Dell and HP workstations

>tfw rural kansas and the only thrift in town has nothing but clothes and knickknacks from old people who have died here
Not a single mouse even.

Depends on what I need.
This old shit is real cheap here, on local sales sites, unlike on eBay.

Found a 1TB hard drive for $6, a CM STORM Devastator keyboard for $2.50 and an old 1080p HDMI I think Dell monitor for $30. I keep ALL my Steam games on that hard drive. Maybe I'll put all my Favorited porn vides on it as well.

For me, it's more about the garage and yard sales than the thrift stores or pawn shops. I've gotten lakes of tech for pocket money
>Pre-built PC. Dell with a 3rd gen i7 in it. Screws were completely jammed so I couldn't get it open.
>Manage to get it open at home, someone added a Radeon 6870 to it

Got it for $30 because the owner said "it was their sons before he went and built a new one. The PC turned off one day and never turned on again. Since the screws for the side panel were stripped, they just tossed it. Turns out the OEM power supply didn't have the balls to push the 6870 so it kept turning off. Spent $40 on a good supply and some 24pin adapter and sold the PC for $500.

>Got countless drives of varying capacity for $4-$10 each.
>Got a PS2 based children's learning keyboard. Huge print on wild colored keys. Was a buckle spring board. Sold for $100
>Old school professional PCI soundcard, sold for $60
>2 Radeon 5970's for $20 each. We're probably used for mining before so even realized what mining was because the cards burnt themselves out 2 months later. 4 way xfire was a bit fun for benchmarks for a while.

Living in a tech rich neighborhood is nice sometimes.

This, I can get some Ivy Bridge i5, 4gb ram mini workstations for like $99 in second hand shops. Full size towers are a bit more expensive since you can put gfx cards on them tho, but still like $120-130, and some even come with i7s. Pretty good.

I wish we had thift stores like the US but the best we are few Pawn brokers and CEX. Everything is overpriced but sometimes find some gems. The charity shops sometimes have electronics (CRTs and cables) but it's infrequent and hardly worth looking.

Instead I just go dumpster diving which has been far more lucrative. The town near me has a few business that chuck out good shit. Last haul was 15 mini ITX boards and before that a gayman motherboard loaded with an i7-3820 and 48GB of RAM. Onboard sound is friend so that's the only reason I can think it was disposed off.

I have a cex near me, they sell smashed up iPhones for $1000 like wtf.

Buddy of mine lucked out with some office that was closing down. Bought around 40+ office desktops with 4th gen i5's and i3's. Bought them for $40 each. Office wouldn't sell them with drives in them for business reasons. All in all,. My buddy spent $70 per PC for the desktop itself and refurbed HGST 500GB drives. He was even able to install legitimate versions of windows 7 and MS office because the serial keys were right on the bottom of the desktops.

He made $250 per machine. All he did was list he had close to 50 of these computers and some other office dude bought them wholesale

>I7-3820 and 48GB ram
>Thrown away because of bad audio on board

Shit bigger, a good sound card or even a USB based one is like $25. Why the hell would you throw away that?

Old storage media, for obvious reasons

Wyoming here, same. We don't even have a place to buy used games/consoles here anymore.

Vintage speakers, turntables, silver face receivers and integrated amps, tube amps.

I found a pair of Western electric 755a's in 2 custom built back loaded horn cabinets and a citation 2 tube amp once for $100 total. Fixed the tube amp up, sold it for $2000 on eBay the speakers for $2500.

I'm only assuming that is the reason since it's all I can find wrong with it. I put my old Xonar D2 in it and have been using it since.

rural KS eh? I am in the KC area, and savers thrift store is good hits.

>KC
Other side of the state m8.

So you're closer to CO?

What I find annoying is so many people in my Area wearing CO state flag shirts. Its like yeah we get it.

anything old from IBM
thinkpads, old desktops, accessories, etc

i pick up old components sometimes too because there are a surprising amount of people who look for late 90's hard drives and shit for their 98SE gaymen rigs

all ive got around me are bored housewife antique stores and goodwills, neither of which ever carry anything old and tech related

so usually i get my old shit at the local junk shop, he buys whatever for an estimated scrap value and sells it for a bit more, thats how i got my IBM PS/2 model 30 for 10 bucks

The DUDE WEED LMAO is strong with them. They dont stop here unless they really need to pee at least. This is probably more of a meth town anyways.

Every thrift store near me has some policy that computers always get recycled instead of sold. Presumably someone got data scraped off an old hard drive and sued at some point. Spineless little shits. It's practically worthless to go there, nothing but really shitty monitors and beat-to-hell rubber dome keyboards.

Leavenworth/Lansing area here. Past legends

That is not rural kansas, imo Its more like out of city limits type thing.

also fuck wyandotte.

anything with gigabit ports, Dell stuff I found a power connect 2716 rack mount managed switch for 12 bux, routers that can have dd-wrt flashed to it, stuff with internal storage. I found a WD router with a 1TB hard drive in it for 10 bux, I put the drive in my Thinkpad.

I know that's why I kinda like it here. I'd kill myself if I lived in the shitty parts of Kansas. No offense. I'm not particularly in favor of crowded cities either but it's nice where I'm at.
Seriously agree. I live the opposite way though. We still get the Wyandotte filth spilling over this way though. Leavenworth is pretty shitty actually too.

I am in Johnson county area, and nope I wasn't born here, and I hate every teenager in a new car. I literally think, that is cute you have your GF in the passenger in a car that your parents bought, and you think you're entitled to everything.

