I'd like durable, efficient, productive laptop for heavy development, but I enjoy vidya from time to time. Also making some shitty games sometimes as a hobby. External GPU is not really an option cause I'm not bringing one to a game jam.
What do you recommend?

>buy T440s
>buy Lenovo Pro Dock
>Turns out that DVI and DisplayPort are mutually exclusive

Seriously, what the shit. At least I can use the DP connector on the ThinkPad and the DP or DVI connector on the docking station, but still, this is fucking ridiculous.

>2017
>Dual Monitors using VGA+Digital

Guys I think I went full autistic
>T440s
>Bought 6 cell battery
>Bought IPS 1080p panel

I didn't buy the T50 trackpad because I'm not a super autist and don't use the numb. How did I do?

Gonna hang out with this girl from work later tonight and we might study together. Thinking about bringing my ThinkPad. Which model should I go with and why: X200T, X220T, W520? The W520 probably has the worst battery of the three.

Go with the W520, bigger is better.
She'll probably think you have a big dick too.

But seriously just go with the X220T.

reminder that the t430+420kb is the peak of thinkpads

>Gonna hang out with this girl from work later tonight and we might study together.
are you in uni while working?
why are you so poor?

G-guys?

>T440s
>not T440p
you fucked up

Nah the s gets better battery.

why are you acting like an spoiled brat?
Yes - we see your post, there's no need to bump it. We chose not to respond, for whatever reason.
You are not entitled of an answer.
I hate spoiled cunts like you

Buying a t520 (i5 8gb), wanna get an ssd (and maybe an 8gb stick) what are some cheap (or just reliable) options

There is tons of options for you my man! you only need to provide us with a budget because if you have dosh to burn then buy a p71 and be done for the next 5-8 years

How rude ;_;

Let's say about up to 2600USD, but obviously I don't want to overpay. I'd rather like 15" screen.
I was thinking about P51, but not sure if nvidia quadro won't be overkill for my needs.

Either P50 4k or the P51 under 4k

Go for the p51 then

how do you check if computrace isn't active before buying? I don't want to buy a brick.

>Not swapping the touchpad
You're a special faggot are you

Like I said I'm not a super autist that can't live without using the red nub.

...

I'm in the same boat here.

I swapped the SSD for a 512GB 850 Pro, upgraded the RAM to 12 GB, bought a docking station and I now ordered a T450 trackpad. The clickpad thing really is fucking terrible. At first I thought I could live with it but no. And I don't use the clitmouse, either.

>recommending advanced workstation with GPU for rendering video for some coding and gayming

>T520
Like none of these seem 1080p

I might swap it out later but the screen is the most important thing for me. Hopefully it can get 10+ hours if actual battery time.

>dogshit eye-cancer panel even by TN standards
>not even IPS or FHD
>peak
ecks dee

Can I use a BIOS boot screen without windows on the machine?
I ordered a T420 and I am pretty sure I want pic related.

I have a t420 with gentoo installed, no windblows and I second this question.

I got a package.
Great sticker but I doubt I'll be sticking it onto the Thinkpad. Don't want people knowing I visit this terrible website!

Can't be worse than showing people that you run Windows?

Also, I didn't get a patch dynamic sticker. Not that I wanted to but I feel cheated now

Not with the standard battery it won't. More like 2-3 hours.

I'm sure it's ben asked a million times by now. When are the stickers getting restocked?

Even with 6 cell?

yes check the wiki When does the parsimonious rule render the adjustment?

The standard battery is the 3 cell one. Despite all the hate the T440s is getting on Sup Forums I love this laptop (this is me coming from a 2015 MacBook Pro), I have to admit that the battery life is a fucking joke. Maybe with the fat battery (there are two different models, a 48Wh and a 72Wh or something) it's bearable but iwth the 24Wh 3 cell battery it's just "barely enough".

I really don't understand why Lenovo bothered putting such things as a smartcard reader, sd card reader, 2.5" SSD (m.2 was already a thing back in 2013) etc. in it. that space could have been used for the internal battery.

How many hours does it get with 6 cell external and 3 cell internal? Sup Forums doesn't like the S series for some reason.

Quadro is not that bad for gaming only slightly worse than gtx and he wanted to spend 2600usd

tomshardware.com/reviews/workstation-graphics-card-gaming,3425.html

You don't need Windows but it's a lot easier to do it via Windows.

it's worse for his use cases and costs more

An x220 with i5 2520, 6gb ddr3, 120gb SSD for $160, should I do it lads?

pretty good/average, what about the battery?

Why did you faggots remove the P series from the thread post? P51 owner here. My laptop is better than your garbage can tier T60/X220. Fucking autistic neckbeards collecting old thinkpads, Jesus Christ.

how much did you pay for it? how does it compare to other things in its price range?

900 USD from the lenovo outlet, free shipping

came with the xeon cpu, 16gb, 256gb ssd and an M2200M hehehehehe

"OH HEY GUYS I HAVE THIS SHIT TIER X220 I GOT FOR 200$, I OWN 4 OF THEM!! WHAT A WAY TO SPEND MY MONEY!! THIS ONE I WATCH PORN THIS, THIS ONE I SURF YOUTUBE WITH, THIS ONE...."

fucking neckbeards man, I swear....

alright buddy enjoy your $900 youtube machine
i'll be over here enjoying my $100 youtube machine

What do you use it for?

