It lags a bit on me when I have a lot of programs open, which happens easily since mac by default leaves a lot of the stuff you close running in the background to load faster if you open it again. You have to rememeber to really close stuff by right clicking it in the task bar. But anyway it lags a bit if I have 20+ firefox tabs going along with word excel and a music player. Also running a VM on 2GB of ram makes it start slowing pretty quick. It's a weird kind of slow though, it just stops for a while and gives you that rainbow loading cursor then everything is fine for a while, instead of constant slowness like when windows lags.

Ive had it about a month now, the battery stays at 100% for like the first hour of use, Im starting to think they purposely have it say that to make the battery appear to last longer. But whatever, I left it on sleep for 3 days and it was still at 100%, used it for 3 hours and it said 84%. Ive been impressed so far.

Get the macbook air. It's a great notebook. I actually bought one for 800 euros too, about a month or two ago.
Macs have their own quirks but it's still ten times better than windows 10 or windows altogether. MS Office is available if you want it but Apple has it's own free iWork suite that'll get most jobs done and is beautiful. Exports ms office files, too.
Either that or install gentoo and suffer. I quit win10 for good and am not going back. Apple is going downhill but so is Microsoft atm. We'll see how the future plays.
For 800, you're getting ripped off. At most you should pay 750 for the pro model.

I don't think you realize that the Macbook Air goes for 1127 retail. Also the thing with Macs is they retain their value after the longest time. He buys the thing now for 800, it sells for 600 two years later in good condition.
The thing with pcs and pc laptops is they're these short-sighted single-use plastic trashes, you buy one for 350 now and it's worth 30 bucks two years from now with a broken fan and a flimsy screen. Macs are valuable. They are premium machines and a whole package. And obviously i wouldn't buy one and install gentoo on it, i'd buy the dell xps or whatever, but then i still have to go thru all the hassle to make it work properly and to use, even. Macs work. They're not for everyone and they're overpriced, but guess what? Not everyone wants your neckbeard GNU/linux/KDE/GNOME/desuROM piles either.

There's nothing you need to consider, either go Apple or don't. macOS is unix-based and has all the GNU tools you're used to on linux. It's million times better a dev environment then windose and comparable to linux but smoother on the GUI and desktop.

Bought one because I needed macos for examsoft and some other programs for school, I'm dual booting it with macos and fedora 26.
Macos is nice for normie shit and you get used to the touchpad gestures and all that, but as a proper unix system it's lacking a lot and KDE is much better in terms of usability imo.
If you're gonna stick with macos homebrew and zsh make it ok for daily use.
