Was the AMD Vega the worst release ever?

again delayed, how did they fuck up this badly?

Intel fucked up the stratix 10 even worse. Bad shit happens sometimes when you're making new chips.

It's probably manufacturing issues.
To fit a standard die measure avaiñable and such.
Hopefully in the future there will just be one standard.

Remember that the Vega actually sells at a loss with those HBM prices

>Remember that the Vega actually sells at a loss with those HBM prices
do people unironically believe this

Bad decisions made at the CEO level.
Yes, let's make cards with hyper expensive memory because our previous cards weren't memory limited at all anyway

>avaiñable

pedro pls go

it's a new architecture, companies have historically had problems with new designs at the start, not always but it's common

Vega is a really good workstation card

I gave up and got 1070, feels wrong and last time I got 770 it didn't end that well

they don't sell at a lost but they arn't makeing much per unit off of them

>HBM is expensive
why do people so easily believe in anything that curlyhair says?

So glad I pulled the plug on AMD GPUs

Hopefully a die shrinks and Navi/mcm and 3d stacking will help.

In the mean time I am extremely happy with my 1080 oc at 2ghz and 1600x

It's still GCN though, just with a bunch of other shit added on to make some kind of Frankenstein GPU. It's still performing like an overclocked Fury X.

2900 series was the worst

Yeah I hated that card it was good for all of a year but even the 4gb oc windforce version I had was slow as shit even when I got it in 2014

Worst power consumption but in 2013-2014 nothing compared to it
390x was the most pointless GPU ever

500watt+ power draw in dx12 games and 750watt psu required when a oc 980 would cream it

well, I loved it while it worked, than maxwell happened and it stopped working

is it? source? i'm interested in finding out more

they are idiotic amd already told the press that vega 64 and vega 56 has different heights why they still are making it a mess?

it's not, vega is pretty cool as hardware
drivers aren't working and critical features disabled
if you need GPU right now, don't wait get a 1070/1080
vega is a black box even a month after release

Why do they have different heights?

I don't need a gpu i have a 1080ti, as a company i do like amd more however they haven't delivered anything i like yet

I skipped Maxwell the 980ti was equal a stock 1080 at launch then Pascal pulled ahead.

I gather it aged alot better than kepler obviously
Ryzen is goat

not worth getting over my 5820k

big driver update is rumored for october. they probably delayed vega to release it with primitive shader in to prevent retesting the custom cards which anyway wouldn't happen. tech press is shit. we are going to wait at least to mid octobre till november

DDR4 3000mhz+ is nice but yeah keep it for as long as u want.

I wouldn't touch new Intel CPUs if u paid me.

They where goat back in the 1366 and 2011 days but shit the bed hard with a new socket/CPU each yeah no backwards compatibility

>early Ryzen adopters are beta testers for AM4 BIOS
>early Vega adopters are beta testers for new GPU features
Can AMD not afford to test their own software before shipping anymore?

They're selling at a loss because of 3 main things.

1) Their performance is mediocre against 1070
2) HBM is new
3) Nand shortage

Add in those things and your "low profit margin" becomes loss

I am not talking about 290x I meant the HD 2900 series the biggest job of all times

Another Massive Disaster

videocardz.com/72712/amd-partners-are-still-waiting-for-rx-vega-gpus-for-their-designs

vega 64 was diffused in taiwan and 56 in china if i remember correctly

This is retarded, both of them can read the spec sheet in Chinese.

diffused
diffused...

tomshardware.com/news/amd-vega-custom-graphics-cards-problems,35514.html

>MSI’s response surprised us. The company traditionally offers re-engineered graphics cards with custom PCB designs for all high-end GPU platforms, but it appears to be skipping the Vega lineup. A company representative told us that MSI “won’t be making a custom card anytime soon,” but could offer no additional information.

>Although a Gigabyte rep said it’s likely that the company would be producing a custom Vega card, they would not or could not confirm with 100% certainty that it will.

WHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

So what are you saying they are diffusing it on different process? Also, I'm 99% sure you're wrong anyway when you use that word so obsessively. GloFo has no fabs in China. They have fabs in USA, Singapore and Germany.

Yes they may be packaged in different locations, but the fucking specification for packaging doesn't need to be different between two identical chips.

wat?
but msi showed a card 2 day ago?
WTF LOL

whatever float your boat pretty sure you dont even know what im talking about to begin with

This fake ass '''''''''''custom''''''''''''?

I don't, but that's through no fault of my own. You're incapable of articulating what you're talking about, because A) your technical terminology is incorrect and B) you probably don't know what you're talking about.

Hahahahaha

Oh well I guess we can hope the liquid cooled and aftermarket air coolers are made soon

morpheus 2 works on vega no problem
waterblocks are announced long time ago, some are sold I think
PCB is solid, go for it if you want it

What about the cooling for the hbm?

>go for it if you want it
Not him but: $$$

it's fake problem
there isn't an issue with HBM 1. you almost don't need to cool it 2. thermal paste makes enough contact
something else is happening with partners, who knows what, probably simple deficit of chips

That's sad.

With time Vega could have been good but the power and thermals are too much.

Maybe in time it will recover but I doubt it.

Mcm will stomp all over this anyway

this explains a few things...
1)the over the top made pcb that amd did for vega
2)the rubycon vrm's
3)the not so shitty refrence cooler for once

...

>26.08mm * 19.36mm
good
>inch^2
triggered

>3)the not so shitty refrence cooler for once
but it's same bad cooler they used for years that still throttles v64

well its not really considering that its a massive improvement from 290x one..

>3d stacking
yeah that'll happen soon
what are you on?

WAS rumoured for october
AIB cards getting delayed to november probably means the driver wont be ready before then either

stop swallowing steve's baseless fud

3d drugs ofc

funny, then you could wait vor Vega PRO which is releasing december

It is the same as GF100. Nvidia gambled heavily on general compute being the future for big GPU designs in 2010s and it appears that are on mark.

People are retarded.

Oh children, did you forget the (in)famous nv30?
Vega10 has absolutely nothing to do with compute.
At all.

They are using vapor chamber now. the past reference coolers were shitty heatpipe specials with a loud and cheap fan.

kek

Vega 56 is super good tho and drivers will only make it better

Proof that they are selling at a loss?

Hi Steve!

Geforce FX isn't ATI though

>40 micrometers
calling bullshit. Got a custom cooler (EK waterblock) on an unmolded Samsung one and HMB temps are fine.

>super good
yeah...

5mins in wattman and its better then 1080

I agree but its tough to get one at MSRP though...

AMD is the early access of the hardware industry.

Depends on where you live i guess. I had no issues getting it

>Leather jacket man to make announcemtn mid October.
Coincidence? I don't fucking think so.

Apple has first dibs on all the Vega's.

I'm in the states. I tried to pick one up on launch day and they all sold out nearly instantly.

Since then, I've never seen them listed at MSRP again.

I think NVIDIA is content to allow Pascal to ride it all out, letting Volta arrive at its own leisurely pace. They've just stopped caring.

Volta is bigger dies.

GTC is their usual meme event.

I'm thinking volta is gonna be spendy if the die size is as rumored. Like $1K for their Ti version.
