1) It just werks
2) status
3) fuck you

it's the premium tech. People have to show that they are not cheap so their higher ups won't ignore them

Because stupidity surprisingly can bring people far.

Some people just like the OS user.
I used it for a while in a hardware repair shop. For normal usage it is ok but i want more than normal usage.

they're a polished status symbol with positive brand image, whether the software itself is good is up to you and depends on your use case

you should learn to think for yourself

t. Sup Forumsirgin or GNUtoddler that can't touch a computer without a wiki to hold their hand through it

Or because they heavily subsidize wholesale purchases to large tech companies? Literally to forward the "status symbol" shit you retards somehow believe.

If you work at a big 4 everyone has one, because you either get your standard issue HP shit book, or the option of a full spec MBP, and I wonder what option people will choose every time?...

t. Assblasted Macfag

They made excellent laptops up until last december.

> looks good (OS and hardware)
> stable
> underlying unix arch = good for IT pros

Why wouldn't you, OP?

Unix capability and your bsd toolset alongside muh GUI. Same OS and support so easy file passing and shit. They're more expensive than a thinkpad running debian, but in business it costs more to fix compatibility issues between employees and their windows, bsd,Linux, etc, setups. It's a business no brainer and prevents headaches.

You can develop shit for Android, Linux servers and some shit for Windows (mostly multiplatform) from any OS, you can only develop for the extremely profitable iOS platform and macOS from macOS.

but don't they have pretty garbage enterprise support? it's not really all that often that I see macshit outside of fortune 500s or hipster startups

>Mfw these threads just proves Sup Forums is full of robots who can't relate to others

I mean all you need is VPN support and access to your cloud backend. Not much development is done on your laptop. 90-95% is all done over your cloud workstation.

...

MacOS MDM isn't all that bad for managing the devices either

they get old and do stupid things with their now stupid brains

>you either get your standard issue HP shit book, or the option of a full spec MBP
Have you actually used a mobile workstation before? HP's professional laptops are so radically different from their consumer garbage that they may as well be a different brand.

>proprietary

T. I own a mac

This tells you that:
-You will never earn a reasonably wage at that company.
-Company is about keeping up appearances.
-Your potential superiors do no have any affinity with technology.
-You will be the "nerd" as long as you work there.
-They are flamboyant homosexuals.

Yes, and I chose a MBP over it.

Trackpad is ass, and I have NO idea why they cannot figure it out to save their lives.

Solid terminal, can run unix utilities and command line applications natively, interfaces with linux easily over ssh, solid choice of package managers, app store with actual apps worth using, computers last 5+ years, high resale value, low maintenance, easy and secure cloud syncing with built in 2fa, physical stores all across with world for hardware support, priced competitively with computers in the same class (ultrabooks), full personal tech stack integration (desktop, laptop, smartphone, cloud, watch, tablet), and more

The list goes on and on

oh and I forgot about the unbeatable multitouch track pad

how many dildos are inside your anus at this moment?

Posers. They compensate for their lack of technical skill with trendy hardware.

I understand that someone would like mac for its OS, but why would someone buy watch, i haven't looked at a watch since forever. Watches were good when there were no phones around.

> get a job

Saw a headline that NYPD is switching their 30K Windows phones to iPhones.

>normie cannot find a better arguement than to appellate to the opponents personality

If you count gainful employment writing software and managing linux infrastructure professionally as dildo then exactly one plus several interviews and offers a month

Nice argument btw,

Don't forget to Stay NEETâ„¢ ;)

Who are you quoting?

You. In fact, we are you.

I used OSX for Node, Python and some C# Mono Development. Never had a Single Problem

>Is there a reason most professionals use Macs or am I just poor?
Macs area form of functional fashion accesories, and people purchase them to be a part of the trend.
They cost more than what is practical, but they are cheap enough to be attainable to anyone with a job.

>i want more than normal usage

Like what? Gaming? Writing boring software for the pathetic companies that buy into the microsoft stack?

