Jesus, it is a matter of accumulation of capital. Australia could accumulate it for over 100 years without any wars on its territory and without being a part of soviet block. Poland wasn't so lucky, we were totally impoverished by devastating wars and 45 years of communism, and we accumulate capital for barely 20 years so far, so it is rather obvious that we can't be as rich nominally as Australia with shitty raw-material exporting economy.
