Imagine a world in which BitTorrent was invented in the early 90s

Imagine a world in which BitTorrent was invented in the early 90s.

Ok, now what?

Imagine a world without anime, how bright it would be

You'd solve the hosting issues, so the "wild west" period of the internet would carry on for much longer and produce more results.

nah. If so there would be no akira or ghost in the shell anime.

imagine a world with a solid mesh network for anyone to join.

Anime website

lemme tell you about a little thing called "usenet"

>doesn't know about usenet, xdcc, or p2p

do you even know what was a modem 28.8k?

There's little point in BitTorrent on dial-up connections, trying to max out upload speed typically chokes the download speed, and both are too slow for large files anyway.

BitTorrent over dialup sounds painful, and expensive.

It didn't exactly solve hosting issues, wasn't binary hosting prohibited?
XDCC is centralized, how much P2P was there at the time?
But you paid per unit of time, not per unit of bandwidth, so running it in the background would have zero marginal cost.

you need to be over 18 to post here

>But you paid per unit of time, not per unit of bandwidth, so running it in the background would have zero marginal cost.
you sound like someone who never used a modem.

it was painful

why the fuck would I give up my bandwith for bullshit like p2p when it takes 5 minutes to download an image

Heavy users would pay thousands (hundres of dollars) every months for the pleasure of using dialup. DSL was an amazing relief for heavy users when it first came out. You suddenly only had to pay 50 bucks every month, regardless of how much time you spent online.

The only thing dialup was good for was bulletin boards. Was absolute shit for the internet.

>imagine a world with holo-waifus as in Blade Runner 2049
This could be the final solution to the loneliness problem.

They already do in japan.

They have taken the first step, but they are far from so advanced one. But it will probably be Japan who will be market leading.

Fapping was so hard with 56k, 100k was forever. Saw my first net video march 97. Took an hour, it was two become one.

>what is limewire

1999-10-15 was 18 years ago.
But if you'd be browsing the web, you'd have periods of unused capacity, no?
If it'd be invented when DSL first came out, it would still be useful though.
Not sufficiently decentralized.

What is the fucking point of this thread?
Imagination threads suppose to go in /x/, no?

imagine a world with a 7th generation protocol

>1999-10-15 was 18 years ago.

>imagine a world where we had girlfriends

Imagine there's no heaven

People would've turned libertarian right en masse sooner.

You will never escape the cold hands of time.

Why are you sad, user? For me it's the >tfw no gf and that time goes to fast nowadays, which I was a kid again.

And yet thanks to the abysmal speeds a picture of tits was enough

Now look at us

You have to go back

>so running it in the background would have zero marginal cost

I remember downloading shit off of warez sites and my connection could hit maybe 5MB per hour. There’s just not enough bandwidth there for anything meaningful. Not to mention you couldn’t receive phone calls when you were online.