Have fun giving your data to Microsoft for free and using a computer that restarts it's self without your permission every 3 days

alright larpers it's time to get out, i have op's answer
the reason people have macs around is because there's this fucking fucking budget thing

the person making the hardware buying decisions, he needs to spend all of the allotted budget he has, every fucking year
why? because if he ever doesn't use all of his budget in a year, then the beancounters are going to say to him next year that the operating budget available is smaller
he needs to maintain a certain amount of spending every year, and if he can get things that look like they're useful and expensive to people that don't know fucking better, they'll think he's doing a good job

then next year, when shit actually hits the fan and he needs to buy a lot of essential hardware, fast, he fucking can because nobody slashed his fucking budget for this shit

lol nice hypothetical that doesn't address any of the actual reasons why developers and other IT professionals prefer using Macs

>being unemployed is a unique quirk of my creative personality

shut up larper, show me your latest ingram micro order
oh wait you're not in charge of provisioning equipment, or in charge of anything, or in the industry at all
suck my dick

So lemme get this straight, you order parts and computers for IT professionals, while not actually using the computers to create software, configure remote infrastructure, or create content, then you go about telling others why the IT professionals you work for like using the computers/software they do?

fucking lol

not the last time you'll be wrong today

cryptic statements aren't arguments

you still haven't addressed actual reasons why many developers prefer to use macOS and Apple Hardware

op's question has been answered, fully, with the real world explanation of why it happens

you clearly want to be entertained or something, you're asking unrelated questions, and are all around a poster that seems to be shit
so, poster of shit, allow me to answer your shit question with a shit answer
"many" people have scat fetishes too, yet they are a loud minority you only hear about because they are against the real world norms

>macbabby calling linux users children
jesus christ i want off this ride

>my answer is obviously correct because im really angry about it for some reason, no need to back it up

rich

yeah you are right, IT professionals don't use macs because they prefer to use them. That wouldn't be a real world reason for why anybody uses anything

watching you get angry and flail around has been quite entertaining

much appreciated user

...

>mom look I'm using ""command line"" to open a video
>what do you mean "what advantages?" it's freaking 1337!!
>I can't connect it to TV or sound system it's a minimal kernel, let me recompile quickly
>what do you mean this is stupid ALL THE SERVERS AND ALL THE 1337 HACKERS USE LINUX
>you're not a ""computer enthusiast"" you just don't understand
Desktop linux is a toy for larping teenage retards.

I'm not the person you responded to, but you need to calm down and stop spewing dumb shit

I use linux as a desktop at work (fedora+i3) and I live in the command line because I'm constantly sshing onto remote linux boxes, running and writing ansible playbooks, and writing python code. The command line is an extremely powerful and versatile tool that is largely the same across unix operating systems, that can easily be accessed and configured remotely.

Yeah there are a lot of larpers on this board but that doesnt mean your arguments are anything more than useless screed

it's probably inconsiderate for me to reply "no problem", as you seem to have more than a few serious ones

>you can't ssh into a machine from macos/windows/any other os
>you can't write text files on any other os
>you can't write python code on any other os
As I said it's for autistic retards like yourself.
>desktop use of local os
>describes remote sessioning into servers
Top yourself, cretin.

ohhhh you got me lol

desu I would have left this conversation with a tiny bit of respect for you if you just responded with a 'no problem'. It would have shown that you have a sense of humor and you don't take yourself too seriously. However, that response was more entertaining so I do appreciate your effort.

Though if you'll excuse me, I have a phone interview tomorrow morning and I stayed up too late laughing at your petty arrogance

Good night user and thank you

CentOS is installed on the servers at work so Fedora is a natural choice because it is very similar. I can test simple configs and run scripts locally if I don't to waste time provisioning a test server in the cloud.

I like editing configs and programming in vim because Vim keybindings are dank, Vi/m is installed on all the boxes I work on by default so I dont have to edit files locally and then copy them over, and I can drop my config onto any box im working on from my github in a mater of seconds.

also a lot of the software I write tend to be command line tools because they are much simpler, faster to develop, and more easily integrated into automation systems.

>you can't ssh into a machine from macos/windows/any other os

you arent wrong about this one. DESU I would be using a Mac with iterm2 and local vagrant vms if I had it my way but the company I work for gave me a linux desktop so I use it.

