So who's getting a Vive now that the price dropped? The Rift sale is ending this week but HTC is dropping the price of the Vive. I'm a little annoyed, I just got mine two weeks ago. Oh well, whatever. The thing is still rad though.

Sup Forums isn't too poor for VR are they?

I've had my Rift for a bit over a week now? Still enjoying it. I'll probably hit the 2nd gen vive, when it includes the knucks.

The Knuckles look awesome. Do we have any word on a release date?

Of course Sup Forums is too poor.

>The thing is still rad though.
seems pretty gay.

no games
no content
600 bucks

lel Shitty implementations of VR is now a status symbol.

it's not vr until you can smell it
what you got is two screens taped to your head, not vr
prove me wrong

You play Robo Recall and tell me that is not pure smile inducing fun. Hell Google Earth is pretty amazing in VR. I'm starting to develop things myself and I think Elite is going to kick ass when I grab myself a HOTAS setup.

for true VR experience you will need electrodes inside your brain...

I just got a Thrustmaster T16000m specifically to play Elite Dangerous with my Vive and holy fucking shit, it is literally the best vidya experience I've ever played. I love that your pilot model's animations match what you do with stick. It's awesome, I can't wait until we get more VR flight sims. Will Ace Combat 7 have VR content?

>still 700 euro at webshop
>pc has 2500k and rx 480
>run mostly linux
>vega is shit and hard to get without blower fan

Ace Combat looks fucking gorgeous and I have hopes for it, but I haven't heard anything about VR for it.

I'm excited for it regardless of VR. I just think it's one of those games that would greatly benefit from it. I can tell you from the dog fighting I've done in Elite, being able to move my head in the cockpit makes a huge difference.

Whew, sold mine like 2 weeks ago lol

I honestly would have kept it longer but I saw it coming. HTC couldn't keep that price point with the Rift sale.

Can we all admit the VR is for porn and porn only.

Gen 2 isnt until 2019?

The knuckles are the only reason I am hodling off atm. I want them as a package deal, not something I have to spend $100-200 extra for later.

Elite dangerous is unironicly worth the money if you enjoy Sim games and play it like one rather than an action adventure mmo or whatever it was originally marketed as.

It's about 50:50. However the higher price sets wouldn't exist at all if it was just for porn. If that were true only Cardboard or GearVR type devices would exist.

Yeah, I think I will get a vive, but first I need a vega 64, and I refuse to do that until the 3rd party cards come out.

The Knuckles aren't being made by HTC so I doubt it'll ever be a packaged deal with the Vive especially since Valve is kinda pushing SteamVR Tracking 2.0 which the Vive doesn't support. There's the option that HTC could sell the headset standalone but with the way they've been treating the Vive I doubt they'll do it. They're constantly trying to price gouge where ever they can.

I mostly trade and mine shit. I've tried some combat stuff but it's crazy and I don't want to lose my ship.

Robo recall is okay. I still like VR but all the games are pretty shit right now. I wish like nintendo or some more clever quality developers made vr games

One of the only reasons I haven't hung myself from a pillar of my own misery is VR, and it sucks.

I like Onward. That's pretty fun if you have a competent team.

Got one a year ago. Barely use it because muh linux and the windows 7 vm doesnt support vr desktop.

vr videos are a fucking pain, almost never work right, and will still require being sorta cross eyed.
windwaker vr is broken as fuck, good luck with the busted ass telescope, cant even get off the fist island. Dont even think of using the vive controllers
oot, dont even think of using the vive controllers
most games are 10 minutes long, in depth as a rugrats game on the n64, and priced the same as a AAA title.

With that being said, the shit you actually do do on it is fucking breath taking.

Would my r9 290 run this or would I need to upgrade to rx 580 or vega 64?

I already got my Vive when it launched.

Are you me? It went like this

>Ok time to kill myself
>BUT I could end up in pure nothingness and never live my fantasy life
>Ok time to wait for VR to get good and give me a small hope of ever living that life

And that's why I'm still shitposting on Sup Forums instead of being dead.

if you don't use it, you should hook a fellow user up.

You're missing out. Combat is the only fun thing in that game, and even then.

