Im more suprised its still in use

And IRC just marches on.

F

I once chatted with a Jewess from CT on AIM. Good times.

Still it's like watching a family member slowly waste away.

F

Never stopped using it. I still log in to talk to people every morning and night. There are a few people I'll probably lose contact with.

F

Any decent AIM replacements with image uploading? Not touch yahell's crap and facebook's nothing but trouble.

F

I’m wondering this too. I’ve got friends on my list from 1998. I don’t want to deal with FB. Google talk could have been a good replacement but those assholes stopped development. I’ve a few old aim buddies on Steam. I suddenly feel old.

TIL people still use AIM

WTF?

I got old peeps on aim.

What ever shall I do without font styles and colors?!

The ability to use it in third party clients like Pidgin and Trillian meant that it continued to see some use among the old guard. It's seamless when they all log in and display together.

I didn't even know it was still active but RIP old friend you were my first chatrooms back in the late 90s when I was in middle school. Now I mostly just go on IRC instead.

I switched to Trillian Astra when MSN died. One of the few IM networks left with a non shit desktop client and an adequate mobile client.

I'll try it out.

Why not use Google Hangouts?

same, buddy. i'm gonna go log in and see if any of my old online friends are still using it. probably not though. i occasionally logged in, but i pretty much stopped using it about 10 years ago.

>why not feed the alphabe-ast even more?

F

>tfw you got a virus and your dad took it over to his friends to fix it. ends up finding your aim/trillian logs of yaoi RP

and thats how my dad found out i was a faggot.
rip old friend

pic tangentially related

Me and my friends have all moved to Discord for our chat client (we don't use any of the voice functions). Yet, I feel a gentle wave of solemness wash over me all the same.

It's been so many years and yet there's STILL no way to transfer files that's as convenient as AIM's direct connect

Bad news, tbqh. I still use it daily. What else am I supposed to use now? Is Pidgin a good alternative?

That's literally how my dad found my gay porn too lol

So many ERP adventures in my youth. Lot of women might still have my young cock on their hard drives.

This.

Has anyone used this shit since the super early 2000s?

Discord grandpa

Rest in peaces, you program that connected me with many people, some of whom grew to be my closest and dearest friends, and whom I still talk to over AIM every day.

Since ICQ uses the OSCAR protocol, is it affected by this as well, or will it keep running?

I don't even know what that is. I only talk to 2 people on AIM now as it is.

Discord is probably the hottest new client but I personally don't like it.
If ICQ will still be working after AIM shuts down, that's an option; you can access it with aggregate clients like Trillian (which also has an IRC client, and runs its own IM network) or Pidgin.

First time I cybered was aim

Pidgin might be a suitable option if you want a private instant messenger. It's also FOSS.

Discord sells data to third parties and uses Electron (which is based on Chromium).

The age of electronic privacy has been over for years popop, everyone sells data and the government will demand it at gunpoint even if they legally can't plunder it.

aw man

Appropriate.

Been using it every day, probably since 1998 (can't figure out how to see when I created it).
My account's password has always been 5 lowercase characters (suck it, security team).

I'm probably one of the few people that will actually be affected by the shutdown of AIM.

I used Meebo before Google bought it and shut it down.
