I don't need it for DOS

I don't even have a 4k monitor for my desktop

Why would I want a 4k screen on my laptop?

>I don't even have 4K on my 110" Projector.

Good Font rendring and AA are what you need, user.

Because it runs on battery, you bed ridden NEET

Because I'm not autistic enough to need one.
I can see fine without it.

Words won't get through to these poorfags.

>overspend on a 4k screen laptop
>no hardware to actually run any games

Like buying a Ferarri without the engine

I probably would if I had the money for it, but even then I don't know how if Windows does DPI scaling anywhere as near as good as macOS, and I really don't think Linux is any better.

They're just $1400.00. No big deal.

Stop being a shut in NEET and get a job user

>13 inch screen
>To save battery life

hoho, what next... 4k screen on a phone? Oh wai-

So is it basically a hard and fast law of nature that no thread opening with a picture of a woman will ever be quality content, unless it's a porn thread?

Because people don't stay rich by needlessly spending money...

more of her plz

I don't have a laptop.

My laptop has a 2880x1800 display and is more expensive than most laptops with a 4K display.

>I don't know how if Windows does DPI scaling anywhere as near as good as macOS
It doesn't, I dual boot Windows 10 Pro and it's shitty. Not as bad as it was in Windows 7 but it still could be better.

I did, and I was issued a 1366x768 dell latitude, where's my 4k screen?

I enjoy porn in 1080p just fine

DING DING DING
give the boy a prize.

cause i ain't want that shit nigga

Such a Thinkpad doesn't exist

I actually have a laptop with a 4k screen, bought a second hand 2016 Razer blade a few months ago for $900 with the i7 and 970m, I'm realizing now though that it's silly, because anything intensive for school or gaming that I want to do, I'll 100 times out of 100 do it on my desktop, and having those specs is super over kill for typing documents / shitposting / video watching, so I'm thinking of selling it. I was thinking of selling it and just picking up a chrome book, especially since I can get a decent discount on one through my job. What do you guys think? And if chrome os is the main reason against using a chromebook, I'm pretty fine with just installing a Linux distro on it instead. Interested to here your thoughts

Sorry I didn't mean to specifically quote you in
that post

Because that'd require me to have a 16:9 laptop.

dog I dont know the meme about chromeos around here but I fucking love mine. perfect shitposting machine. Since you aren't paying for winbloat you get so much more value for the money.

I have a 4k screen on my laptop and dislike it because a lot of programs scale poorly including VMs. It also reduces battery life

More than 1080p on a laptop is really a waste

Because I'm a poorfag

>muh gaymes
Grow up faggot

Because I don't have a laptop
Admittedly if I did it wouldn't have one

KDE's scaling works fairly well

>werewolf eyebrows

fucking gross

lol okay

because i don't want to scale every application

What is a "screen poorfag"?
Did you mean to use a vocative case comma?
comma.guide/vocative-comma/

I bet you prefer shaved women as well?

just ignore him. he's obviously trolling.

>intentionally crippling performance for DPI meme

Sure buddy

if you're a gay myrrh then sure, performance for ur rig. if you code and do other information-based work for a living, then higher pixel densities mean sharper text, and less fatigue.

if your computer can't handle that performance hit, then yeah, maybe you should focus on upgrading your pentium iii before getting a 4k screen.

>sharper text, and less fatigue.

[Citation needed]

see "Effects of Display Resolution on Visual Performance" by Ziefle. it's from 1998. this is pretty uncontroversial among people who bother to look it up.

Scaling..

>comparing paper to a 89 dpi CRT screem

You're joking, right?

Unless you can come up with a peer-reviewed publication that objectively measures an attribute of reading or working and compares 1080p to 4k at identical ambient light levels, distance to monitors, fonts and rendering, color space, backlight technology etc

I am calling BULLSHIT on 4k aiding a reading/work environment compared to 1080p

the relationship between lower pixel density displays and higher pixel density displays was demonstrated, with paper serving as an extreme example in the direction of where displays could be someday.

when i said "see this paper", i didn't mean it metaphorically. i meant "go read it".

also see pre/post differences

A 15" 4:3 panel in 4k sounds like a pain desu

>89 dpi

1080p 15.6" is 141 DPI

we can safely assume that unless you've found a pixel density plateau, where people don't fatigue, the relationship holds up as long as you keep increasing the pixel density. there are clearly diminishing returns, but in relative terms for the first world it's not expensive to put a 4k panel in a 15" form factor.

this is how scholarship works. it articulates a relationship that you can draw from and extend on. we're not stupid enough to need every point along the way to be proven, because that underlying relationship is all we need.

>hidpi
Disgusting. Makes everything looks like some kinda smartphone interface shit.

lol what? it's literally just sharper text if you do scaling. are you conflating tablet interfaces with the screen pixel density?

Not being able to see the individual pixels is pretty disturbing and is reminiscent of mobile crap.

funny you should mention it being disturbing. i was going to suggest that you might be disturbed and need to talk to a therapist if densely packed displays trigger anxiety.

Because it has an OLED screen, loser

Poorfags get the fuck off my board.
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

No you idiot, the effects of CRT are a big confounder. How old are you? CRT were pure cancer to look at; you're literally looking into a tube that produces X-rays. LCD panels are miles different from CRT in eye strain

Everyone who thinks that you won't get more productive fron having a 4k laptop need to eat more carrots.
If you don't use scaling it's like having 4 laptops, except with one keyboard.

oh my god, the syquest drive. That takes me back.

why the fuck do you have a laptop, poorfag?

>2017
>not using a comfy SLI 4K desktop setup with 3 monitors

Not everyone is a socially awkward, basement dwelling NEET shut in like you are Francis.

>not using 640*480 as God intended
Explain yourself CIA NIGGERS

Because I'm fiscally conservative

>4k screen on a laptop
HiDPI is cancer, I want to be able to tell pixels apart and have plenty of space to work on. There is a point where bumping up the resolution is pointless, and I don't want a 30 inch laptop to justify the resolution.

and which laptop has 4K again?

>HiDPI is cancer, I want to be able to tell pixels apart
This.

Lenovo Yoga 910

>I want shimmering in my cgi
fucking leave this world

i gave you a paper that documented the relationship between DPI/PPI and eye strain and fatigue. if you're not going to cite the documented confounder that CRTs introduce that LCDs don't suffer from, then we can have a meaningful conversation about it. otherwise you're just asking me to entertain some bitchy whining about how LCDs are different from CRTs and therefore, nebulously, we can't trust any study that involved CRTs in any way.

Why the fuck doesn't your phone have a 4K screen, poorfag?

because 4k on a 15inch display is mentally retarded

I almost got a 4k screen for my desktop
But then I got a WQHD laptop at work
And everything was ANTS
Now I cant decide what the fuck to buy
