Personally, I think it's pretty cool. I like how personal it is compared to a regular social media profile, and that it hosts a pretty Sup Forums-esque community in the sense that it tends to be anonymously-driven and has it's own style of humor. Plus, I find it kind of funny that some people are jumping to something that harkens back to the earliest days of the Internet after getting sick of modern social sites, even if they never even knew about GeoCities.
Aside from Tumblr, is there any other website that's even remotely similar to geocities?
Should we make one?
Caleb Anderson
Well, NeoCities is the obvious one, that's what this thread is about. I've heard there's something called "GeoCities.ws" which apparently doubles as both a web hosting service and GeoCities archive, but apparently it tends to be pretty virulent, so watch your step if you go there.

It's great. I honestly missed the style of older websites, but not the autoplaying audio. They also need a proper GUI html editor I think.
Xavier Anderson
Also, I would help make a GeoCities-like website, but I'm no programmer. Graphic design guy here.

>none of those have the embedded guest list notebook and social ring
I think its amazing. I wish the pages were more popular.

>web 1.0 revival
I fucking love this.

You could just make your own website. We are on Sup Forums. Hand write some HTML and take some CSS you like.

>You could just And host where? This is why Geocities was cool. This is why Neocities is cool.
Liam Ortiz
You could do it from your house if your ISP isn't a piece of shit. There's also Digital Ocean, Amazon Web Services, and a ton of other cloud server hosts. It's like $5 a month for the server and $5 a year for the domain name.

STOP SHILLING YOUR FUCKING AUTISTIC PROGRAMMING LAUGUAGE

Funny thing, I just finished writing a Sup Forums clone using the Nim programming language.

Wait $60 for my own hosting or free on Neocities ... hmmm
Bentley Scott
There's no price too great for owning yourself. Also, stop being poor.
Landon Perry
Does $10 a year sound better? Look around and you can get some great deals.
Kevin Brown
Look m8, i pay plenty for hosting. But i'm not the target audience.
Depends, is that more than free?
Ryan Robinson
I use mine to host my niche software. It's good to collect everything in a single place where people can find it, instead of having to send download links. I also do my software version and update checking with neocities, and it's all free. Good site. hgtools.neocities.org/
