I'm not a gay, I'm straight, I have an Intel CPU for work.

I have a dual-core

I have 6700k and stream at 720p60 with no issues at all. Won't need to upgrade for years

youtube.com/watch?v=CZIVaGcax70

A Q6600 doesn't let me play Persona 5 on my PC at an acceptable framerate.

>CPU for gaming
Current state of Sup Forums

Yes it is faster. But the overall cost in terms of value and addtional heat and power is not worth the upgrade from a 4 core Intel setup.

That is all Intel shills use as a performance index these days. When Ryzen came out all they did was shill Intel as a better gaming CPU because of 'muh single core clocks'.

If that is all they understand then that is all I shall aregue against.

>basically skylake + glue + I3

Yeah because a 6c/12t cpu that reaches speeds up to 5 ghz without huge tdp bumps over kabylake is not impressive at all.

Kek at butthurt AMDtards

>argue against
fixed

Case in point. TWII is still using their own (very old) single core biased engine.

If you are on an older 4 core CPU Invest your money in a better GPU you will see far higher performance. At least in games.

If on a shitty old Bentium then go for it. But Ryzen is still better value for money overall. Especially iun the run up to xmas. Oh and good luck finding stock of those Intel K series (especially at MSRP).

>AMD shills keep spamming this guy's video to prove their point
(lol

How pathetic

>Case in point. TWII is still using their own (very old) single core biased engine
>yet the 8700k is clearly above the 7700k at the same clock speed
>AMDtards in charge of arguments

Im buying ryzen to reward AMD for being the good guys.

"It's OK when Intel glue dies" the post

>Pentium 3 with a GTX 1080ti
hoho

Sup Forums is depressing now when I think of what it used to be like.
I don't even remember the last time I saw a pc guts thread.

What if I have a 4 core Ivy bridge but my motherboard just died should I get a 1600?

Get the 8400. Cheaper and better performance.

Get a n ew motherboard (Ebay etc).

Either get a "new" motherboard or get a r5 1600 with a good B350 motherboard.

If his CPU still works and it's cheaper to get a replacement motherboard...

Don't fall for marketing hype.

Sup Forums has always compared processors like this.

Why do that when he could upgrade and get literally twice the CPU performance?

Boy that was a LONG time ago.

I have been looking for a new motherboard but the prices are a little steep for years old second hand boards.
Thanks for the suggestions I'll do some comparisons and pricing on them.

DUAL CORE DOING MORE HERE.

It really depends on your usage scenario. If you feel it is worth the cost then feel free. My argument is that if you have a decent 4 core Intel CPU purchased in the last 2-3 years you are not going to see massive performance increases in most scenarious. You are better off getting a better GPU if you are still rocking something like a GTX 560 for instance.

Have you actually seen the comparisons of 4 core vs 6+ cores when streaming? It's not pretty.

you actually use this slavshit?

>My argument is that if you have a decent 4 core Intel CPU purchased in the last 2-3 years
Agreed. Ivy Bridge is slightly more than double that timeframe though.

It's still not that bad considering the IPC increases. You might gain 50% by upgrading.

I'm not talking about the CPU threads. It's just not the same place anymore.

Was it? I've been checking the catalog pretty often and haven't run across one yet. The battlestation threads aren't even that great anymore either. It's like the same 20-30 people every time. Before we'd have multiple threads because of the picture limit. Sup Forums is getting smaller and smaller.

It was the rule of stopping tech support that did us in. plus reddit

Maybe in single-threaded performance but multi-threaded it's literally twice the performance.

Technology has become less interesting and more 'normie' as geek culture has become popular among the social media generation. It's more about products than anything else these days. Marketing has taken over mindshare and the FB, Reddit, Twitter crowd has moved in. Same with Sup Forums. It's just full of shitty porn threads these days and no creative content like it used to have. When was the last time you saw a new meme born?

DESU there is not a great deal of stuff requiring heavy multithreaded workloads right now. But again it's on a case by case scenario. If into heavy multithreading Ryzen offers the better value. If into pure gaming the 8400 or 8600K (if you can find one) is better but costlier overall, If you have a recent 4 core you won't see much gain in gaming and are better served with a better GPU.

