Sup Forums is shit, can we have an Irish traditional music thread?
Why do jigs usually have less ornamentation than reels?

Paddies don't even know that their traditional music is so popular amongst our reconstuction groups.
Very depressing music. Always sung at pubs but I try to stay away from it.
why is it depressing?
All songs about people getting shot starving to death or leaving the country on their own.
what about fiddle tunes?

Daily reminded black Americans stole our dancing.

COME OUT YE BLACK AND TANS
Literally no , just chatting out your ass about somthing you know nothing about
Irish folk/ trad music is great OP, If you ever get the chance go to the fleadh- musicians come from all over the world to take park in ad hoc sessions and the official competition itself is very good
Folk music has a sub genre called rebel music which can be a little much for some , but I really enjoy it myself and its great music for a sing song while drinking
I dont know if this i generally true. Depends on the preformer
t. fiddler
Do you use ornaments more often? Also, how many tunes do you know?

Ornamentiation is an essential part of all fiddling. Would be boring without
Anyway, where/how did you learn the fiddle, how good are you at it?

Call me a plastic paddy, but I fucking loving Irish music to a point where I now have uillean pipes and am considering moving to co. Clare.
Learned swedish fiddling from my father and recordings and listening. Started learning irish fiddling a couple of years ago by playing along recoedings and reading the internets mostly. Im fairly advanced playing swedish and norwegian music. Planning to try and earn nataional fiddler award next year. Id say im intermediate level irish fiddler. The bowing and ornamentation in irish is completly differwbt from swedish so it takes a while to not fall back to swediah bowing
Also, to answer your question opie, It really depends on a player and location. Some pubs have groups that are very structured and have rules on ornamentation, while other pubs its a more "Open mic" sort of deal with the session and anything goes (as long as your not being a tool).
How big is the irish music scene in the phillipines?
...
insignificant
sad
kek what the fuck are you on about?
Some Irish music is sad but most Irish music is upbeat and about shooting people, rebel songs and banter.
My da plays in four different sessions a week, he plays button accordion with his friends.
From Thursday to Sunday they go four differnt pubs, play music and drink free drink.
Then every so often they go to the fleadh cheoil for a weekend.
>Irish music
>Depressing
Makes me laugh, Irish music is all about having a good time and drinking, it is about keeping something alive and bringing people together for a dance.
Is this true, I have heard Irish music is popular in Europe but I have never heard much about it.
The fleadh cheoil is usually full of europeans.
>Is this true, I have heard Irish music is popular in Europe but I have never heard much about it.
It is in my country . Have you heard about Orthodox Celtics ?
Celts*
No, tell me about them it sounds interesting.
Thats pretty cool.
