Post your custom ThinkPad BIOS logo lads.
pic not mine but i want ideas, also the 30kb limit is pretty restricting.

Which laptops >=2012 with socketted CPU take a second battery?

T420/T430 both can take a 6 cell slice.

rojopill me on x220 vs x230
Joshua Myers
x220 has the superior keyboard.
Blake Wood
I have an x220 and I've had it since 2011, been thinking about upgrading to the dell xps 13
Jaxon Perez

Christian Garcia
X220 has a better keyboard and an infinitely better trackpoint, but you can transplant those onto an X230 for the massive iGPU improvement and allegedly better battery life.
Dylan Edwards
Why? The X220 is still more than enough for all the tasks you need a laptop for.
Jeremiah Cruz
It all comes down to a few things -Keyboard: The X220 is the last generation with the old style keys. Starting with the X230, they started using chicklet keyboards. Personal preference -Price: X220s are usually a little cheaper. -Performance: Ivy Bridge (X230) is better than Sandy Bridge (X220) -Customization: The X230 requires a BIOS and EC flash to modify anything. X220 only requires it for some things.

i want to violently mame some of these ebay sellers
>seller refurbished >in good condition
screen is fucking cracked and the laptop has an actual fucking hole in it
What european websites other than allegro should I use? All thinkpads on ebay are in the us and it's not worth the shipping and customs
Sebastian James
Hello, I am looking to buy a new laptop for university, and figured out that a thinkpad might be the best option. I am pretty sure that a a T-series thinkpad suits my needs. Budget:>400 Location: Belgium
Should I use buy one from the US or go for one in Europe?
Thanks in advance.
Leo Smith
Whatever is cheapest. Germany seems to have an abundance of Thinkpads.
T420 or X220 with 9 cell battery + 6 cell battery slice is always comfy as fuck.
Joseph Evans
with a xx20 you can use use 3rd party batteries
with an unlocked bios xx20 you can use dual band AC card disable Turbo Boost so I instantly get -10 C during cpu loads switch alpm mode from slumber to partial if you got a ssd disable intel ME features modify active trip points for the fan disable bios event log set ram to 1866mhz
Except you can do most of that on the XX30 line too without any special hardware
Levi Turner
Also worth mentioning the EC flash which is required for removing the battery drm and fixing the keys on the classic keyboard requires no special hardware
Brody Cooper
"only fags use xx20s" But what if I use a T410

forgot the rest of my post:
the one and only argument here for a xx30 thinkpad is "muh gpu" along with "but you don't need all that stuff trust me I know what you need" specific to mentally ill individuals. also, if you skim through these threads you'll realize most people buy xx30 models and start swapping their keyboards and hardware flash just to turn them into """"inferior"""" xx20 models.
Isaac Clark
its slow and old and the ultrathin bezel of the xps is alluring
Kayden Robinson
My t420 is getting to 60°C how to solve heating issue I blew out the dust of the inside is it the cpu or should I get laptop cooler stand?
Jonathan Turner
Apply new thermal compound.
John Green
remove the fan and heatsink clear the fan clear the old paste on both the heatsink and cpu add good paste (pea method), everything else is shit test
Dylan Wright
You mean shitpost
You only need to flash your bios for the 1866 mhz ram, wifi card and Intel me And honestly if care about those that much dropping 5-6 dollars for a soic clip shouldn't be a problem considering how much 1866 mhz ram and a 7260 AC costs you dumb mentally unstable faggot
Owen Myers
What concerns me more is the level of assburger you guys have for defending the laptop you own.
It's not like arguing for months in and out is going to change anyone's mind.
Carter Bailey
>buy 1080p screen >set resolution to 1366x758
Why is scaling so shit?
Gavin Foster
>You only need to Like I said, "I know what you need" type arguments galore, zero substance.
Joshua Robinson
Why is the t420 so superior? Should I get t440 if I can get one cheap? What about the t4xxs line? Is it shit?
Jackson Baker
>implying you're not doing the "I know what you need" bullshit you're blaming me for You're doing the same thing you dishonest faggot You're lying by saying shit like """ only the gpu """ Just can it you double nigger
Juan Cook
>slow Clean it out and replace the thermal paste.
Oliver Nguyen
>why is the T420 superior It isn't the T430 is arguably better if you know what you want >should I get a T440 No you should get a T440p if you find it for cheap >T s line Don't.
Samuel Fisher
>Should I get t440 if I can get one cheap? No, the t440 is like a child between X and T. Pretty much just a 14" ultrabook.
t440p on the other hand it's good after a touchpad replacement.
Disregard that, apparently ebay shows us only listings by default? That's dumb
Michael Thompson
Can I put a **10 series keyboard on my T430?
Gavin Howard
Can I upgrade the storage and/or ram on a yoga 720 13"?