I also recommend Arena Commander which you can get for free by purchasing the 30 dollar starter kit from RSI. It has leaderboards and multiple modes and maps like co-op survival against waves of pirates and aliens and shit, plus they added in the persistant universe with planetary landings and random missions with PvP arenas, plus they added the FPS combat module and shit, so I mean, there's definitely things to occupy your time.

real gamers avoid this shit like a plague

Oh I've done combat. One of the coolest things was coming out of super cruise in the middle of a massive space battle between System Security and a bunch of gangsters. It was crazy.

us gaymers, amirite?

Didn't realize star citizen supported vr. I may have to give that a go. I played some arena combat about a year ago and it was fun for a few days, tho obviously there were balance issues and op strats.

But for a game that is 10 years from launch ot was ok.

Go back to youtube comments

There's a vr ready test on steam.

iirc, the 290 is a rebranded 7950, right? I did the test with my 7950 and didn't even pass for low quality VR.

Also I mean, not to push it or anything but that fear you describe, for me that's what makes it exciting. But to offset it a bit, I've played Eve Online for years, so I know the whole "never fly what you can't afford to replace" mentality and I stick to it when I do combat. I mostly just fly class-A viper mkIII around, and grinding out the dosh to replace that is only maybe a few hours of sitting at a hostile mining site and camping raiders, or a few rotations of trading rares

Will have to try that. But yeah, it is old. I may cave and get one of those mobo/cpu/vega bundles.

No ,you vr cucks

Yeah I kinda compare it to EVE in the sense the economy is a big deal in the game and that you really should be prepared to pay to replace your ship if you go into combat. I really like the game. It's pretty fun, I haven't done too much though, I only have like 7 hours of play time so far and most of that was just figuring out how to fly, twice. Once using an Xbox controller and then with the HOTAS. I'll say using a HOTAS makes the flying so much fucking easier.

I'd get it just for porn and virtual desktop/watching YouTube videos in a digital theater, but idk if 600 bucks is worth that. Is there anything more utilitarian I can do with it, and can I easily use it for games that aren't a few gimmicks on steam?

I'm using the X55 rhino myself. I kinda wish I had saved my money though and just gotten a twin-stick setup. Glad you're having fun with it, it's kind of a dead game sadly since the launch killed it, but they've added so much content it sucks nobody will see it. If it had everything it has right now at launch it would've blown people away.

So what's the best way to watch 360 youtube videos with my Vive? Also, I'd assume this method would work for porn as well. Virtual Desktop? Google came up with a bunch of different options, what do you guys like best?

Pavlov is where the funs at if you want a good fps experience. Just fun as heck, reminds me of CSS.

It does look like CSS. Seems fun. I just ordered longer cables to get my headset into a better space for room space games like that so I may give it a shot.

>what you got is two screens taped to your head, not vr

>virtual reality
>The computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional image or environment that can be interacted with in a seemingly real or physical way by a person using special electronic equipment, such as a helmet with a screen inside or gloves fitted with sensors.
>special electronic equipment, such as a helmet with a screen inside

You can use a few video players for 360 degree videos, but honestly videos are shit. Videos aren't VR and they just have an awful experience.

If you want porn in VR, watch actual VR porn, not shitty 360 degree videos. Look up Waifu Sex Simulator.

u need to be really enthusiastic to do so, the novelty wore off for me after 5 or so months because the hardware is just too weak, quality VR needs to be wireless and have a much better display

star citizen?

it doesnt?

Neither MS Flight Simulator or X-Plane support VR headsets. And that was my only reasoning for buying one.

>tfw sold my vive for $500 a few weeks ago

Call me back when they have VR that isn't aimed at XXXTREME GAMING

This honestly.

Wait until 2019 when they're wireless, 4K, 120hz, and foveated rendering.

I'd buy a VR headset to play a pinball simulator, and maybe some racing and flying games. Problem is that on top of the gorillion dollars needed to get the thing in the first place, you still need NASA's supercomputer to run it, which in the current fucked up market situation is just outright impossible to get at a reasonable price.

VR will make the jump when a truly midrange PC (aka consoles) will be able to run it.

PSVR?

Its a gimmick like 3D monitors and 3D glasses. If someone offered me a nvidia 3d glasses kit I would just laugh in their face. Same deal here. This is a fucking joke.

>those trips
Checked.

>PSVR
Still not *that* good enough

> the 290 is a rebranded 7950, right?
wow are you fucking stupid

...

No decent GPU's to drive it.
Nvidia are overpriced fucktards and AMD followed their lead.

