YOU SEE THIS SHIT? IT'S CALLED A FUCKING FILE PICKER WITH THUMBNAILS
WHY THE FUCK IS KDE THE ONLY DESKTOP ENVIORNMENT TO IMPLEMENT THIS?
WHY THE FUCK CAN'T I USE THIS ON I3 OR MY OTHER WINDOW MANAGERS.
WHO THE FUCK WOULD THINK THIS IS NOT A USEFUL FEATURE TO HAVE?
Seriously though, what the actual fuck
YOU SEE THIS SHIT? IT'S CALLED A FUCKING FILE PICKER WITH THUMBNAILS

Eh OSX and Windows has it. Maybe don't use sub-par OS if you want small polish like that.
Canonical needs to work with KDE to produce THE Linux desktop, that will will finally bring foth the year of the linux desktop.
>install patched GTK2/GTK3 from aur
>open file picker
>crashes application
what the shit
So use KDE then?
works on my i3
I learned how to do it by googling "nautilus show thumbnails" and you can too
please delete your thread
Why is Linux still using fonts from the early 90s?
There is no patched GTK3 file-dialog.
Holy shit that design is cancer. Not symmetrical, images are smaller than the filenames, no truncation. Maybe try using a real OS, you know, like one made in the last two decades? Those all tend to have actual working file browsers.
The kernel doesn't use any fonts.
There actually is, but its buggy
What's the difference between that and Windows Explorer?
pretty sure my xfce does that
which means gnome does too
>some dirty kraut talking shit
is that Poettering? why are krauts such fucking cunts?
too bad it has reddit spacing.
Im using kde but the thumbnails are just ant pictures that I cant see
I'm using KDE and I get what OP gets
Sorry for the dumb question but is it possible to install the KDE file picker on XFCE?
Works on XFCE4, friend.
Chrome OS?
protip only Sup Forums autists care about this feature
>images are offset by the length of their names instead of by a fixed length
Is this a joke? It looks so bad.
>uses i3
>wants to use a mouse
just use kde if you are going to end up installing software to make your system work like it. Or use any of the dozen decent file managers available
it works on every linux desktop based on GTK, using nautilus or thunar as a file browser.
And guess what? A Sup Forums autist wrote a patch for it years ago and the people who still complain are too stupid to know how to use it.
Qt >>>>> gtk
This can all be changed by clicking a few things in the context menu, OP is merely a faggot and used the worst settings.
>not memorizing every image by its filename
Brainlets, when will they learn
Xfce has a preview in the file picker.
You can do all of that (that should be done by default) but OP doesn't know/care ┐( ˘ 、 ˘ )┌
I have this in i3 and I didn't do anything special
>my *
Get out of here normie. You're just using that to try and fit in.
the "g" in gtk stands for garbage
>get ffmpeg
>increase the size limit for thumbnails
wow so hard
theme?
...
Should be in here github.com
Canonical should have ditched Gnome and GTK a long time ago. The Gnome devs don't give a shit about it anymore.
no it doesn't since Firefox uses its different file dialog from Thunar/Naut.
Then change it you mong
≥basic modern function is "small polish"
linucks users, everyone
It can't be. There's literally 1 way to browse internet with Firefox and have filepicker with proper sized previes, and that is KDE desktap which fucking sucks
Why?
>just patch your GTK2 and your Firefox to use GTK2
>that's a good solution
Doesn't actually work I tried
Obviously you've not used your imagination if you think installing a whole DE is your only choice.
I tried plenty of ways and couldn't replicate how FF allows for any size preview like Windows.
I got cuck tier previews for sure, yeah, but that's garbage
No, APPS will bring forth the year of the Linux desktop.
i've had a patched open dialog installed since it was first made available, but i've only ever used it as a demonstration to show people on Sup Forums that it exists
it's one of those things i thought i missed, but didn't
How has GTK not fucking died yet
proof???
crazy, Im using plasma and my file picker looks like the details view in windows explorer where its in a horizontal list and has the file size and other crap. its got a thumbnail for ants on the left. I cant zoom out to change the configuration like how you do on windows
What is APPS?
Applications, something Linux could use more of.
b-but the gtk file picker has it too
>apps
You mean PROGRAMS right user?
delete please sir
>retard doesn't even know what a thumbnail view should look like..
please leave.
Apple calls them apps. Microsoft calls them apps now. Even Linux people call them apps now.
GTK is dead as fuck and Qt is constantly putting out better, faster, more streamlined software.
I just use pcmanfm
absolutely zero modifications
yours truly, gnome
You can tell it's Guhnome because the inside of the window can be set to a color other than white.
It's some 2058 future shit omfg!!!!!
Gnome team thinks that no one need that function and they are removing more functions for every version
Not using ranger and having this in the terminal.
Pleb.
KDE muh thumbnails FUD BTFO'd for nth time in this fucking subreddit.
Windows doesn't have this problem.
>running gstreamer or ffmpeg on random files
You are a smart man.
t. wastes of oxygen who continue running with OP's premise after proof to the contrary has been posted
>having to use the file manager because your file pickr is so shit
So this is the power of GTK?
What proof?
...
LMAOOOOOOOOO
sad
It depends from your Firefox version. Opensuse has a patched Firefox that uses KDialog, otherwise if Firefox isn't patched it will use GTK3's filepicker. I believe Chromium can use KDialog without patches but I can't be bothered to check.
I have this on Chromium/Thunar/i3
Firefox hardcoded the GTK file picker. Chromium automatically detects if you have kdialog installed and will use it if available.
don't use an autistic OS?
This
aur.archlinux.org
There is. Used to have a separate tab for icon view. Now there's just a slider to adjust the icon size since the latest version. Can make em pretty damn big. Works very well.

Fuck off, I'll call them anything but apps. Even when I was in Windows I thought it sucked.
Scratch that, I could use more sleep.
Why don't we get lunduke on this shit (bitching at the gnome/gtk devs)
He seems to get shit done.
>KDE THE ONLY DESKTOP ENVIORNMENT
>What is Deepin
lmao at your life, literally nigger.
No, there's a combo box now to switch views like in the GTK2 one. There's still some bugs though.
It shouldn't crash. Sometimes you have to recompile your GSettings schema files, but the PKGBUILD should do that automatically when you install it.
Oh, I only installed it last night. Didn't notice the combo box. It's better than it used to be anyways. The last version made all the thumbnails really small for some reason.
When I was on arch I used the patched thumbnailer, some update broke it though.
It's a hacky solution at best.
We need to beat some sense into these idiot devs
Yeah when I first added the icon scale it was pretty experimental. The xml settings weren't set correctly.
Well unfortunately, I did ask the devs, but they don't seem to have any interest in it. The GTK2 patched won't ever be accepted upstream. They'll take the gtk3 one, but only if I figure out a way to significantly speed it up. It's true that it can be a tad slow with a lot of files. I definitely agree that it's a pretty hacky solution although I think the gtk2 implementation is basically perfect.
bugzilla.gnome.org
>install openSUSE
>filepicker has thumbnails
>no need to dick around with anything
*shrug*
Because they're compensating for the fact that they're the niggers of Europe (really worse than any other group of niggers if you think about it)
Why is there so much fucking wasted space there?
