Whats the best laptop I can get for university, I don't have a maximum price, but I'd prefer to have it less than £1000. I want something I can use to watch films and emulate games. I don't need an absolute power machine but would like something good. Was thinking of an older macbook

Also would like a decent amount of storage, at least 500GB and a 1080p screen

just buy a thinkpad x1 carbon

Shameless self bump

macbook pro

Another shameless self bump

Mac pro

seems quite pricey for a model with a bigger HD
These seem like the safe option, any tips for buying an older model?
this wasnt even me haha

the absolute state of Sup Forums

if your poor get a used macbook air (no older than 2013 otherwise expect shit battery due to no haswell battery gains). though if you can spend to or a bit above your limit and want something that will have even better longevity look at the current version of the 12" macbook

X230, new 9-cell batt, SSD, 8 or 16 GB RAM. Try to find one with an IPS screen or upgrade it yourself if you're adventurous. Run Linux

A good chromebook with a replacement ssd and flashable firmware to remove chromeOS and install Linux.

I might get the top end Macbook Pro from 2016 or 2016, but im not sure where to get a good deal on it

academic discount can get a 10-15% discount. otherwise i'd recommend looking at apple's own refurb store. reconditioned by apple and sold with warranty

agreed, apple refurb is best deal. never bought a new apple computer.

apple.com/shop/browse/home/specialdeals/mac

All the ones on the refurb store are the newest models. I want a model with actual USB ports

why not just go for the TB3/USB-C? I get dongles, yes, but in less than a year everything will be USB-C.

I understand that, but those models are a little cheaper too and I'm not really prepared to pay £2,000 for a model with 500GB HD

Muh nigga

I need a small notebook/tablet with keyboard for school stuff.
Should I go with
Lenovo Miix 300-10IBY
or
VisionBook 9Wi Pro

$200 or less Thinkpad from ebay.

Anything else is a waste of money.

>iPad Pro
Out of my budget

that's dumb. you're never going to use those ports anyways. everything is wireless or on the cloud.
when i bought my first macbook air in 2011 i bought a shitload of dongles (ethernet, vga, usb hub etc) but ended up never using them. ever. sat in my fucking laptop messenger bag untouched for years. because there's always a better way to do things that doesn't involve external devices. fuck i hardly use USB sticks on my desktop. haven't in years. i permanently keep windows ISOs on them for whenever i need to inevitably reinstall Windows on a family members malware ridden PC. on my mac? i use airdrop to move files around and dropbox and my own file server for that shit.

you don't need a laptop for university.

2017 iPad and a $20 bluetooth keyboard. Not even shitting. It's a great device.

That's still out of my budget

Thinkpad X-/T-2XX/3XX/4XX (tablet would be a bonus). You need a mobile computer to make .doc, .xls, and .pdf, and "hello world" programs if youre a CS, nothing more. what til after school to build a gay-mer, 3d porn rendering desktop; you don't need one, especially not now

underrated

...

>quite literally 3h of battery life
>chinkshit

cuckbook air, not even memeing

>just buy dongles
>you won't need USBs at college

Holy shit fuck off.

Is a nexbook flex 11 windows 10 even feasible to be good with its specs or does that shit need to go in the trash?
>64gb of space
>2gb of ram (holy shit)
>Intel Atom Z3735F processor with 1.83ghz clock rate
Ebay sells then for 100 bucks a pop.

name one use case where you're going to need to plug shit into your laptop frequently enough to justify intentionally buying older shit. for reference i'm a fucking developer and occasionally fill in for devops and have managed fine without

Acer has some pretty decent laptops with 1050s in them for about 1k.

>xps 13 with better chassis and keyboard
>shit specs
>just as expensive
fuck dell

Half off, business line is better anyway

Sabre 15

thinkpad t420 desu

I'm not doubting that, but fucking core m

thinkpad x200

Is Umax VisionBook 10Wi Pro good enough for Office stuff, HL1 and porn webms?
