well, i looked around, and found evidence "G-Man" is officially his character name, just not the meaning for it
he's listed as "gman" in the half-life 2 voice actor credits, and also mentioned as G-Man in "half-life 2: raising the bar" (pictured)
he's never named in half-life1/2, but i imaging the popular usage of "gman", derived from the filename from hl1 (monster_gman) caused valve to refer to him as that officially
