Oh man, you mean in the work place you need actual experience with programs and utilities that actually work?

The only people who use FOSS compliant programs are those whose time is worthless (NEETs), and don't actually need the program to complete the job. They're simply using it because it's FOSS, nothing more.

Welcome to the real world, OP.

Nobody cares about the free software philosophy. Just suck it up.

>10 years of experience with [SOFTWARE]
>[SOFTWARE] was released in 2015

>learnt Linux to have a shot at IT job
>get employed
>Windows everywhere
I've been using Windows for 15 years and Linux for 6 months and I feel like my Windows knowledge is actually worse. A shame I can't put my Linux skills to use now.

>work at research institution
>everyone is a bearded tech hippie
>everything is FOSS-based

>Forced to use proprietary software for uni

Stupid frogposter
They only want time travelers

dumb frog bully

>tfw that is my dream job

I wish I could find a place to work where I wouldn't have to deal with Microsoft garbage.

>work at one of the big 4 in tech
>use no software I can't check out the source code for, and run an Ubuntu image on my laptop
>Haven't touched windows in years aside from playing overwatch at home

>proprietary software
>actually works
no

Because using windows is like casting voodoo "spells" and chanting christian incantations. Only God knows what's going to happen.

>become a linux wiz-kid during uni
>start job
>all we use is Visual Studio and other software in the Microsoft environment
>it's piss easy, and I don't get to use my linux skills

wow epic thread lmao

>Company uses Oracle and Atlassian cloud products everything
>Forced to work with Java EE and other meme EE tech
Going home is the best part of my day. Alteast JIRA isn't a piece of shit.

write FOSS in your freetime
You will like it so much that you will become a neet all by yourself

Tell us more user-sama? Like to know how to achieve this greatness before 25(+2yrs).

Boutta be a Linux Sysadmin for my uni. Come at me boys

Find contacts in academia, use them to find job. I have such contacts and one of them wants to start a company to replace the last few remaining proprietary (very niche) programs with open source ones (only open source, not libre, only libre release after a few years for old versions). I'm going to help out and earn some morally correct bux.
