Is VR like a rift / vive worth buying now or is it a giant fail? I see some VR porn that might be interesting, but its all lame pro shit, not freaky amateur trans shit.

Czech VR is decent amateur pr0n, and while it's awesome I wouldn't buy a headset just for that

Some of the games are fun, though, and more keeps popping out every month, if you can afford it sure go for it. I don't regret purchasing my Vive 1.5 years ago in the slightest, if anything it's difficult for me to be excited about flat games anymore.

cardboard is good enough for porn

when you're in the moment you block out the the rest anyways.

Cardboard looks horrible, I've tried it on NYT vr app

Does this look like a giant fail to you?
youtube.com/watch?v=Rs48W8AZiE0

actually windows mixed reality looks promising

looks pretty chill desu

In reality, it's a 50 year old CIA man luring children

Why do people in VR advertisements always look like borderline troglodytes?
The guy in OP's image literally is a mouthbreather.

>literally is a mouthbreather.
I guess you haven't heard the people with open mics in multiplayer VR games
huffff huff HUFFF HFFFFFFF
>VR
>Porn

I would at least get something out of listening to that.

It will fail because they only develop it for gimmick shit games. The big AAA+ titles don't support it out of the box, because you would have to actually make full use of the goggles for fun gameplay, like head tracking. Either you alienate people without VR or with VR. Can't have both. At least I don't know a real major title using it.

>inb4 tf2, portal

VRchat feels like late 90's IRC or 2003/2006 Sup Forums.

It's a fucking amazing experience that soon will be ruin by normies,.
I hope VR never catches on

>inb4 tf2, portal
Those don't actually support VR, valve dropped the VR support in Source engine during the Oculus devkit days, presumably because it made people sick and they shifted focus on roomscale and made-for VR experiences.

Later games like Onward have proven that FPS gameplay works in VR but it pretty much has to be designed for VR from ground up.

Yeah there's not a lot of mainstream AAA VR titles out there yet. Doom and Skyrim VR are coming however. Alien Isolation and Doom 3 work through mods.

It's ok, most people is outside the US jurisdiction anyway.

unless you're an overprivileged first world manbaby, which would be like 1% world population, current VR is not even worth considering

>Does this look like a giant fail to you?

Yes:
Bunch of guys having boring conversations, some of them picking girly avatars to turn on other men.

Real cringfest, frammalam

Wait until pimax 8k gets established, it looks promising.

how would you track the hips movement? strapping a vive tracker? kinect? is it just an animation script?

>is it just an animation script?

Of course.

In reality they are all sitting in a chair jerking off.

Iris_AI has an additional set of Vive controllers on the hips and feet, yes.

Have you ever heard a real girl talk in voice chat? That shit is annoying as hell, at least a cute trap gives me a boner.

there's a few people using kinects

I tried FSX and Elite Dangerous in VR. Bretty good. Also tried free a free roaming zombies game at the VR experience in Amsterdam. Fun.

I mostly just use it as a 3D headstrapped monitor to play older games ported to VR like Quake and Doom. It's a lot of fun to play like that, for me at least. It's just nice to be able to put on the headset and some headphones and be mostly disconnected from the real world. Kind of relaxing.

Though it is pretty expensive still for what it does. The room tracking and stuff is cool though, if something like is actually comfortable to do I could see it being pretty entertaining.

Agreed, the actual video is shit, but if there are sex toy addons then I think we have a potential winner in the next iteration.

I literally bought mine for relaxing in space engine with.
IT'S STILL NOT OUT.

Amazing. I actually have a xbox one kinect handy that I literally never use. I would love to learn more about how one can use it with VR.

I managed to get my PSVR working with this, but I suffer from motion sickness a bit, being new to VR (and I had a stomach bug as well the day before I got it so you bet your ass I felt like spewing my guts).
I actually have a PSMove working quite nicely with camera tracking too. (Using two PS3 Eye cameras I got dirt cheap for £4)
Not used that yet in games or VRChat though. Waiting on the other one in the post.
(Head tracking I plan to impliment with a ghetto solution: Bright LED attached to a 9 volt battery and resistor, in a pingpong ball, taped/glued to some velcro which then is taped/glued to some velcro on a hair band or bundle of shoelaces I can then tie around my head or headset.)

Someday you too could being doing handstands in real life and also in the game

youtube.com/watch?v=BaL_as5RDxk#t=13m

When will they fix the clipping in VRChat?

He said he was working on it a long time ago and that it would be out soon. I wonder what happened.

Never buy a rift wtf — not only is it the inferior system but you're handing over money to that scumbag reptile who made his fortune off selling your personal data and destroying healthy, real-world human interaction

I'm getting one this black friday~

What VR needs to do is move away from controllers to gloves. The magic is all in presence, the more your VR body corresponds 1:1 with your real body, the more invested you'll feel. An ideal pair of VR gloves will not only track your hand movements and simulate the texture/shape of objects, but allow you to emulate other controllers. You'd be able to simulate motion controllers for unsupported games or realistically type on a keyboard.

Eye tracking and inner ear manipulation are also good steps forward as well.

you wont be able to feel anything or resist anything so it would be pointless

... Said user, looking directly at a .gif of haptic feedback gloves simulating resistance

I fucking hate this gross pic with the nigger/arab/whatever. Why the hell is it used so often? No-one else finds it gross as hell?

I'm going to buy two now.

Rift is the superior system and currently sold for a loss.

play a few rounds of echo arena then tell me vr aint legit.