Windows is totally out of the picture tho, putty is terrible, powershell is a different platform than what I work with and I prefer my OS to not be preloaded with spyware

Games don't run on it, so they won't get distracted.

what is your job title user

DevOps Engineer

Windows had cygwin since forever, and built in Ubuntu/SLES subsystem as of last month. Overall the initial edgy rant was targeted at local teenagers compiling Gentoo to keep their anime and porn more secure, not you and other 2.5 anons who do actual work on computers. Now I must away. Adieu.

>college degrees
A liberal arts/humanities degree is worth less than any trade job certification mate.

>MBP pad
>goid
So I see I've wandered into a shill thread. Can't wait for the rep at the genius bar to say point sticks are bad.

...

>oh my god someone like tech I don't like LE FUGGEN (((SHELLS))) :DDD

Not an argument.

I have a mbp at work. Thinking about moving to a linux laptop because I enjoy tinkering but the mac is too damn comfy and works so well.

I use command line all day with no issues, can always run a docker image or ssh if I need to do something linux specific.

>be NYPD female technology leader
>choose MS/nokia for a device expected to be used for at least 7 years.
>Be done with roll out.
> MS decide no more support.
>switch to apple.

Not a fan of apple, but MS should consider the optics on this.

t. linux user since 2009.

>the mac is too damn comfy and works so well.
So does Linux. The maymays about how you have to configure xorg.conf and whatever else are from people who have never used Linux in their lives.

Try Fedora, thank me later.

>le status symbol

Jesus Christ you autistic retards, nobody outside of HERE sees computers as status symbols. Cars and clothing are what people usually look for in a person. There's plenty of rich bimbos who don't even have computers at all. Its no mystery why people who can, do buy Macs. MacOS itself is basically flawless and they just happen to run on Apple's own computers the best which are pretty decent as pieces of hardware themselves, still, what makes them great is MacOS. You really think executives at any company use Windwoes on their personal machine? I guarantee you all the higher-ups in Windows producing laptop companies have Macs at home. I doubt the people at Acer for instance actually use their own shitty products. Even Microsoft Surface teams do NOT look like they're actually using that, they're just trying to peddle it to everyone else for a paycheck. Nobody who's pampered with cash has the time or emotion to deal with Windows plebbery and OEM bullshit. Apple is the only manufacturer who you can speak to in person about an issue and have a real person help you. Don't mention IBM shit either, that's not for the average person.

>macOS is flawless
Lol no.

Because developing on Windows sucks and lots of big companies aren't willing to deal with the hassle of supporting linux

>Apple is the only manufacturer who you can speak to in person about an issue and have a real person help you.
What? Dell has on-site technical support for even single users, it doesn't force you to drive off to somewhere. You simply have no clue what you're talking about.

well, typically, most of them are a bunch of faggots, so there you go

You're the clueless one, retard. Dell doesn't do that shit for free, do they? Apple on the other hand have stores if you're close AND on-site support using IBM's network.

That doesn't work for enterprise users

Most people I work with with macs. I'm a senior systems engineer and devops meme bro in a huge environment, 10s of thousands of servers total. I only use iterm2, sublime text, vagrant, virtualbox, and chrome, but it's a solid OS with all the cli tools i need plus homebrew to install everything else.

I hated it at first but now I wouldn't use anything else. Even turned my Linux desktop at home into a hackintosh.

ITT are people who don't touch computers for a living and don't understand that having to janitor your work machine is fucking autistic.

Most professional devs opt for the macbook over dell workstations because it's just no hassles unix. brew can accomplish anything i'd need on linux.

>virtualbox
m8 why not fusion. also this is basically me but for a startup.

>trackpad is ass
Who cares when all the pros use the clit mouse?

Status. Usability is moot. Fuckwads wanting their apps supporting iOs. I had a Linux box until some jerkoff thought it would be nice to see an ipad for signing in when he walked through his company's lobby. Touch screen hard to use? It better have keyboard support. Why not just a pc? Cause an ipad looks nice. Fuck me.

>not running arch on your work machine
>not enjoying the FRESHEST packages
>not having the CHILLEST processor
>not hanging out with the HOTTEST devs
I bet you don't even have a decent conky display on your desktop, you turbopleb.