What is the cheapest Thinkpad with a GPU?
Or MXM?
W500?

Need a laptop for School.
Plan on going with the t420 or maybe the x220. Budget:$200 but would like to spend less. Help are these good choices or would you Sup Forumsuys recommend something different?

Where can I get a MacOS Sierra dmg download so I can make a hackintosh?

Hey Sup Forumsuys, I was here about a week ago asking for some direction to install a clean version of W7Pro, but I am wondering which "Partition scheme and target system type" I would select when using Rufus to create a bootable Flash Drive?

MBR or GPT?

It is an Elitebok 8460p with a 300 gb HDD, and I have a windows product key on the bottom for W7 Pro

...

Use MBR for CSM.

And NTFS.

Any of your choices is recommended here, also windows 10 if you dont intend to program, and ubuntu if you dont know anything about linux.

Where did you get that sticker, friend?

X220 with Chakra/Manjaro. Super comfy

just use this
microsoft.com/en-us/download/windows-usb-dvd-download-tool
like 3 clicks and you're done

W530 vs W530

Are there any really differences between the two vs the keyboard?

I'd say the W530 wins.

>Are there any really differences between the two
one might have stickers or be cleaner than the other one

Are there any thinkpads with an mxm gpu?

yes

>sudo apt get love

my p51 was $4k+

Thanks, I got it up and running!

One last question for anyone who has installed W7 before:

When I typed in the product key during the installation process, there was a box that I left ticked that said "Activate my Windows Product Key when the computer connects to the internet". Is there any chance that after I login to my WiFi I will get some message saying the product key is invalid or something? Or am I already passed that point? Sorry if it's a stupid question, I have just never had to reinstall an OS from scratch before.

Is a W530 for $295 without the ac adapter worth it?

yes it's possible

about average, depends on the other specs

Hey guys

I remember reading a page on the thinkpad wiki that detailed which hardware parts were compatible to which thinkpad (like t410 keyboard can go into a x220, for example), but I can't seem to find the damn page. Do you guys know where it is?

was it worth it?

12gb ram i7 quad core with TARBO 1080 screen nvidia k1000m 180gb ssd

How big is the average battery difference between a C2D Thinkpad and a 2nd gen i5 in hours?

ya that seems like a good deal then, don't expect too much battery life though and you'll need to get one of the big psu's

its alright, so no.

Sup /tpg/

Looking for a dirt cheap laptop for web development on Linux with a lightweight DE and not much software installed. Recommend me something I can easily find online please.

Probably a stupid question, but just to make sure I don't end up wasting money.

I have an X220T. I can use this battery despite it technically being for the X220/X220i right?

ebay.com/itm/New-6-Cell-Battery-fr-Lenovo-ThinkPad-X220-X220i-0A36282-42T4861-42T4862-42T4865-/141650243037?hash=item20fb032ddd:g:mRwAAOSwnbZYGDyH

read the guides, mostly comes down to budget and size

no, you can't use non-tablet batteries

Really? What is the difference?

the hinge is in the way

Battery I posted is a smaller one though.

yes, the hinge on the tablets is still in the way and forced them to design the batteries between the tablet and non-tablets differently

Oh! I got what you mean. Had to remove the battery to see it. Thanks.

fyi dont buy generic chink batteries, spend the extra dough on a real one

t. idiot who bought a "9" cell that was really 6 and cant hold a charge for shit

Anyone know a reliable source to purchase ThinkPads in Canada?

kijiji, craigslist, ebay

I actually bought a fully legit one. Ended up dead. Can't hold a charge.

Was it """"new"""" or new?

What should I do?

New. Still in original box. Unless there is a way to revive a dead battery, it's a paperweight.

I've been asking the same thing, I'm on Windows 7 tho

My touchpad doesn't work either. I'm on a T440P. I bought a replacement touchpad but it's still on it's way

I "rerouted" an T420 that was going to be thrown away by the company. How do I make sure they can't track it?

I'm looking for replacement keys for my x220. The letters A and F have the white bits broken, as well as the left arrow key.

Do I need the specific keys for my model/compatible keyboard models (T410, T420, etc), or will any older keyboard do?

I see lots of replacements for T41, T60, etc that are way cheaper than the compatible keyboards.

Did you cycle it properly? If its old it should be

It won't even charge. Battery charging icon blinks twice or so then goes out. It doesn't even try to charge it and thinks it's at 100%.

Is an R40 for

are you trying to stick a *20 battery in your *30?

No. It's the correct battery for my X220T. Even checked their webpage.

I have both the x220 and the x220t. The x220t uses a completely different shaped battery.

Anyone here knows how to remove the supervisor password for an x230? I know about shorting the chip or something but I need don't know how to remove the black plastic

Look up a teardown video, there are a billion

Best screen upgrade for a t420?
