>Be PHP coder >Create social media website that allows people to write whatever they want to curb the current status quo of 'silence', 'isolate', and 'moderate' of tech industry. >Site survives on my desire to have less censorship overall and no data mining. No money is made from the site. >Start to plug it on forums, websites, reddit, etc. >People have an overall negative reaction. >Sup Forums has been giving me suggestions. >Sup Forums asked a few rules being changed and SSL Thanks Sup Forums for the guidance.
As of right now I want to spread the cause. I wonder if there are others that have the same opinion as me that the internet should be free and not have algorithms and shadow-bans be the future. Freedom is the future in my opinion. Who wants to join my cause?
how would you change it? I am not sure how to make it look the way you want it.
Austin Reed
Shrink some text, don't have the first thing be a single image slideshow. Better navigation. ect
Gut most of the reader's responsibility
Christopher Flores
IT LOOKS GOOD NICE TRY ((()))
Ethan Ortiz
>quads. Also. How would you implement navigation? What do you expect?
Hudson Harris
stop shilling your drupal site on my image board.
Parker Powell
dumb drupalposter
Connor Davis
Dude i like the fact you made this but jesus fuck fix the mobile version of the site. Fuck these spergs most normies use their phones for everything.
Parker Richardson
I hand coded it man.
Lucas Wood
How about most of the buttons on the nav bar to work? Browsing postings looks shitty because the design is simple in the sense that it looks like it was slapped together poorly. Also minimalism sucks
What's wrong with the mobile version? I've tested it on my S8+ and haven't had an issue.
>Looks like it was slapped together poorly. Also minimalism sucks Can you give me an example of how you would want it to look?
I don't have a captcha.
Noah Hill
Google Recaptcha loads in the head. You might be using a framework with jewish tricks.
Blake Perry
>Can you give me an example of how you would want it to look? I just did. Quit sucking and make something nice faggot. I'm not going to hold your hand. >google Ditch it. Fags use google.
Evan Reyes
I was using that for a test on my site in case I needed a recaptcha but as of right now there is no recaptcha running on the site.
Jackson Reyes
I started some work on a dark-theme.css but never got through to it. Would this be something that would be to your taste Sup Forums?
Jordan Turner
Here is what the dark theme looks like. I was playing around with the font size as well.
Oliver Stewart
shoot just realized there was some old styling there I will need to rewrite it to make it right again.
Sebastian Wright
I just applied the dark theme for live... does that look at all better for you?
Charles Smith
This has to be bait. I mean, if you can't see what's wrong with the mobile site there isn't any hope for this thing anyhow. R.I.Pepperoni
Andrew Roberts
What do you guys think of the dark theme? I literally just coded this. What do you think?
Hudson Robinson
I am not baiting I am sorry. Can you provide a screenshot of what you're talking about?
Christopher Hernandez
>1stamender.com you have horrible taste and no matter how hard you try you will never be able to change that.
James Adams
Okay. How about something constructive?
Grayson Carter
So legitimately... I am looking for people who believe in a change of current censorship. If you feel like you want to do something about it with me... let me know. This is not a matter of offering a platform for the alt-right, the alt-left, etc. This is about having a platform for all and defending that value. Is anyone here with me?
Julian Diaz
Sometimes giving up is the most constructive thing you can do.
Nathaniel Kelly
Sorry. It's too important to me to give up.
Blake Foster
>big blue bar that takes up too much screen space and never leaves >disgusting bold font that is really hard to read >color scheme all over the place. (Brown, blue, red, black, red) >the bottom space is unnecessarily long >small images while browsing the catalogs There is a lot you could change. You're taking everything thats ugly about modern websites and putting it into one hot pile of shit.
This site looks like a terrible idea, from the look of it articles are freely lifted from other sites (at least they're "cited" ;^) ) ,the focus on being anti-censorship is going to make it a haven for more obnoxious conservatives who'll turn it into a heavily biased circlejerk like Sup Forums, if the site even takes on at all.
What's the sorting algorithm like, how are people supposed to sort through shit that anyone can post? Won't each article wind up full of uncited unverifiable rumour and conjecture set to confirm the author's biases?
