motion controllers only worked better than I had expected.
Craving more games with an interactive cockpit.

Well now you know that flying ships in VR can make you sick. But now the question is if you have the DNA in you to be able to train yourself not to get sick.

Just tried Dirt Rally. It's a puk-a-tron. Shit's just too intense, and you don't get enough physical feedback IMO to not get sick.

Honestly though, a 4 minute rally special is not long enough to puke, only to get a bit sick, and it's quite the experience to try it once.
