Why does Russia have a culture of despotism? Why did it take them so long to free the serfs compared to everyone else? Why did they use their people like spent tissue during WWII?
Is there something different about the average Russian compared to other people? Is it nature or nurture/culture? How do we save their society?
Robert Bell
They've killed the shit out of their elites so now they're like 99.99% neo-serfs and one Putin

Because they were easily manipulated due to a lack of education. also because they were poor probably. #OnlyRichLivesMatter

Poor, warmongering, genocidal, obnoxiously agressive, uncivilized, soulless nation suffering eternal identity crisis(first they stole the Kievan Rus' history, then they defeated and subjugated another important Rus' cultural centre - Novgorod, claimed to be the "Third Rome", then tried to establish themselves as a proper European state copying the Western art and developements, then realizing how multicultural and diverse is their state they came up with """"USSR"""" abandoning their former flag and culture, after it's pathetic fall they are again lost and clueless so they sperg out). Collectivist minded and servile society with no regard to human life. They don't care about their personal wealth, freedom etc as long as Mother Russia and the Tsar is fine. They lack empathy, incapable of establishing a friendly relations on equal terms. Apart from Moscow and St Petersburg and some oil regions Russia is extremely poor and undeveloped - as the Russians are incapable of producing anything sophisticated almost the entire wealth of the country comes from it's natural resources. Except for the art and architecture directly derived either from the Greeks(all the Orthodox architecture they have horribly bastardized, icons) or Westerners(these fancy palaces in St. Petersburg) they barely have contributed to the culture at all. Considering a very large population their scientific contribution is utterly underwhelming, vastly inferior compared to the Western Slavs. Entire society is subjected to brainwashing propaganda blaming the Americans for everything, making them praise their Tsar Putin and support all the vicious acts of violence and terror. They can't even into geopolitics - Russia still pretends it's 19th century and the best way for the state to succeed is to be egoistic, xenophobic, expansive, imperialistic, overly-nationalistic and authoritarian. Russia is the true cancer of humanity and I sincerely hope it breaks apart as soon as possible.

Culturally and politically they are like 200 years or more behind everyone else. They had a shot with the Revolution, but then the Commies took over and then set them back 70 years.
For now, the only way for Russia to improve is to wait for the entire Soviet class to die off. That's 20+ years. Then a few more generations past that.
Everyone in Russia gets their news from State TV. They're all obedient serfs since that's all they get.
Imagine: what if you ONLY ever watched Fox news? What if Fox news was the only source of info? Of course your views would be identical.

Well, it was always more brutal and less civilized than in western europe here. We basically LOST chances to peacefully improve country. Communists eliminated and made emigrate fragile and thin layer of russian europeans, smart, educated and... russians.
> Why did they use their people like spent tissue during WWII? Because asian communists agreed to fight for interests of other countries. > they use their people like spent tissue It's not true, military losses are high but not THAT high. Civil casualities are huge though
> How do we save their society? West supported shoot of parliament in 1993. It was the end of democracy here. I'm not saying it would be like switzerland if Yeltsin haven't shoot it, but... you just can't do that because you hate your opponents and disagree with them. It won't be "su 2.0 " or other shit they say "we did it to stop commie beasts". More and more people define 1993 as a most important year in newest russian history.
So you will never help us. West already turned many countries to hell.

>Why did they use their people like tissues Because they could have ended far worse if they didn't. Germany had more soldiers than the Soviets at the start of the war, so the huge numbers you see of Soviet soldiers are just workers/peasants with guns
Camden Collins
>Germany had more soldiers than the Soviets at the start of the war Germany had a slight advantage in the number of troops at the front during Barbarossa, but the Soviets had three times as many tanks and aircraft.
Aaron Brooks
Comes from Moscow having to assert it's dominance over other major cities.
Jacob Green
Yes, shitty tanks and aircraft, the Soviets were really unprepared for war compared to Germany
Nathaniel Moore
Soviets had a thousand t-34, which the German high command at the time considered to be the finest tank in the world, vastly superior to anything the Germans had. The Germans only had a bit over 3000 tanks total for Barbarossa, most of which were light Panzer I or Panzer II, with early Panzer IV variants being the heaviest they had. A Panzer IV of the earlier variants would have been ridiculously outmatched against any t-34 variant, not to meantion the Soviets 500 heavy KV-1 tanks.
The Soviets were prepared for war and armed to the teeth. They just thought they'd get to be the attacking side and were positioned accordingly, which led to large contingents being surrounded by Germans in the week or two that it took for Stalin to stop trying to drink the problems away and take charge.
