sorry for my Swiss ass hijacking your thread, but is it true that you guys are a depressed as fuck population just like the west likes to you guys out to be?
Saw a couple videos how 30% of your population are part-time workers that can't afford living in an apartment, so they spend they live in Internet Cafes, and the ones that do work are mostly highly depressed because of the terrible work relationship with colleagues (lots of rivalry) and the huge amount of stress full-time provides most of the times over there.
Is it true or am I just being brainwashed by shitty documentaries?
I've been thinking for a long time to spend a month or so over there for vacation, absolutely love your food.

Today, I steamed rice with Mirin as I had seen in 甘々と稲妻. There was no difference in flavor, and the edges became charred.
The rice may have been fluffier though. It was hard to tell. I cook my rice on a stovetop, and not a rice cooker.
Tomorrow I will be trying it with some fairly expensive sake (for me). Something called やまとしずく 純米大吟醸.

What documentaries say are exaggerated, but working conditions aren't good.
Those shitty BBC-esque documentaries always try to make Japan look like it's some alien planet while not quoting any sources and just pulling statistics out of their ass.
Then they always pull out like the nerdiest shut-in otaku that they can find to talk about his waifu.
Documentaries display a problem that exists and then blow it out of proportions to make it more interesting, while completely ignoring any established data for the convenience their own narrative.