Anyone here put Ivy Bridge cpu into their T420?
Grayson Ward
iirc T410, T420, X220 keyboard are all the same hardware so these should work with the mod. don't know the rest. Someone else confirm
Jordan Watson
Is 550 € good price for a t440p with i7-4700mq, 8gb, 256gb ssd, nvidia GT730M, 1920x1080? And what about 220 € for a t430 with i5-3320m, 4gb, 320gb hdd and 1600x900?
John Lee
no idea about europe prices but that t440p is pretty much maxed already.
>nvidia dGPU + QM processor, both sharing the same heatsink if you end up buying it please post temps, i'm curious about that
Evan Lewis
make one then
Jason White
I don't think I will buy it. I did some research and found out it is running quite hot. I'll search for a t430 with better specs than the one I posted.
Wyatt Wilson
We got thinkpad 13" Gen 2 with 768ps from our college.
How shitty was their choice? And how much of a fag am I for owning one?
Nathaniel Bailey
you aren't a fag for owning a thinkpad, user
you're a fag because you smoke pole for fun
Justin Robinson
Oh thank you kind stranger.
But is it a good thinkpad?
Wyatt Ramirez
What model? If the model code (T410, X220) isn't displayed below the LCD, its likely not great.
Jordan Perry
It says "13"
Cooper Ward
Looks like the typical Walmart ultrabook, probably U processor and stupid shit like soldered ram as well.
Wouldn't buy one personally but i guess it's okay if given for free/10
Bentley Jones
Not as good as a T- or X-series thinkpad then.
Grayson Adams
It has replacable ram i think, atleast you can add ram.
As I said, it's a thinkpad 13" Gen 2 with 768ps from our college.
And we got them for free, so I think that's a great deal. (We get stipends for this via our government)
I find it cool how I can choose between charging with USB-C and use the weird charger that comes with it.
Gabriel Scott
>But is it a good thinkpad?
I wouldn't even call it a real Thinkpad. Lenovo is cheapening the brand with consumer orientated stuff like this.
Robert Walker
Shit. I want pepe on my laptop. I'm jealous
Charles Thomas
looking at the lenovo site it seems like the base model would be breddy good for general school use and not much else. it seems a little expensive for the base model and quickly gets unreasonable once you add a dec processor and a little more ram.
like this user said if it was free then use it as a schoolwork machine with a great battery and don't worry about how small your benis is
John Watson
Like before. Its not horrible but its not 11/10 ThinkPad quality
James Barnes
>How shitty was their choice?
For $60 extra they could have upgraded from that 768p TN to a 1080p IPS. It's especially shitty because now there will be a meme that Thinkpads have bad screens and everyone from your college will end up buying Macs because of it.
Other than that I don't know what I would have done with a similar budget. L470 would have been great but it's more expensive.
Luke Gonzalez
We get these from school. And the school buys them from the government.
The media and communication people can choose to get a macintosh, but they have to pay a hefty price of their own as well.
So you can choose to have a free laptop, or pay for a mac.
Aiden Lopez
At >no cost to you It's a good deal. If you have to buy one in the future... >Don't get a Thinkpad 13 As there are much better options in the wild wild laptop west.
Brandon Brown
I meant once your class graduates they will all dump Thinkpad and go for Apple instead.
Had they provided the better screen option there might have been some people who would stick with Thinkpads for the rest of the lives. It's a missed opportunity from Lenovo who no doubt sponsors this deal by giving big discounts.
Julian Walker
Everybody loves it in my class.
But that's probably because I am in computer electronics.

But the IT here did something really stupid. They made it so if you close the lid it turns off.
Everything on the PC is yours, your user is the admin on it and everything.
I was able to edit the register and some shit, but I don't think my class mates won't nother to do that.
I think they did it so if you are doing shit on the PC instead of listening to the teacher they can just close your lid and all your progress is lost (in games and in word)
Adrian Bell
>all that shit you typed
Are you 14?
Cameron Collins
>College >14 Not too far off to be honest

figures.
Nathaniel Thomas
It is called "Vidregående"
It is after 10th grade which is the last year of high school. Which we graduate at age 16.
Jeremiah Reyes
You can't change the power settings, since it is changed by the domain.
You can change it in the regestry, though.
Parker Sanchez
Ah, so College would be grades 11 and 12, AKA the end of High School in the States.
David Wright
College here is 2 to 5 years long, depending on the line you choose.
Cameron Robinson
What's with the picture in the OP? There is literally nothing wrong with the T430.
Brody Hernandez
frogposters do retarded shit, water is wet, etc

Is an Elitebook 2570p better than the x230? I can find 2570p for much cheaper.
Evan Taylor
Does anyone know if a w530 will use all 32gb of ram if I get it?
Christopher Russell
T420s/30s
Jose Green
Yes.
Jeremiah Campbell
how to do this on linux
Isaiah Brown
make a small partition, install w7 there, change the logo and then nuke the partition
Dominic Price
a perfectly alright alternative if you can get a better price and don't feel the need to be a meme-ber of the thinkpad club. some things i've noticed with my 2570p vs my x220:
-super duper solid -touchpad feels better, trackpoint not as good but very useable -no middle mouse button sucks, but has emulation in linux via clicking both buttons at the same time -keyboard layout sucks, chiclets keys are passable, not any worse than a macbook pro from that era -tn panel is marginally better than the stock x220 tn, not as good as even the chinkiest counterfeit x220/30 ips replacement -lol @ their "thinklight". fucking screen lights up the keys better -swappable cpu is great. got a deal on a 3632qm and popped it in -access panel RULES. swap parts and blow out dust all day -onboard sound seems better -bootable esata is great not overly hard to set up an egpu, but x220 was more plug & play
might look like an overall win for an x220/30, but i still think the 2570p has a lot going for it as long as you are ok with no ips upgrade path and the keyboard. upgradeable cpu, dvd drive, raid 0, esata, etc can mean a lot to some people. at the end of the day it's arguing over the merits of old business laptops that sell for less than $200, so fuck it just buy one
Landon Hall
Just got my x230 in the mail, god the keyboard and trackpad is bad. I already have a x220 keyboard on order, but can the trackpad be changed? otherthan that it's a nice improvment over my old x201 (i5, this has a i7).
Jonathan Collins
From which model can I swap it's fan to a T60 to drastically lower temps?
Caleb Morris
What's the best thinkpad for learning moon?
Gavin Lee
Anything with an IPS screen + weeb keyboard
Leo Russell
>+ weeb keyboard This part isn't necessary for me as I've ordered keyboard moon stickers.
Nathaniel Cruz
you'd be lacking 5 extra keys though, i have the weebboard