A hacked wiiu with all the games on it

I never lived in Johnson County myself. Been there a couple times. Was like down a highway and it was nothing but huge rich houses for miles and miles. I was like holy fuck man. Went to this person's house. Fucking rich white kids high on drugs, boyfriend over N shit. Parents didn't give a fuck. Son was in a 7 day acid-induced psychosis.

Definitely higher income Area. Bet theres sexy fucking girls up there. Did u fuck alotta rich hoes up there?

Used vibrators.

Oh hell yeah

Oh hell no

lol I sold a pair of 6950s for $30 total at a garage sale, just wanted to be rid of them. Used them for mining in the btc early days.

>fuck

LOL theyre stuck up bitches, im a Sup Forums shitposter, There is this cute nerdy girl at starbucks, we talk and snapchat, but to be honest I dont think she likes me the same way.

cameras
old & unique computers
calculators & mechanical calculating devices
portable TVs
video games, electronic games
big, clunky, decades old headphones
I got way too much shit piling up. I originally went in search of video games, but then I would see that toy I used to have (or wanted) as a kid. Then shit that catches your eye just expands from there for various reasons ... thanks to you fuckers I now look at headphones.

One of the podcasts I listen to recently was talking about how much money could be make selling used celebrity vibrators. The one host is a Jew and was practically salivating at the thought of how much Hillary Clintons vibrator would be worth.

Look at whatever.
Sometimes give the vinyls a quick flip through, but they're usually picked pretty clean.
Best score was a huge pair of JBL horns and drivers for $20.

Cassette/open reel tape decks
Walkmans
Old CRT video monitors
anything with BNC plugs on it
Old IBM stuff (anything from PC to Selectrics)
Mechanical keyboards
Logitech M/S34 mice (i collect em)
blank audio cassettes/VHS cassettes
jazz records
speakers

What podcast?

I understand man. Kinda forgot where we were for a second. That's cool though. Just ask her out or something. Have s good night man.

Amplifiers / receivers are the only electronics worth buying from 2nd hand shops or flee markets and, depending on what you get, they are much better sounding and higher quality than new ones. The downside is that you may have to do some cleaning and fixing even though the store claims it works fine.

Gonna buy a second-hand laptop soon, what software should I use to check the condition?

What are the current meme models?
Thinking of getting one and sticking a gpu+ssd in it.

it's always like that lol

>old & unique computers
For example what, explain please?

>anything old from IBM
>thinkpads, old desktops, accessories, etc

I've been at a flea market in the nearby town, there are tons of Thinkpads for sale, about 15-25$ each. What should one look at when buying them?

keyboards. old consoles. hi-fi stuff.

i got one of those powermac g5's for 20 bucks.

I paid like 2,5 $ for Sony DR-45 headphones. They are still good, im using it for 2 years now. I made earpads myself and its okay. Still looking for some amplifiers.

- Thinkpads
- LSI RAID controllers
- iPads and iPhones (for gifts and for myself)

High-end workstation/prosumer systems; PCs, PPC/68k Macs, Suns, HPPA/Itanium, SGI, whatever
Subnotebooks and netbooks
PDAs and older smartphones
Whatever else interests me when I see it. If it was expensive, has some kind of fucking around potential or historical importance I'm all over it.

Everything, if it doesn't work I just scrap it for components and reuse then in electronics projects

We dont really have any 2nd hand shops worth a shit. Usually the only thing they have is womens clothes and books from some hoarders collection that are so old the pages are brown.
As for fleamarkets, I stopped going because they are populated exclusively by goofs that think their shit is collectors edition mint and they charge higher than NIB ebay prices for shit that looks like its flood damaged. Then there are the retards that sell hoards of stuff they buy off of bangood and think they can get away with charging people walmart prices for stuff like a sunny pesp preloaded with 1000 games from the nes and atari days. (actually saw the last one in person, guy wanted $250 USD for it)

And if you think that is bad, you should see the used car market here. Ive seen people roll a car(shit 95-02 suv) multiple times and have a price of "2000 firm"

Old school workstations, same as mentioned, especially PowerPC/68k Macs and Sun towers

Retro consoles and handhelds

I run the Smash Bros society at university so I pick up any decent CRTs, Wiis/Wii Us GameCubes and N64s I can find with accessories and aren't overpriced - the university reimburses me if it's reasonable

This.
I don't get how newfagos on Sup Forums believe that the eBay prices are the real prices of those things and that they are actually that hard to come by.

The local used store sells mostly junk at really high prices. 15$ for a small shitty crt and useless computers for at least 30$ without hard drive.

keyboards, monitors and TVs, calculators, receivers, radios, DAPs, consoles, speakers
In the past few years it's become increasingly difficult to find anything of value at my local Goodwill, they're probably throwing anything that seems remotely valuable on eBay now.

Bin diving is illegal in the UK, just a warning.

I have done it myself, but yeah, watch out.

CRT monitors with a horizontal scanning rate of at least 100khz, CRT TVs with component or an HD CRT even, S-VHS decks, cassette decks, turntables, cassettes of metal albums, computer towers, laptops, blank media like CD and DVD, computer parts, that sort of shit. Bonus points if it has a VU meter on it.

Old clocks. Sad how shit new clocks are. Everyone spent so much time making soap blocks that blind you, and throw shitty projections on the ceiling to stop and ask if they should.

That shit probably needs more power than my computer.
I bought a """wood""" clock from AliExpress. It looks nice and werk with consuming next to no power(tried to measure it, but couldn't)
