I've been using Defender for 3 months now and ran Malwarebytes today. No virus found. Does that mean Defender isn't actually as bad as people say or Antivirus are unnecessary memes?

Literally every time someone asks about antivirus here, people respond with "Common sense," sometimes combined with Firejail.

>using antivirus software
cuck

Malwarebytes is bad,OP. As a hobbyist ratter, even basic obfuscation scripts can make your stager UD for 90% AVs. Even their realtime shit is useless. Not trying to shill, just speaking from experience, kaspersky is the only one which detects stiff constantly. Avast is good for realtime scans too but not very for with pre-exec stuff

windows defender within windows 10 is quite good actually. I run Malwarebytes alongside with it.

Wait for 15 min user.. Leme make a webm.

How to secure your computer:

Step 1: Unplug it from the internet
Step 2: Don't let anyone else touch it
Step 3: Don't plug strange USB's you find laying around into it

What you using? I've always used poorfag freetard shit but recently came into some money, any reccomendations?

none of them they are all a scam

if you want effective network and computer security you basically need to learn this shit for yourself. You can't just run a program and have it do everything for you.

Use kaspersky's free dns service.

Presuming you're using linux, chkrootkit and common sense are all you need. Firejail and NoScript if you want to be extra safe.

>I've not been retarded for 3 months now and ran Malwarebytes today. No virus found. Does that mean not being retarded isn't actually as bad as people say or that healthy minds are unnecessary memes?

>least effort porn downloads from the shadiest file hosts that spawn a million popunders and redirect nonsense
>streaming on the shittiest sports streaming sites
>never had any antivirus or antimalware pick up anything

I honestly don't know whether I'm magically clean or all antivirus is just useless.

Its me, I haven't used windows in 3 years and won't recommend anyone on it. If you still insist, I would say kaspersky any day. All AVs provide a backdoor for their governments. It on you to decide wheter you want a Chinese hacker on your PC or a gov rootkit.

Edit* Haven't used windows as a primary OS
I like to torture my win 10/8/7 VMs from occasionally

>powershell
This is where you wincucks lose

>powershell
Nobody uses that crap.

I quit using antivirus in 2005 and never looked back. My computer is twice as fast as anyone I know because their paranoia protection is hogging resources. I do a scan once every two years, but no fucking way am I running av constantly on my machines.
in more than 10 years, had one minor virus that was found by ccleaner scan

it's default on W10, command prompt is legacy now
also powershell is better

Powershell is crap. Nobody uses it.

they pretty much use exactly the same databases
nothing will protect you from something very new and strong, something weak you can clean anyway

WD is literally "good enough". There's actually a guy from jewgle's project zero that approves it. Doesn't mean much, but still more trustworthy than most plebs in Sup Forums. Also, if you happen to be at least somewhat intelligent and don't click on each retarded ad you stumble upon then WD is all you will ever need when it comes to AV's.

PS is garbage.

>hobbyist ratter
I've always been interested in making malware. Any tips to really get into it? I'm a good programmer and am comfortable with every mainstream language with a preference for C.

Powershell is really nice :3

The terminal emulator is real crap though. I use cmder instead.

>No virus found.
WD is not the best soluion.
I installed some random cracked games and programs with WD on, scanned it with Hitmanpro : nothing.
System was slow with heavy CPU load.
Got MBAM and found some malware and registry keys, I deleted them.
CPU back to low and PC is crisp and snappy again.

>PS is garbage.
and what's wrong with it?

Just buy a Mac. They don't get viruses. I am not even shilling. It's not worth the time or the effort to write a virus for something that is such a small share of the market so there are hardly any viruses.

uBlock is probably the best protection nowadays.

It's called not being a retard and know what you're downloading and executing.

>nobody uses it
95%of my pentesting modules rely on it. It makes owning just too easy

Because that's the best answer.
I'm a malware analyst IRL and I don't even run an antivirus at home.

Check out the eBook "grey_hat_csharp"
Before it, try playing around with some of the popular frameworks and see how stuff works. I'd recommend starting with metasploit,psempire,chaos,etc..
Try to lurk forums. If you're interested in windows exclusively, start learning power shell.

>works at windows defender

I stopped using anti virus software back when I went to Windows 2000 from ME.

I would occasionally scan my Windows install with some AV software, and never find anything serious.

The only time I had a virus that required some repair was when I let my friend jailbreak his iPhone, and the toddler clicked on a fake download link.

Common Sense, Current Year Edition is the best thing out there.