Wait for Vive 2 and Navi (superscript TM)

I mean the virtual gun range seems pretty neat. I wouldn't buy vr if that's the only game though. But yes, porn and shooting shit.

anything higher than a 970 is enough

most VR games arent demanding at all

My 980 runs everything without issue. It's fine with the current high end cards.

You're wrong.

>Super hot
>Subnautica
>Doom
>Fallout 4

There's some worthwhile titles. But my current problem with my Vive is that the room where my PC is has 6ft tall ceilings and some titles you really do need 6.5 feet

That fucking sucks. We have 9ft ceilings and Im still smacking the ceiling fan light covers when Im not paying attention.
I almost put the controller though the glass side panel of my computer a couple times.
Im just in the habit of moving very slow in vr now lol.

Ill give those games a try.

Your living the fantasy, idiot.

Omg I remember making gta iv 3d and having glasses

Holy shit

I had some for a few months. 2 things are stopping me from buying and that's the resolution is just not quite good enough and there is pretty much no content apart from little demos.

just admit you're too much of a pussy.

> Fallout 4
Are you referring to the PSVR thing that will come out?

Or is there a way to get it working with the current version?

oh wait, that was skyrim, my bad

> wireless
Hahaha wireless headphones have heavy latency. I can't imagine how bad a vr headset will be

tpcast has no noticeable latency

any other model to be announced should follow their lead

tpcast doesn't have latency on any of the test models that people have been using. I assume the retail release will work just as well.

I just bought a rift its pretty sweet.

Just got a rift, what video player do you Sup Forumsuys recommend?

Maybe it has better vive support or I set up something incorrectly, but when I tried it with a rift the movement controls on the touch were complete shit. I'd take teleporting over what they have any day of the week.

I used DeoVR, it seems ok.

If you're into space sim type games check out Elite Dangerous. It's awesome and fully VR. I ended up getting a HOTAS to play it and I'm addicted now. I've only played without VR once and it was only to learn the control scheme on the HOTAS.

>HOTAS.
That seems like a fun game, i'll look into it.

nigger

Elite dangerous is fucking euphoric in VR, that user is right on. Also check out Eve Valkyrie.

>Will Ace Combat 7 have VR content?

AC7 will have a VR sidemission mode for PSVR, but it appears to be PSVR exclusive.

Then the original me had a pretty shitty fantasy. Perhaps he was a masochist.

Also wondering this, are there good programs for using VR as just a cheaper way of having more desktop space?

Was considering getting a 43" 4k TV mostly for productivity first (no scaling at that size, open VM OS's in 1080p windows). Also to run games in 1080p windowed mode (dont have the GPU for 4k games).

But if a Vive allows good productivity...I know it has a front camera for the keyboard when needed.

>Was considering getting a 43" 4k TV

Why would you do that when Korean monitors exist?

Found one for under $400

Which Korean monitors are 35-45" and on amazon and under $400?

>on amazon

Bruh they're all on Ebay.

>productivity
Unless you're making 3d models you're not going to be more productive, reading text is still a problem and might still be a bit of a problem for gen 2 as well.

Even then they all seem over $400 and difficult to filter/search for.

>Eve Valkyrie.
I got that game for free because I bought my rift from best buy

that would be AR

Its a small project that lacks the polish of games like ED, but I enjoyed VTOLVR far more with interactive instrumentation that uses nothing but the motion controllers, it works surprisingly well.
>youtube.com/watch?v=zoDvxHAZ5yk

I got ED back when it was on sale and tried it with a cheap Tflight hotas wasn't my cup of tea.
Tried warthunder as well, it was interesting to see the instrumentation inside the cockpit but both warthunder and ED didn't look right scale wise.
Can't wait for more interactive cockpit flight and mech sims to start popping up.

> People are actually buying Rifts from cucked Facebook
> People are actually installing their Facebook botnet software

disregard Vive is super useful for productivity. There's a lot of utility software out already, and the virtual desktop screen space is massive. Watching movies is phenomenal in VR, and multitasking is on a whole different level since you have an infinite virtual space to work with.

With vive you actually have a virtual bedroom where you can move windows around. Next year they are releasing the new lighthouse 2.0 system that lets you map physical objects into your VR space and manipulate them.

>With vive you actually have a virtual bedroom where you can move windows around. Next year they are releasing the new lighthouse 2.0 system that lets you map physical objects into your VR space and manipulate them.

Gimmick.
Totally useless.

I can comfortably use a window manager with unlimited tags without going blind and getting face cancer and neck pain.
