t. Zealous C nigger

Name one (1) text editor that's half as aesthetic as Atom. I'll wait.

vscode is better than atom in every single way.

Vim

t. too dumb to learn anything besides javascript

I avoid Electron like the plague. Sadly had to help develop an Electron and Angularjs based app not long ago. I was so fucking close to resigning right then and there.

Vim > Atom > Geany

>I avoid Electron like the plague, except I don't because I'm a poorfag code monkey with no bargaining power who'll take whatever bitch jobs I can get

In my defense, it was something created by a third party under no supervision. After going over budget and missed deadlines, the source code was brought in house and as the lead dev I had to fix the mess.

what is so bad about electron?

Why is it so hard for modern developers to not write everything in Javascript?

becouse freetards and fags want linux and mac ports

Couldn't they just use like SDL or Qt though?

waste of resources

>avoid using hipster bloatware
Will do, senpai

>apps

Actually it's an efficient use of resources because the team doesn't have to hire a bunch of people to work on """""native""""" platforms.
Not that any of you ever had jobs and would know about anything beyond MUH ELEKKKTRON XD

When I log into my Xenix system with my 110 baud teletype, both vi
*and* Emacs are just too damn slow. They print useless messages like,
'C-h for help' and '"foo" File is read only'. So I use the editor
that doesn't waste my VALUABLE time.

Ed, man! !man ed

ED(1) UNIX Programmer's Manual ED(1)

NAME
ed - text editor

SYNOPSIS
ed [ - ] [ -x ] [ name ]
DESCRIPTION
Ed is the standard text editor.
---

Computer Scientists love ed, not just because it comes first
alphabetically, but because it's the standard. Everyone else loves ed
because it's ED!

"Ed is the standard text editor."

And ed doesn't waste space on my Timex Sinclair. Just look:

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root 24 Oct 29 1929 /bin/ed
-rwxr-xr-t 4 root 1310720 Jan 1 1970 /usr/ucb/vi
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root 5.89824e37 Oct 22 1990 /usr/bin/emacs

Of course, on the system *I* administrate, vi is symlinked to ed.
Emacs has been replaced by a shell script which 1) Generates a syslog
message at level LOG_EMERG; 2) reduces the user's disk quota by 100K;
and 3) RUNS ED!!!!!!

"Ed is the standard text editor."

Let's look at a typical novice's session with the mighty ed:

golem> ed

?
help
?
?
?
quit
?
exit
?
bye
?
hello?
?
eat flaming death
?
^C
?
^C
?
^D
?

---
Note the consistent user interface and error reportage. Ed is
generous enough to flag errors, yet prudent enough not to overwhelm
the novice with verbosity.

"Ed is the standard text editor."

Ed, the greatest WYGIWYG editor of all.

ED IS THE TRUE PATH TO NIRVANA! ED HAS BEEN THE CHOICE OF EDUCATED
AND IGNORANT ALIKE FOR CENTURIES! ED WILL NOT CORRUPT YOUR PRECIOUS
BODILY FLUIDS!! ED IS THE STANDARD TEXT EDITOR! ED MAKES THE SUN
SHINE AND THE BIRDS SING AND THE GRASS GREEN!!

When I use an editor, I don't want eight extra KILOBYTES of worthless
help screens and cursor positioning code! I just want an EDitor!!
Not a "viitor". Not a "emacsitor". Those aren't even WORDS!!!! ED!
ED! ED IS THE STANDARD!!!

TEXT EDITOR.

When IBM, in its ever-present omnipotence, needed to base their
"edlin" on a UNIX standard, did they mimic vi? No. Emacs? Surely
you jest. They chose the most karmic editor of all. The standard.

Ed is for those who can *remember* what they are working on. If you
are an idiot, you should use Emacs. If you are an Emacs, you should
not be vi. If you use ED, you are on THE PATH TO REDEMPTION. THE
SO-CALLED "VISUAL" EDITORS HAVE BEEN PLACED HERE BY ED TO TEMPT THE
FAITHLESS. DO NOT GIVE IN!!! THE MIGHTY ED HAS SPOKEN!!!

I wonder how much electricity has been wasted because of this type of thinking.

Fuck you, I like my electron apps. I think it's the best thing to ever happen to linux. We finally have modern cloud-based software instead of the autistic garbage you C developers shit out.

>we finally have web pages that don't integrate nicely into our browsers
I don't get it. Why would you want that? Never mind, I forgot that all modern Linux users are mindless SystemD drones.

Are you running a dinosaur pc or somehting?

this

Sublime Text

also if you choose your editor regarding aesthetics mainly you actually deserve to edit your text in a fucking web browser, so good choice

Why should I have to buy a new laptop just to run these gay "apps"

just like you. must be why people avoid you as well

>get new pc cause 2GB RAM is not enough to do basic text editing

First, electron has nothing to do with GNU/Linux distributions or Linux kernel. Secondly with that "muh looks before function" proves you're just a macfag, but somehow poorer than them. Sad! Or I'm eating some tasty tasty bait

>Atom
>325-430 MB
>Sublime Text
>~5–8 MB
It's funny how people don't see a problem with this.

