I need to pick up a couple more 8TB drives

...

Now THATS what I call a stash

Forget about hardware, I need a streamlined system to save and hoard everything that crosses my path.

Been worried about stuff like this for years. Thankfully most everything I care enough about that can’t be found anymore I can fit into a flash drive

God please stop making threads like this it just causes that nas retard to come in and spam his fucking shit everywhere.

>goes to cry in the corner cause only has a single half full 500gb drive

>ClickComfy recomends MyCloud NAS

Is it worth it?

>ext
Wait, are those all external drives? Any redundancy/backups of all that shit? It seems insanely risky.

Not too big of a stash here, but enough to keep me in media for a while if the internet ever finally dies.

>Western Digital Reds
>Western Digital Enterprise Yellows

Give me a reason to don't just use HGST

Also where is your fucking porn

>Also where is your fucking porn
nice meme

>Saving porn
Nerd.

...

...

I can't imagine having TBs of content what kind of stuff are you guys hoarding that takes up that kinda space?

I am just pleb I guess...

Welp time to buy a 4TB WD external

...

music, games, animes, the creative work I do
There a lot in here who have more, but I does take up a TB or two

what are you going to do when some of those DVD titles come out on blu-ray?

what font is that

thats honestly really impressive

Replace them with the BD version

So what's worth saving?

I don't care about porn.

Checked and 2nd'd

The font is Futura.

Music
Books
Images
Films

Just ask yourself if the internet ever disappeared, what would you like to have saved?

Are MyPassports good?
I have 2 1TB ones.

Okay

Rarely read
>Images
Rarely save any as of now.
>Films
need some recommendations
>TV Shows
need some recommendations
>Software
not sure about this.
Probably some music, although I can't think of many songs right now. Some games but I don't have much of a collection. Maybe some tv shows but then again I'd probably just watch it once and never touch it again. What are you doing for this?

>Films

I personally have saved fully cracked software and games that I use/might some day use. Also memes, books, Sup Forums threads, some music and tv shows. That's roughly 1.2 tb. Once you hoard you never go back. Having everything already downloaded is too convenient.

Almost at 1gb...someone send help...and recommend hard drives that wont shit the bed in a few years

annnnd forgot pic

HGST is the brand you want.

but user "le torrent sites are like hydra, you take one down another 9 pop up xd"
i'm so fucking sick of people saying that shit when it's obvious that things are getting worse every year

any difference vetween these and the wd reds? i looked up HGST and saw that WD owns that brand

Does anyone do raid0 here? Is it worth it?

>cyrillic moon runes
Organization is garbage. See and . Sort them into file types or uses etc

WD did buy them, but it looks like they're basically leaving them alone. HGST drives on average have lower failure rates than any other manufacturer: backblaze.com/blog/hard-drive-benchmark-stats-2016/

>0.60% failure rate
>4 drives failed out of ~2.5k
about to cop that 4tb one, thanks user

You're welcome user! Hope it provides many years of no-hassle storage for you.

Why are there three xenoblade chronicles entries, one of them being fucking 20GB?

you actually just found his trap porn stash

DLC, update, and 20GB is the game itself. I never even got around to hacking my WiiU to play it either.

How did you do that visualization?

OC naming scheme doughnut steel

Space Sniffer

>not naming your drives after animu grills
ISHYGDDT

I'm not that autistic
not just yet

Someone suggested deploying CEPH on some small machines in my home and linking them together.

Anyone here autistic enough to do this

could I just use this in my PC or would it only be effective in a NAS

I want to build a home server. People tell me RAID is not the answer.

Should I just get a Xeon desktop and run a cron job to copy files to a redundant drive as they're added?

>7200rpm
>up to 20% faster than 5400RPM drives!

>streamlined system

aesospadez.com/single-node-ceph-cluster-your-home-storage-solution/

Newfag-tier question.
Let's suppose I have a shit-ton of vidya on steam.
I obviously backed up the game files and steam client to an external drive, so if the steam network is usable, then it should run, right?
But what if Steam gets discontinued, or the internet cuts out for good?
Will I still be able to play in offline mode, even if Valve as a company is no longer a thing?

theoretically it should work
I have no idea if they set a expiration date on the offline mode, but there are a decent amount of games that are on steam, but have no DRM

I've never been able to get into data hording because I feel the need to have backups for my backups desu. How do I get past this?

Backup the DRM free versions.

Just bought another 2tb drive at microcenter. $40 refurbed

Think I'm going to fill a desktop with them.

Anyone here hoard images from the boorus and Sup Forums threads? What's your system/organization method?

Have 1:1 drive backups. When one dies, replace it and clone your data back. You aren't realistically ever going to lose two drives at once.

How do I get the DRM versions though legally?
Steam doesn't give you ownership over the actual software, being the jews they are.
Obviously legality doesn't matter in my case, but I'd still prefer to bypass the hassle of simply pirating the games I already have installed.

>home server
>RAID redundancy
>SFTP access
>dynDNS
>access all your shit anywhere using Solid Explorer
i feel like this is the way to go

You are using classic theme on w7 right ? Do you have screen tearing ?

