around when OSX was first released.
Absolutley beautiful OS, and the world's most advanced

Beauty is only part of the equation in art.

They already have.

shame all of the hardware is shit
Let me game on Chrome OS, not some ugly ass chink laptop

They where, they aren't anymore.

What makes you say that

Gnome?

Je ne comprends pas

*blocks your path*

When they will become as easy to make as a drawing with pencil.

You can't unart art.

it's so beautiful it couldn't live

>as placing text
ftfy

As soon as we'll get a proper OS fully written in JavaScript.

i suspect gnome 4 will be that os lmao
they already do all styling in css and you can write js apps

the other part is being an advanced Unix OS

Dear god, they might as well send Fisherprice toys with that.

It's still cave painting compared to what's coming.

And speaking of, any speculative articles or even books on this?

No, that's not it. Your point is valid though.
It's just that current OS aren't art anymore, the old ones sure are.

You're saying it's all lost?

what's coming?

Some flat , form-over-function, piece of shit?

My Computer is a tool, not some nice-to-look-at art piece. This is why Aqua will never be usable by 99% of workstation powerusers. At least it's better than Windows 10 which is neither powerful nor beautiful.

Windows 2000 looked just fine.

>advanced
>UNIX
oxymoron

It's a sad thing that some 60 year old, hacked-together POS still manages to kick the shit out of almost every other OS built in the past 30 years.

because windows is a 50yo hacked-together pos, and linux is a knockoff of unix
there's no proper alternative
except for plan9
>Some flat , form-over-function, piece of shit?

there's all kinds of art bro.

imagine thousands of operating systems to choose from.

If you want your consumerist, web-browsing, Cloud, Chromebook, flat metro-sexual, IoT OS, then by all means, have it.

Just don't go pushing that garbage onto me.

not only operating systems will change, people will change too; read kurzweil. imagine people with intellect 1000000 times what we have now. imagine the impact advanced ai will have.

>the color palette was chosen based on psychologically soothing colors

top comfy

>because windows is a 50yo hacked-together pos
NT kernel is from the mid 90's

Obviously, where do you see minimalist design and carefully crafted code?

The operating system's own binaries and libraries crash because it's so convenient to be sloppy with memory protection and several programming languages.

Moi non plus

DISGUSTING

It still had DOS influences

It will be an art on its own.

I always wished this was still under development and had programs
It's a really comfy OS

What about Harvey?

wrong quoting

That's interesting. Any more info on the subject?

UNIX was hacked together, but the original creators had a really firm belief in the direction the design of the operating system should go, which is what made/makes it so great

Amiga's Workbench was really powerful considering the hardware it ran on.

net-art

Even more powerful hardware.
AmigaOS was and is a great piece of software. (Not talking about OS4/AROS/MorphOS)

Not really. It takes hints from it's own MS-DOS. That's all.
Also MS-DOS is still only 36 years old not 50.

By your logic macOS that has way more UNIX influence (then Windows has MS-DOS) would be 48 years old. Obviously it's not. Neither is Windows 36 years old.

What i'm trying to say is, I wish there was a completely clean slate OS out there that used modern paradigms and innovation. Creative concepts, akin to Plan 9 in creativity. Except for Plan 9 basically being Unix

The problem is that modern demands are far too complex for a "clean slate" unless it is limited to a very specific use.

Nothing is stopping you from turning a blank page.
If you can deliver everything legacy and current software provides.
Else it wouldn't even start gaining popularity.

There's also nothing wrong with UNIX.
Modernised versions exist, it's a timeless construct and philosophy, it's a well working system when used right.
We don't even need some new way of building and running an operating system, specially with our current hardware. Just better code would help.

I think it may have been a psychologist who suggested it, or the guy doing rio had read about it in some psychology book

The soviets found the same thing through research and this is why their aircraft cockpits are often pic related

Art means it has no other function other than being art

So in that case I would recommend Linux, as you can't really do anything meaningful with it other than looking nice

retard

Design is viewed as art.
Design is used on actual tools that have functions.

Why do you mean?

>NT kernel is from the mid 90's

WRONG!

Do you really think Microsoft would be able to create a real multitasking OS?

Microsoft stole VMS from DEC!

I'm a retard with not enough free time
I wish i could though, I'd love the idea of creating an OS from scratch

Have you actually read that yourself?

It's just design influences, some people are too fucking autistic.
NT is from the mid 90's.

Again, saying that just because design influences make a codebase older than when it was actually written, is saying that macOS is a 48 year old OS (Which would be much truer because it actually still contains exact code, instead of NT and VMS, that are only linked by design.)

>one guy who made parts of one operating system can't make parts of another one in a well know, working way for him without his code and decisions being mocked
grow up faggot
