Why do people use tor browser?

how the fuck can you trust something with such a massive code base as firefox, especially if you don't compile it yourself?
for all you know, the reason tor browser is """officially recommended""" is because it has spyware built in and in reality, you might be safer with just regular firefox
why not use w3m or links to browse hidden services through tor, since you won't be using javascript anyway?

Because you need to configure your Firefox properly for Tor or else you will leak data publicly.

If you feel comfortable doing that, comfortable that you will do it successfully, then go right ahead. If you aren't certain that you will do it right then you're just asking for trouble.

>use other browser for TOR
Please explain. I want to get rid of mozilla, but I still keep tor browser around for that.

first you have to stop being a dumb wincuck

I don't think links and w3m are even able to leak my data publicly

>i don't think...
So you don't know for certain then.

>terminal web browsers
>leaking data
they literally just download the html and parse it
nothing more
with the exception of w3m that renders images

Haven't used windows as a main OS since like 8-10 years ago. Currently using a combination of GNU/Linux and MacOS
Now,

look into torify and torsocks

Will do. Thanks!

this works for lynx
torsocks lynx -noreferer

w3m lynx and links are all basically unmaintained

expect vulnerabilities in the next year

>vulnerabilities
>text mode web browser

Expect it to straight up stop working first. The attack surface is already miniscule.

And that shows the limit to your knowledge.

please enlighten us

links2 has had 3 vulnerability patches in the last year

its the only one that has any form of support

last update for w3m was 6 years ago for example.

there is plenty of attack surface since they all include a download manager after all

you also forget the libraries themselves can have vulnerabilities

This'll remain largely applicable, even with text based browsers.

nice try NSA.