Most media companies have editorial oversight for a reason, it's just an unfortunate fact that money and resources to run a company come with agendas.
Anthony Sanchez
It shoes
Jackson Young
Not him, but for example. Why are you making me scroll almost an entire page for a category?
James Reyes
>it shoes.
David Morris
I can change this. Thank you for the suggestion.
Lincoln Jones
keep up the good work
people will hate it, but it will only get better if you ask for their help
Wyatt Anderson
You're welcome. Also, the menu should expand downwards here, and the search bar is out of place. It also could be in the header, it certainly has space to be.
Thomas Hernandez
Thanks man. I am working hard on it and do want to see less censorship. It is kinda' the motif of Sup Forums to immediately shit on anything that isn't trolling someone or hating on something. Which is fine. People are free to say what they want to say. Occasionally I get a nice response from someone. It makes me feel like we are in a world of a mixed bag. Hence the way a website should be.
Yeah a lot of articles are copy pasted. To be honest I'm not bothered by it being that we're anti-copyright as it kills off people's freedoms and allows big corporations to corner a market that would otherwise be easy to enter with patents and copyright.
Chase Garcia
Great suggestion. To be perfectly honest... that damn navbar is so so finnicky to the point I am afraid to touch it. But I will see what I can do. You are not wrong!
Joseph Long
You're going to run into a lot of trouble if you keep letting your contributors aggregate (steal) articles from the big boys. You may be some libertarian wackjob but you're still beholden to the laws of the US and it's your responsibility under the DMCA to actively police IP theft on your site. That's why reddit works as a news aggregator, they only post links to articles. Their subreddits may be moderated by anonymous cabals and article visibility may be dictated by the tyranny of the majority but they don't repost copyrighted content, they just link to stolen content on imgur.
Michael Green
Then it is an object to deal with natural law when the time comes. I know I will get into trouble here and we can fight what is wrong. Just because someone spews a stream of words doesn't mean someone shouldn't be able to share that information. It would be one hell of a fight and I would most likely lose. I really just don't care. I want information to be shared and transferred as that increases our overall quality of life.
Jeremiah Taylor
You obviously hand coded that reply
Brody Howard
Also, studies show that most people have no idea what the hamburger is for on mobile sites despite the fact that it's everywhere. You should probably also have the text "Menu" next to it and not just an icon. For the sake of accessibility
Anthony Murphy
That's a terrible hill to die on. Journalism is a job, these people are paid to do original research. It's work. They cite their sources if they take anything because information is of value. They work on commission from media outlets who WILL sue you into the dirt when they find out you plagarised entire articles. These media outlets survive on clicks and ad views for revenue and when they find out that you're stealing visibility from them they'll rain lawyers on you, and guess what? Even if it's "unfair" that media comes from big outlets with actual resources, the law's on their side.
Jackson Bell
I'm actually doing you a favour by warning you, shut the site down.
Zachary Wilson
We cited each and every article and secondly if someone has a problem with a specific article worst comes to worst we take down the 1 article out of thousands. I really really really don't like doing it but for the sake of the site not getting taken down I can make a few reasonable sacrifices.
Isaac Cox
na.
Parker Young
That's not an excuse, you can't host content that isn't yours, it's illegal. Citing the sources is pretty much just you admitting culpability. You're dealing with very large corporations and one lawsuit for one article will bankrupt you.
Brayden Clark
Provided you site the source it is fine. I source it + provide a link and suggest to support the original writer. Secondly when I get actual people writing I would have no problem simply taking down all articles that have been cited from my site.
Michael Walker
copy r*ddit and find a way to link the articles instead of just copy-pasting. But still allow for posting your own shit.
Dylan Hernandez
Holy shit, it's like talking to a brick wall. You clearly don't have the discipline or fundamental business knowledge to run a news site. May God have mercy on you when you get found out. Not if, but when.
Chase Rogers
In the event something does happen... the rules do state that it does not allow copyrighted material. I only did the copy paste to fill up the database with things. There are also a good amount of articles that have been written by regular people.
Point that I'm getting at is I'm just trying to fill the site up till I get actual articles.
Adrian Smith
I don't think it would be as bad as you predict. I really don't know until I give it a shot. Also that the site itself does not condone posting copyrighted material as stated in the rules.