WD is unironically the best AV. I'm not sure if this is 100% true but I remember reading somewhere that they're the ones who share their database to other AV companies on a daily basis. I also remember some guy here running a test a few years ago on a VB where he ran thousands of viruses and checked which AV catches the most and that managed to be WD or whatever it used to be called back then

Guide to winblows 10 security, 2017 edition
1. use brain.exe
2. use MsMpEng.exe (WD)
3. use Jewgle Chrome or SJWzilla Firecucks, the rest are placebo for security
4. install a fucking ad blocker (uBO, the rest are shiet, adnauseam is not very security oriented)
seriously guys, how can you stand the ad bloat in its current form?
5. update your fucking system
6. run malwarebytes once in a while

Done. Chances of being cucked by malware with this setup are just about the same as being eaten by a polar bear in southern Europe.

> Signature based AV
lol

> Not using any AV
lol. If you get pwnded, you'd wish you had something. Having common sense stops a majority of attacks until you download legit software that was compromised. See the recent compromise of CCleaner. Or if someone with a compromised system connects to your network
and the malware spreads to your systems through zero day exploits.

Y'all need to learn about cyber security so you could better protect yourselves.

>Disabling av and updates
>Still using 7
Based retard

>UAC Disabled
That's how you spot the brainlet

>See the recent compromise of CCleaner
Name a single AV that was able to stop this malware until it was found by CCleaner devs themselves
Also name a single harmed home user's computer by this malware

>Or if someone with a compromised system connects to your network
and the malware spreads to your systems through zero day exploits

Securing one's network goes under the "common sense" category, besides, how in the actual fuck do you think that an AV would be able to stop a completely new 0day ? No such thing exists, but neither do hyper-advanced 0days on computers of one's brainlet friends.

>Y'all need to learn about cyber security
Unless the NSA targets one's network specifically, which is (((quite))) unlikely unless you happen to be a well known terrorist (in which case it's already useless to try and defend yourself unless you physically disconnect your devices from the internet) there's no real reason to worry about "muh cybersecurity", except for paranoid sperg niggers.

"It's really a waste of mental energy to get caught up in trying to prevent the remotely possible. A better way is to focus on avoiding the probable." - user

Guide to Winblows 10 security 2017 edition:
1. unistall Windows 10 install Ubuntu
2. sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade on the terminal
3. If you need Windows-only program run W10 in a VM

b-but
but that's not winblows security
how do you want to play vidya without any loss of performance like this ? GPU passthrough won't cut it completely

>Name a single AV that was able to stop this malware until it was found by CCleaner devs themselves

Piriform didn't, they were notified by Avast, who were notified by an obscure Israeli security company.

Note that Piriform has recently merged with Avast, hence this "accident" reeks of a publicity stunt, one with a price.

If I were you, I'd backup your latest installer of CCleaner and stick to that indefinitely.

CCleaner is just an example of how to be infected by malware from trusted sources and software.

You got me with securing one's network.

Zero days can be used to gain access and deliver a payload where AV can stop that payload from being executed. Zero days can also be stopped with machine learning, which is where AV is heading.

Can I delete thes contents of these?
>C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Definition Updates
>C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans

They are 1GB huge together. I assume the first keeps old updates and the second old scans?

You do realize my PC is up to date, right?

>having user account cucking enabled
Good boi (;

>CCleaner is just an example of how to be infected by malware from trusted sources and software.
Very well, but it's not really a valid one since no AV's could protect against it anyway.

>Zero days can be used to gain access and deliver a payload where AV can stop that payload from being executed. Zero days can also be stopped with machine learning, which is where AV is heading.
AFAIK every modern AV uses machine learning at this point, some do it better, some worse, but there will always be at least some exploits that none of them will be able to catch. Although, these are rare. Too rare to create a concern about one's windows security. There are some rather unfortunate incidents, like opening a spam .dox which is able to break through word's security, yet could have been stopped by exploit blockers of some AV's, but again, these are scarce. Also, securing one's computer against .dox exploits in crucial environments like government organizations can be done - most, if not all of these exploits can be stopped by an external sandbox app, like Sandboxie, which kind of falls under the Common Sense category. Yet this is purely hypothetical, an average user won't ever get infected by a spam email with a malicious 0-day attachment, since one usually doesn't need to open them anyway.

don't delete these omg
run CCleaner instead if you want to free up some space

>malwarebytes
>2017

cuck fucking cuck

only boomers get malware