Ps, i dont mind the mac. 6/10

>try out arch, notice it crashes between every few hours
fuck of

>frogposter
>makes fresh linux crash
not surprised

www-935.ibm.com/services/uk/en/it-services/technical-support-services/apple-care-for-enterprise/

This is literally for enterprise users you retarded fuck.

Your claim was that NO OTHER COMPANY did this. I just showed you that not only does Dell do it, they do it in a way Apple doesn't: on site support. Now you're changing the goalposts like it's an outrage that you have to pay for a guy to drive to your house and fix your stuff.

Where's the link for personal users?

>Dell doesn't do that shit for free, do they?
Show us a company doing on-site repairs for free, you retard.

Mac is better.

I guess it's an american thing, last time I talked to a civil engineer he said he was using a MSI laptop.

Fusion costs money and honestly I've had way less problems with integrating other tools wiu virtualbox. Stuff like terraform and packer and vagrant plugins

I moved no goalpost you dumb fuck. No other company can do BOTH, you dense fucking bastard. Jesus Christ, you'd think someone would learn to read when browsing a board which is primarily text.

Now THIS is moving the goal posts.
>hurdur das not for enterprise
>here you go, this is for enterprise
>b-b-b-b-but what about home users

Its the same thing, retard. If your Mac is mission critical you're going to have enterprise support. There is no 2 tiers, they're pointless. Normal tier, a plethora of online services or go to a physical store or authorized Apple repair place. If you're more important than that then you're on enterprise. Understand?

>No other company can do BOTH
What? I just showed you a level of support that Apple can't match.

>Now THIS is moving the goal posts.
No it isn't. Dell does on-site support for both enterprise and home users. Apple doesn't. If they do, please show me.

>There is no 2 tiers
I didn't ask for 2 tiers, I asked for the same level of support at home and at work. Dell does this. Why would on-site be restricted to enterprise?

>optics
kys

>There is no 2 tiers, they're pointless. Normal tier, a plethora of online services or go to a physical store or authorized Apple repair place. If you're more important than that then you're on enterprise.

>there are no 2 tiers
>proceeds to describe how there are 2 tiers

Are you allowed to drive and vote?

How can't Apple match those levels of support when they objectively have more resources than Dell? They have on-site and in-person centers all over the world? How could Dell possibly have more than this? Last I checked, there's no Dell shops around me. Unless you know of a service where they teleport some neckbeard to my door to fix my shit instantly.

About your second point, you're fucking fixating on the NAME of the service. If Apple will send someone to your house as an individual customer, does it fucking matter what they've called the service or are you just that dumb? What is the difference between 'X home user on-site support for $50/y' and 'X enterprise support for single customer for $50/y'? Please do tell me what the fuck the difference is other than what they're called in the brochure, retard.

Learn to follow conversation, there's no two tiers of ON-SITE/ENTERPRISE support you fucking mongoloid. Are you allowed to use the family PC?

>How can't Apple match those levels of support when they objectively have more resources than Dell?
I don't know, it's a mystery, but the unavoidable fact remains.

>Last I checked, there's no Dell shops around me
Last I checked there's no on-site support from Apple for personal users.

>If Apple will send someone to your house as an individual customer
Ok, show me how I can achieve this without being registered as a company. Basically, how can I get this for a MBP I bought for myself.

>there's no two tiers of ON-SITE/ENTERPRISE support you fucking mongoloid. Are you allowed to use the family PC?
No one asked for or suggested that anywhere.

>Is there a reason most professionals use Macs
They don't

But at the places where Macs are prevelant it is because if you give them Windows, their useless employees will want to install a ton of software, and as a byproduct viruses. If you give them a Mac, there isn't any software they can install - virus or otherwise.

Don't y'all have something better to do than suck off IBM/Dell/Apple all day?

Maybe if you're computer illiterate

Meng I work at Langley and the laptop distribution is a solid 50/50 between current-gen ThinkPads and MacBooks. And tbqh, the MBPs are a way better choice than the shitty X260s or T460s. Who the fuck thought making the entire trackpad a spongy pressable shitfest needs to be fired.