Kayden Butler
>never posted another interestingly enough There's no incentive.
Jaxson Sullivan
I thought about creating a leveling system or something to help that along... but eh. Just seemed like fluff to me.
Charles Sullivan
You're in clear violation of the DMCA. It doesn't matter what you put it the rules, you're responsible for what users put on your site.
Ian Bell
most journalists work for cash
Gabriel Nguyen
I'm not looking for journalists. I'm looking for any joe-shmoe who is passionate about what they preach.
Hudson Kelly
and best of luck to you
you'll need it
Kayden Phillips
It could operate as a frontend or reverse proxy to a tor hidden service that runs the site.
No potentially illegal content is hosted on a system he manages himself.
Jace Jackson
Went onto the site and was given this message. I highlighted it to see the full message but this obviously does not seem right.
Jonathan Gray
Ah. That's the modal. Let me fix that.
Jace Parker
they'll get more visibility on social media, unless what they're preaching gets taken down, in which case your site will just be a safehaven for hate speech, is that what you want?
Easton Rogers
>html 5 first and last time I ever visit your shit site
Gavin Taylor
Are you using Laravel? What PHP framework is this my dude
Jeremiah Sanders
I want a safe haven for all speech. I want it for controversial speech and good speech.
Henry Anderson
nobody is going to use it for anything but hate speech, you'll get a reputation
William Martin
Also, when going to an article that does not exist, I am presented with this. You might want to fix the design of this a little as it looks too compact.
Jordan Davis
Tell you what. I'll start up a discord so you can sign in and voice your concerns. It's easier for me that way.
discord.gg/uSBnckW
Joseph Wright
What only one?
Julian Watson
>opinion >the dude nice touch but it still looks ugly 2bh
Luke Smith
The navigation is huge. Even on a 27" monitor, I can see only half of the sections at once, and without context. They just say things like "Technology" and "Gaming", but that doesn't tell me enough about what I'm going to find at the other side of the link. Compare that to Sup Forums's homepage, even. There, all of the boards are clearly visible. They're categorized. They're even labeled as being "Boards". Other derivatives will have things like Fast/Recent/Top/Quality Threads on the homepage so you can find interesting discussions right away.
You should pick one background color instead of two. The black and gray does not look good. Usually, when sites choose a background, too, they'll at least have the content on white boxes. For example, Roland has a similar sort of layout with a carousel at the top of many pages, but their content is all on white with gray margins (pic related). It's easy to read and makes it clear where the "page" is
The fonts in the header also make the Ts look like Bs. I thought you had a typo and it said "Regisber" when I first glanced at it.
I'd also put the name "Firstamender" in the top left next to the logo. It will emphasize the logo and will make it more clear that the site itself is called Firstamender. The question "What is Firstamender?" doesn't do enough to ensure that that really is the name of the site and not just a topic that the site is about, or something else, for example.
You also have a lot of broken image links on the actual topic pages. Check out the img element's onerror attribute. There, you can define a default placeholder for when things don't load correctly
Leo Powell
OP please see this post. ^
Tyler Turner
Sup Forums is not your personal qa. there's a reason people get paid to do that shit
gtfo
Gavin Myers
I saw it.
Anthony Brown
your intro paragraph was written by a 5 year old. kys.
Ryder Adams
then remove it. that shit tracks users when they make a network request to load it.

I'll see what I can do. In the mean time. I enjoy the feedback.

Disable TLS 1.0 ciphers. I'd also close off FTP and just do file transfer over SSH.
Carson Lee
>Discord Don't use that, it's proprietary software.
Also GPL your source code so people can fix it all themselves instead of waiting for you to unfuck the website.