>DESU there is not a great deal of stuff requiring heavy multithreaded workloads right now.
idk m8

btw here's the performance of the 1600 which is $10 more than the 8400
browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/search?dir=asc&q=ryzen 1600&sort=created_at
worse single and multithreaded perf

>When was the last time you saw a new meme born?
Couple of days ago

Prices will fall. It's early days yet.

Good luck finding a 8700K at MSRP (if at all).

Paper launch to try and grab the mindshare of gullible Intel fans.

Man, limiting this place really didn't help..

All I see on Sup Forums is IG/FB fap threads, trap threads and "wwyd to my wife/gf/family member" threads.

I remember that it used to be so much more violent/gorey/epic fucking lulz worthy.
This newer generation is depressing. I have a ton of 2009-2012 pictures saved on my computer from when Sup Forums was dox'ing people, ruining lives and actually catching criminals.

Looks like shit. I doubt it will take off.

>Good luck finding a 8700K at MSRP (if at all).
I really don't get why somebody would get an 8700k when that i5 less than half the price is performing so close to it. I wonder if the incredibly low base clock with the really high turbo was done to trick people into spending more for the same thing.

We live in the antifa. SJW, feminist propaganda, respect muh rights, no bully generation now.

You are NOT free to speak your mind openly (without being user) for fear of backlash.

And it was better in 2006 and 2007.

The magic wears off after a while.

Has science gone too far? Should we just an hero?

On the real though, aging sucks.

I was too busy playing RuneScape with my friends in 2006 to know about Sup Forums. Feels like I missed out, y'know?

>that disgusting font rendering
stop using IE

lulz were aplenty back then.

FF 52 ESR actually.

Either his screen has a strange subpixel configuration or his cleartype settings are fucked.

>FF 52
You fucked something up then. It's not supposed to look like that.

RuneScape was probably a better investment of time.

On the real though, it was fun. But there's always something to miss. They used to mock incorrect use of their/there/they're with a zoom when I first came to Sup Forums. Now there are lots of anons angry about antifascists and I can't shake the feeling they're fascists.

But now there's less pressure to lurk and one can actually post. So it's good, too. I'm sure there are still lulz here and there.

Well no shit bro, the 1700/X is pointless. However what really is going to see huge gaming gains are 6 cores. I5 8400 is cheap enough and so is the 1600/X.

>this is what amd considers good marketing

I have a 7 year old i7 and have no intention of replacing it any time soon

would the new i3 unlocked be good enough to play games in a VM or would i need more cores/threads? can't get a straight fucking answer out of /pcbg/

Actual users have shrunk, probably left because of all the shill threads these days

I'll never forget the surface launch and how blatant it was moot got paid off by MS shills.

I posted in a guts thread a few days ago but it died pretty fast and it was the first one I saw in I think two months (but I don't browse daily so take that as you will).

Too many shills and shitposters form Sup Forums have ruined this board. You'll never see the people posting trolls in favour of some company post their rigs/battlestations because they're all children.
Nowadays Sup Forums is too shit so I just stick to browsing a few generals instead.

No. You need quad with ht or hexa core for newer games.

Pic related.

>newer games
you mean early access unoptimized trash?
also since when did people NEED to have over 60 fps? 120/144 Hz is not the standard it is above standard

>I don't even remember the last time I saw a pc guts thread
Like last week? Also, what do you think people do with $2000 builds? Hint: they play games

My 7 year old i7 is a hex core with hyperthreading

>we want the 12yo crowd

Yeah yeah Fuck off and stay in the past.

Then you are good to go. I just upgraded from an i5 4670k 4.6ghz to a 1600x 4ghz.big difference

Beautiful CPU but shitpost aside. I am sure he means a modern quad core. i.e i5 2nd and up.
Shit even a never i3 will do with only 2 cores.

>I don't even remember the last time I saw a pc guts thread
me neither, cause i have that shit filtered

It's actually easier or at least no more difficult to program applications (particularly games) to use all available threads as opposed to a specific number of threads. Why is almost everything still lacking scalability, which artificially favours Intel?

I will.upgrade when Epycs become the new Xeons on eBay.

720p is an issue