Get a NAS from Buffalo if you want to not spend much, or Sinology if you're willing to spend over $200 for the NAS itself. The WD MyCloud is surprisingly bad unless you can get a good deal on it.

How are you gonna use your computer if the internet dies you retard?

also, handy to have an http server running so I can send people shit

>clickcomfy.org/data/
Nice amazon referrer links, fag.

Would using NAS drives (for example WD red drives) in your PC be better or worse than using a typical performance drive (for example WD black or blue drives)?

they're all memes, a drive is a drive

How does one do encrypted backup of 40 TB of data into Backblaze's servers?

Here's an example of what I use.

There's two main folder groups, reaction pics (memes and such) and greentext (plus user-made infographs). The former is organized by emotion/context/meme flavor while the latter is organized by subject. I also have some other folders, one for pics that I use as avatars, one for papes, one for special pics that I like (not porn), one for personally made stuff, and one for recommendation charts.

Of course, that's from several years of autistically browsing Sup Forums and that chan-that cannot-be-named, as well as boorus.

>Of course, that's from several years of autistically browsing Sup Forums and that chan-that cannot-be-named
>tfw I started organizing my reaction images only this month
>tfw my huge 2005-2015 folder of pics saved from the chans remains unsorted
>tfw my even bigger folder of images from the boorus is unsorted too

If only I knew about dragging images from the browser into their folder before, I'm retarded.

I thought NAS drives were used for something like archives and can't be good for reading files?

>tfw used to delete all my shit
feels bad man

Local Area Network.

Forgot to mention. Starting with a basic system that focuses on narrow generalities (I like pic vs I hate pic) or with concrete attributes (colors, file size, original location) is pretty easy, but the more abstract and the broader your system, the harder it is to come up with efficient and consistent folder names and descriptions.

If you have like several GBs of unsorted memes and pics, I'd look up the collection management general in /h/, and also look up books on data organization.

Oh, and if you haven't tried tagging your pics from the get-go and as soon as you download a pic, don't bother doing it yourself. I did that with a pic folder that I later deleted. Just keeping everything tagged right was hell let alone finding proper source and artist tags.

Then go find some hacks for them.

Something like this

Do you all save all of these manually or use a program/script/scraper?

How do you guys organize your shit?
Right now my shit is like this

> Audio - Type - Artist - Album - File
> Video - Type - Series - File
> Pictures - etc.
>Docs - etc.

steam man said they would find a solution so you can keep playing but come on! obviously the games you buy on steam aren't and will never be yours

everyone gib Sup Forums pics torrent now

go on archive.org if you don't know what else to hoard

Manually with Save Image/Link in Folder which goes to a catch-all folder under main categories which I'll sort later (I haven't in a while). Unless it's an image dump thread, then I use something like downthemall.

Audio: Type (Music, audiobook etc) > Decade > Genre > Artist > Album > Files
Video: Movie/TV series (Live action)/Cartoon/Anime/Misc videos > Genre > Show > Season > Files
Pictures: N/A, too much shit for now
Documents: Work > Finished/Unfinished > Project > Files

They have a feature which gives up on bad sectors after a few seconds over the greens/ blues so they don't hang when ZFS requests and read from them and a sector is fucked.

Terrible on consumer drives but great in a SAN.

I used that method before, it was a pain in the ass, too much clicking everywhere an not flexible at all. Then I discovered the magic of dragging images into a Xyplorer window full of folders that can be easily re-arranged, moved and renamed.

is this part of your stash

The only good way to organize shit is to tag it - and tagging shit is time consuming as fuck.

For an example of why folder organization doesn't work:
Do I put character art of Motoko Kusanagi and Batou in my Ghost In the Shell folder, or do I put it in my Character Art folder? Do I create a GITS folder in my Character Art folder and put the character art in there, or do I create a Character Art folder in my GITS folder and do it that way?

There are times I want to look through all my character art
Other times I just want specific character art for a genre or game

Tags allow you to quickly get the relevant results, while searching does not. Especially if you have never renamed anything and just use default dates like Sup Forums does.

I bet within 10 years one of the biggest 'new' software things is going to be a neural net that automagically tags all your images for you.

>all dat (((((porn)))))
>on externals

I hope you're sharing it on a private tracker as backup at least.

What should I hoard? I have no idea what to save. I really want to have a nice collection of stuff in case anything happens.

Is there a good solution for this?

I save manually because I save only what I like. Like I said, I've done this for a few years. If I'm gonna download en masse, I would definitely use a scripter.

>Books - General Subject - Specific Field - Topics in Field - Author alphabetically
>Vid - Don't have any
>Pics - See
>Documents - Need to Sort

>All that NTFS shit just rotting with no redundancy.
Fuck, man.

Fix your shit.

>Starting with a basic system that focuses on narrow generalities (I like pic vs I hate pic)

This part is easy

If I don't like the image it doesn't get intentionally saved onto my hard drive.

You need I hate pics on Sup Forums