Cameron Adams
>less censorship overall and no data mining >a wild altruist appears until it takes off, suddenly you cant afford hosting anymore out of pocket so you start advertising and censoring content to conform with advertisers - then it gets bigger and you start getting insane money offers for taking it public, thinking thats great you go ahead and then ((they)) sit you down and let you know youre going to allow it to be taken over or they ruin you and take it anyway, so you take the money and begin living on your own island with your waifu in exchange for selling your soul, your users and your dream
i'll save you all that trouble by ignoring your shill post
Joseph Morgan
you remind me of me ten years ago. been there, done that.
when you start sites predicated on "free speech", if you have any sort of meaningful growth past the like dozen or so principled free-speech libertarians that start the community, you basically get the dregs of the internet who managed to get banned from everywhere else. The resulting speech is going to be drivel written by complete fucking idiots that you will learn to hate and gradually make you lose interest in the site over time..unless you're one of those idiots, then you'll be happy as a clam i guess...
most people actually want some sort of moderation, it's why those big social media companies invest so much in those nefarious moderation techniques you described in your OP, people like their filter bubbles.
Kayden Ramirez
kek, this is accurate
Connor Murphy
there are companies that are pro-libertarian. With that being said we simply wouldn't let these giant companies bully people into removal of their rights.
Anthony Barnes
While I agree with what you are saying. You are also being highly presumptive of an overall populace. I do believe that people do have the intent to do good. If something is labeled as clearly spam it can be removed and moderated on the site. However I do not make this an excuse to simply remove content without a very very good reason to do so.
Jeremiah Hernandez
lol listen to how autistic this guy sounds. post a picture of yourself for us to laugh at please.

Can you change that light blue to something more neutral? It's very hard on the eyes and it's also the exact same color as Google blue.
Eli Rodriguez
God damn! I miss the old tubes. I built a shitty php/mysql site years ago for work to keep track of jobs, purchase orders, service orders. Nothing special, just some tables and forms to insert data into the forms. >I didn't touch it for two years. >Boss got tired of me having to edit his fuckups in phpmyadmin because I won't give him the password, so I added some ajax so they could edit it on the pages. >Year goes by, summerfag millennials get hired and had a web design class in college, says database looks archaic, wants to redo it with angular.js and shit to make it pretty and "responsive". >Site is litteral garbage now and takes seconds to load a page. >Boss bitches about how slow my inferior database is and decides to hire real designer company to code new database. Spends thousands and it got hacked by chinks in a week. >We now use a spreadsheet because of security and shit. Accounting is fucked because people copy the spreadsheet off of my fileserver and edit it on their own computer. No versioning. The saddest point of all this is we are a literal tech company of sorts in automation. The walking disasters in my office couldn't set a static IP on their computer if their lives depended on it.
Brody Barnes
aaaand just for fun. Timestamp. I'm not afraid to show myself.
Camden Diaz
>wouldn't let these giant companies bully people into removal of their rights We already have. The dailystormer might be offensive but it's still censoring free speech by denying their hosting. The only reason the censorship hasn't turned on the left is because they still have their muh nazi alt-right boogeyman. It's only a matter of time before that pendulum swings back, look at the UK with free ("hate") speech laws
inb4 Sup Forums
Benjamin Campbell
It sure does suck. The daily stormer wasn't about freedom of speech to begin with. The entire concept was to have only alt-right ideas. My site promotes all of that. Anyone who is willing to take down my site due to it being 'too free' is something that should be taken up with the highest law of the land. ... (The constitution)
The daily stormer sought to actively harm people with their agenda. That is not what 1stamender is.
Blake Jackson
CHANGE THE FUCKING BLUE REEEEEEEEEEEEE
Josiah Nguyen
Whyyy do you hate my blue I like it reee
Daniel Cook
You have nice eyes, user
Chase Cook
Oh! Thank you.
Nathaniel Lee
>You are also being highly presumptive of an overall populace. I do believe that people do have the intent to do good You are in for a rude awakening.
I repeat, Your site will only be attractive to people who got kicked out of other social spaces. Most people don't get kicked out of social spaces, and will take one look at your site and recoil in horror. Being "free speech" or "like that other site but with free speech" isn't enough of a draw in and of itself.
Nicholas Harris
>Free speech isn't enough Nigga I don't think you understand how important it is. But that your rights are being taken away and eroded little by little not by your government, but by corporations. This is a new evil unseen by history that must be stopped with the same power they use to stop your freedoms. I've already made 1stamender.com an LLC and I've already got the site coded. I am working out a few bugs but when I find people willing to help me in this cause is when this site takes off and a revolution can begin against the tyranny of the biggest tech companies in the world.