The picture has been shopped to be the optimal racial mix, you silly goy

5 rounds isn't enough, you need as many as it takes to get to level 10 which is where the real fun starts because by then the matchmaking algorithm can pair you against higher skill levels. Only then will you truly see the potential of the game.

Proofs, tovarisch?

Serious answer is that PSVR is getting all the games , they come out with games every week on Tuesday , and are planning big things for PSVR in 2018 so I hear. You can use phone VR for porn.

Born in just the right time.

well for porn the other VR headsets aren't significantly better. Better yes, but not $800 better.

OP don't just pick up VR because you want a new toy, pick it up because you have specific games you want to play in VR. eg. Elite Dangerous or whatever, then view it as a $X purchase to enhance your experience in that game. If that is justifiable to you, go for it.

> for porn the other VR headsets aren't significantly better. Better yes, but not $800 better.

I feel like this is the exact niche Oculus Go fits into

GearVR is a pretty good middleground, closer to Oculus Rift than to Google Cardboard in quality. In fact, I can play all the "Oculus Encodes" of VR porn on my GearVR just fine.

Just be careful, because in all seriousness, I'm developing some kind of weird addiction to VR porn.

VR's worth depends entirely upon what you intend to do with it. If you play flying or racing sims, you can not have a more immersive experience without getting one of those motion cockpit things that cost as much as a car.
As an owner of a Rift, I can say that VR is "adequate" right now. It's good enough to make you dizzy and spooked from a fall on the screen, and you really have the sense of scale on things that was always missing from monitors. It's just, it can be pretty blurry, and the resolution really is not good enough to let you see things far away. The displays are about 1080p right now on both the Rift and the Vive. 4k or 8k will be needed if we want a similar crispness to modern monitors in these headsets. I think that could happen within 5 years if this stuff takes off enough.
If you've got the money lying around, it's a great toy. There are some pretty good games integrating VR lately. Just be sure you have enough room and USB ports.

Also I'm not sure what is talking about - Rift's already down to $400.

>Rift's already down to $400.
Plus the $800-$1200 computer to run it, as opposed to the subsidized phone you already have on your plan because you're just a dork who wants to look at VR tiddies and not an early adopter with money to burn

>VR porn meme

Not worth the hassle.

Which is exactly what was talking about

doesn't kinect interfere with vive?

There are not enough games being made for VR. Most of what's out there are gimmicky demos. Hold out for five years and see where it's at.

I tried one out at Frys, I 100% plan to buy one. They work well. I can't fucking wait to play Onward and that Nazi mech tank game.

>games made for VR

I'm pretty sure most of the people who have bought VR have bought it to make use of the VR mode in already existing games, user.

>Plus the $800-$1200 computer to run it, as opposed to the subsidized phone you already have on your plan because you're just a dork who wants to look at VR tiddies and not an early adopter with money to burn
You mean the one you already have because you already sperg out whenever your FPS dips below 60FPS more than once an hour to begin with?

BTFO

oh, it was Kinect 2 which has interference problems but not Kinect 1. Nice. I should try to incorporate this setup with unity

Throw these in with those impact vests and walking platforms.

The dork who just wants to look at VR tiddies is not you or I with the FPS obsession

As someone who played Aces High II for years in the mid and late 2000s on a Pentium 4 at 800x600, I have literally been waiting for this for over a decade.

My Vive arrives tomorrow, so hopefully I'll get to see what all the hype is about.

Since I'm a game dev, I think it'll be interesting to see just how far I can push it. I kind of wish I wanted another year for the Vive 2 release, which might be in early 2018, but who knows.

For all I know it could be another 2-3 years before it's released, and the price tag will probably be super high.

Wish I had some IL-2 footage.

Max res is 1080p, right?
You should be able to run any game at 90FPS on max settings with a GTX 970 with that kind of res

Sure, if you're using a single screen and not an HMD which renders separate images for each eye

Oh right it's combined.
Actually I just read that rendering 2160p on VR is more expensive than doing it on a regular monitor due to eye buffering and some other tidbits. Still, a GTX 970 should be fine.

It's considered the absolute minimum. You're not gonna be pushing super consistent frames, and probably not on max settings either. I got an EVGA 1070 FTW just to be sure.

I have an 1070 too and plan on getting a vive.

Can it do silky smooth 90FPS on max settings for most games you've played? I'll have to OC it if it can't.

Yes, but I can't 100% confirm that personally because I'm piping it through an FX6350 in my previous build that the card can't even fit properly inside of. I plan to have a new SL i5 rig built for it before I actually get the vive but I suspect I would be okay if I got the vive first.

And I bought the EVGA 1070 FTW specifically for the god-tier factory overclock and cooling. EVGA is the only brand I ever buy now because of it, I had a 650TI that punched well above what that card should have done and survived abusive temps for years.

I don't care if it's worth it or not, it's something different.
The novelty alone will be worth it for the first couple of weeks. I'm getting one with the expectation that I'll be bored with it within a month and it'll be stuck in a cupboard.

>I'm getting one with the expectation that I'll be bored with it within a month and it'll be stuck in a cupboard
I definitely would not spend $600+ on something that'd only have a couple weeks worth of fun. If you want to get your money's worth out of it, become a dev.

Get Unity/Unreal4
Learn C#/C++

>I definitely would not spend $600+
$400.

That's for the rift.
Vive(better) is $600

I'm getting light stands for mine because I can't be assed to mount them to the walls and constantly re-mount them around to test my room scaling.

And when the new finger controllers come out, I'll be getting that too.
