Plex updates Privacy Policy

Is this the beginning of the end?

>Plex will continue to collect usage statistics, such as device type, duration, bit rate, media format, resolution, and media type (music, photos, videos, etc.).
>We will no longer allow the option to opt out of this statistics collection.

Who gives a fuck

Just move to serviio

>Sup Forums - Crying about muh Privacy

Serviio FTW!. Seriously I've been using it for several years now without fail. Streams to all my devices (2 wdtv lives, 2 android devices, and 65 samsung smart TV)

Use Kodi you fucking cuck

b-but botnet desu

>impying you are interestingq

Plex has always been a botnet

plex has always been a joke. if you have a server on a different subnet than the player on your local network it had to go out to the internet and back in.

fucking terrible programming

Who actually subnets their home network and puts the media server on a different one from his connected devices though? 0.0002% of users?

Just fucking move it

i do, because flat networks are for fucking retards.

stay in school kid

>Plex will continue to collect usage statistics, such as device type, duration, bit rate, media format, resolution, and media type (music, photos, videos, etc.).
...who cares? this information doesn't identify me as an individual, they'll probably use it to fix crashes and bugs. not everyone is out to get you, OP.

t. nsa

>needlessly sets up 50 vlans
>"i do it not fro function but cuz im cool"
>"I'm not the retard"

Yeah, fuck off kid.

>Plex has always been a botnet
It's just that now they're admitting it.

That's intentional because they want to tie your login to their databases.

Plenty of people complained, they basically said won'tfix

>needlessly
I bet you shit with the door open don't you

What you say makes no sense. Plex doesn't go through another server. It contacts your server directly.

Maybe it's throttling your connection because you're not on the same network as the server. That's exactly what the settings say it will do. If you want local speeds then you have to Benin the local network

Or you can make your non-local speed the max and let plex throttle it for users that can't handle that speed.

Sounds like you're the problem not plex.

I segregate my network according to my needs.

i.e, putting plex on the same subnet as my TV, not fucking by itself like a retard would.

neck yourself you brainlet perma-virgin. Go learn how to actually create a useful network.

>he networks his TV

I was about to download this on my PS4 so I can watch Chinese Cartoons from my laptop on my TV.
Should I still get it?

>He doesn't connect his TV to the network

Too scared of the botnet? lmao

>not securing your network in the year of our lord.

nigga like connect an HDMI cable

But I want my laptop next to me. Why would I want to get up?

where do you even have your fucking files?

On my laptop..

then fucking connect it you lazy fuck

Why would I want to do that?
>can wear headphones
>don't need to get up to change flies
>can shitpost while watching stuff

Or stick a fire stick USB in the tv and stream to it.

>don't need to get up to change flies
you don't need to in the first place dumbo
>can wear headphones
you can make the laptop output the audio
>can shitpost while watching stuff
what are you? an ADHD ridden retard? pay attention to your fucking TV

You made literally 1 valid point.

I knew when they forced you to login to your local network plex server some shady shit was going on

Why use Plex when Emby + Kodi exist?

disable updates and block their services in a host file. shit works even when you don't even have a connection

plex > kodi if your server is off site.

Why would wm4, lead developer of mpv which is open source, willingly work on and implement botnet?

My router's badass firewall will black hole your little phone calls home

>trusting proprietary software
I thought I was browsing Sup Forums

What's wrong with letting them know what type of file you're using?
What the fuck is there to possibly hide if you're watching an .avi or .mkv

retards who use plex

>duration, bit rate, media format, resolution, and media type

enough to find out what you are watching

Fair enough.
What are some alternatives to this program?

from the top of my head, emby, kodi, plain samba.

Literally who?

>Again, we will not collect any information that identifies libraries, files, file names, and/or the specific content stored on your privately hosted Plex Media Servers. The only exception to this is when, and only to the extent, you use Plex with third-party services such as Sonos, Alexa, webhooks, and Last.fm.

Read the rest of it you fucking idiot

If only the Emby developers weren't fucking retarded, this wouldn't even be a problem

apache2. all I need is 10mbps down and I can stream minimally compressed HD video without issue over the internet.

This desu
