Why is Mozilla doing this?

Diversity is important and Firefox 57 is an important step forwards for that goal.

But they're REDUCING diversity. A fuckton of addons are being removed. The browser will be fully chrominized.

So what's wrong with it?
"normies news" seem to like it.

They're removing the XUL framework completely. Addons won't be anywhere near as powerful as they once were.

For some unfathomable reason, the UX team hates the community and wants to be just like Chrome.

Figures that an alt-rightist wouldn't understand.

Nice FUD there. XUL were a security nightmare and couldn't be sandboxed.
Firefox's WebExtensions contain far more APIs than Chrome's, and developers are welcome to make their own APIs.

Disregard alarmist fud. The botnet wants you to use a proprietary browser.

use waterfox, they're keeping support for XUL indefinitely

fuck off chrome shill

Just let the XUL users keep using their vulnerable browsers. They probably still use Windows XP on their Compaq PC with a CRT monitor and dont have a scroll wheel on their ball mouse.

chrome doesn't have XUL either
use waterfox or pale moon's basilisk

fuck off chrome shill

>Chrome shill
>Firefox 57+ = closed source Chrome
>Firefox 0-56 = open source vulnerable XUL using monero mining software

REEEEE

INSTALL CHROME FAGGOTS!!!

To improve the browser

fuck off chrome shill
ikr, fucking shills
fuck off chrome shill

webextensions leaks info like bitches.

I've never found any legacy extensions using mining software but I've already found 2 web-extensions doing that.

this is by far the worst update they've ever released, every addon is fucked and it's unstable as shit. I keep having to restart FF because my memory usage climbs to 4 go in image intensive websites

all i use is ublock. what are u autists bitching about now?

Firefox nightly is at its best right now. Dumb frog poster

Probably to make DRM easier to swallow down the road.

"improve" for them means "reduce maintenance/bug-fixing work, limit ability of users to change how the browser looks and works to make the UX designers happier"

neither of these are improvements for the users, however. The first one doesn't matter to users, its something the devs worry about so users don't have to, the second one is a detriment, not an improvement.

i like how fast new firefox is
it consumes way less CPU than chrome, while having much smoother scrolling ( no framedrops ) than chrome

but the extensions are fucked up
right now it's impossible to replace that buttugly newtab page with your own startpage ( unless it's just a barebones html )

>there are people who have smooth scrolling turned on
absolutely disgusting

smooth scrolling is great when it's, you know, actually smooth.

looks nice and helps the eyes track the shifting content, without having to search where did that line you were just reading jump to.

Who firefox 54 here?

Who 43?

>use waterfox, they're keeping support for XUL indefinitely

So it's always going to be an exploit-heavy joke indefinitely?
I'll pass. Hopefully Firefox evolves past it.

Reporting in. No fucking way I'm updating. I'll take a vulnerable browser over a cucked browser.

diversity turns good programs into literal shit, appfluid as one might call it

>people defending firefox 57+ are chrome shills
¿qué?

Give me fully featured WebExt alternatives for following extensions and I'm switching.

addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/lmnpop/
Pops elements as separate windows, useful for example on /f/.
addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/liveclick/
For me the best way how to keep track of sparsely updated RSS feeds in browser.
addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/context-menu-image-saver/
Mostly because of ctrl+rmb clicking an image to save it to specified folder anywhere on PC.
addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/undo-closed-tabs-button/
Much more comfortable to choose which tab to reopen instead of opening all of them to get to the one you want.
addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/cookies-manager-plus/
To occasionally edit cookies, obviously.
addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/simple-locale-switcher/
Sometimes I just need to switch Firefox's locale.

None of those are WebExt compatible and if you look at their pages, you'll see that some of them despite devs' efforts can't be ported. The WebExt API is lacking lots of useful features which these extensions use and which FF devs don't want to implement.