>Sad!
Get back to work Mr. President.

This. Some extra ram usage is well worth it.

Looks like it ripped off vscode

I non ironically prefer ed.
Sam is also great if you have graphics

I know how to use ed, but why do you prefer it over vi? It's a lot easier to see what you're working on.

faggot hipsters don't know how to use such arcane frameworks

So? I don't give a single fuck about dev time efficiency, no end user should. Electron apps are half-assed resource hungry pieces of shit.

>he likes electron

holy fucking shill

edlin > ED

I'd use Sublime if it wasn't proprietary/trialware, as I'm sure most people would.

You faggots can continue building shitty and ugly software that is capable of running on your poorfag machines as everyone else embraces the cloud as the future.

Mainframes delivering content we have no control over as a service to our dumb terminals equipped with dank meme UIs is the future I want.
I'm doing *my* part!

It doesn't matter what I want. Its what consumers want and you have to embrace it.

Good wage cuck.
Remember, the CEO needs a new Yacht

>use rtorrent
>small and efficient, utilizes few resource
>rutorrent uses php, but thats ok, clean and tiddy UI
>someone comes with an improvment
>programs the UI in fucking node.js (flood)
>just fuck up my shit famalam
Same applies for electorrent, cant wait for the shit to die

You could use Qt which is just as simple with JS QML and HTML and not waste of RAM and CPU like Electron

I'm just followin' orders, massa, dun look at me, I ain't the problem, I'm just an enabler defending the paradigm of free market consumer behavior while simultaneously discouraging consumer behavior divergent from what I perceive as the righteous majority LAAAAAAAAWDY I BEEN
SWEATIN
out here all mawnin I don't wanna start no trouble just tryna tell *breathes*
you
*breathes*
which way the wind's blowin! whoooo!

Hiw the fuck is this even a problem? Its consumer software for fucks sake.

>Hyper
>A terminal emulator written in HTML, JS & CSS
>It's not a joke project

Kill me now.

That's true, and a reasonable compromise for certain types of programs.
However, creating a full-fledged text editor or anything else that requires responsiveness, low RAM usage & speed is just stupid.

>ELEKKKTRON
>KKK

wtf I love electron now

it's trivial to "crack"

this desu senpai

>apps
KYS

>unironically use rutorrent
Have you ever heard of gnu screen?

underrated

captcha: beware 2017

kek
did not see that pasta in a long time

Is this possibly the worst idea ever?

I hate the mere IDEA of Electron.

Who the fuck thought this was good?

Lazy fuck devs.

this but unironically

I am gonna start a company to produce a javascript hardware accelerator which all desktop will require by 2020 to keep running all these electron-wares.

How much do you think I will make? Trillions?

Atom came before VSCode.

They're both based on Electron.

Name one (1) feature that this text editors have implemented that hasn't been around the last 20 years I'll wait.

Post your favorite electron apps

My list is missing Deezloader and KeeWeb

Package repository comes built-in.

Built-in realtime Markdown Preview.

emacs has this feature since 2012

not using the much superior org-mode syntax

CSS-based customization. :)

be slow as shit

>sublime text 'version number' license github

free license keyt

regresion

granted

Use XFCE mousepad. It's ten times better.

>waiting for files to open

>not having RAM available for other important applications

How is a multiplexer connected with a web UI ?
You use screen to create a background process for rtorrent tho.

tail -f on a 2 GB log file is what will kill you

>start reading the file from end
It's grep, sed etc that will kill you.

it crashes with the yes command

Now let's see vim on that list.
Then let's see ed on that list.

> Not optimizing the final product

Software """""""""""Engineering""""""""""""

VSCode is actually quite fast for an electron app.

Why avoid? What is electron?

Idk, man. Vscode is the mozilla Firefox of text editors. Slow and laggy as fuck.

VSCode isn't coded by complete retards at least

this

atom=mozilla >=57
vscode=edge

Electron basically allows you to use html, CSS and JavaScript to make desktop apps. Since they aren't native they're often slow and bloated since they have to carry around a web browser with each installation.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromium_Embedded_Framework

How do you make a web site with separated front and backend without Javascript?

>seperated font
>why_tho.jpg
>javascript backend
I dont know, maybe python, java, php, C, ?

Get over it, faggots. JavaScript won.

>js won
>says the nervous pajeet/numale every night before sleep
>laughingwhores.jpg

It's actually good that people make stuff with Electron. More apps for Linux and so on.

nodejs > php; actually, everything > php
I'll have preferred python or perl though as they are usually installed already

I want to separate front from backend so that the server only has to transmit the layout once and after that it's data only.

what the fuck? this is a thread about desktop applications. you load the layout from your hard drive.

php is still good for static web pages and db.

Yes I know. But a separated approach allows me to use the same code for both desktop, app and website deployment.

atom = firefox < 57
vscode = firefox >= 57
