Leaving/weakening the matrix

What are some tips to minimize or completely leave the matrix?

Here's some of mine
1. Use a dumbphone. You can still be tracked, but at least you won't be suceptible to unreported exploits and malware.
2. Have a separate laptop/desktop, for work and private life. Work device can be any OS with professional material only. Private device can contain your journals, etc, on a locked down OS.

What else?

1. How does one detach from the usefulness of a smartphone. I used to like it for websurfing when mobile, but now that I have my thinkpad (x220, thanks /tpg/), it has been reduced to a mobile hotspot (Verizon is pricey but worth it. Unless ya'll know of something cheaper with better/same coverage) due to all the problems with public wifi. Nothing is truly secure, but at least it has "muh password" and far more mobility. Nothing is as comfy as computing in a desert wasteland amongst birds and tumbleweeds (in comparison to a StarCucks). Is there a dumphone with hotspot functionality, or am I defeating the point?
2. I already do this physically, but as another layer of security I use Kali Linux from a live USB whenever I'm doing something a bit shadier (or just something I want very little record of) on my laptop. Is this sufficient?

I just gave up

Perhaps the only true option. By allowing yourself to be vulnerable to their efforts when it doesn't matter, it may log so much useless info that when you do want to be under the radar, it will be harder to pinpoint things. Or something.

>Is there a dumphone with hotspot functionality, or am I defeating the point?
There are.

But the biggest question is, do you really need to browse the internet while you're on the go?

The only thing I need a dumbphone for is music, email, txting and calling. Everything is extraneous.

2. Yes, that should be fine. Where do you store documents tho if not on the persistent usb storage?

I wish I could, but my laptop has become useless outside of its web browser. I miss doing things besides the internet, but I'm addicted to that sweet, sweet dopamine.

I accept that we still need laptops/pcs for work like media production and programming. But smartphones are just so extraneous IMO.

I have many gaps in my daily schedule, so I prefer to have internet access for any number of reasons. Can you reference a dumbphone with hotspot functionality?
If it can play music and check e-mail, is it a dumbphone? Or do you consider a Blackberry to be a dumbphone? I was under the impression that a dumbphone could only make calls and maybe text.

Why leave matrix?
Embrace it. Merge with it. Become one with it.

>You merely adopted the Matrix. I was born in it.

shoo shoo cointelpro spook

If it has an appstore and you can upgrade those apps, it's a smartphone.

Music in phones have been around before smartphones.

Blackberrys are smartphones.

>dumbphone with hotspot

I know of talkase t3 and a few nokia models.

Oh and I use a separate encrypted 256 GB flash drive for data storage.

this
trying to avoid botnet leaves you technologically impaired, in kinda same way like following Stallman-style die hard freetard philosophy
moreover paradoxically you draw attention to yourself that way

eloquently stated.

I still would have a laptop with my emails and browser. I'm not completely out of it. Just because we're in the matrix, doesn't mean we have to be properly fucked in the ass. Just look at Neo and the gang, they are still able to lurk the Matrix with minimal detection.

In fact, I'm shit posting on a mac right now.

>Just look at Neo and the gang, they are still able to lurk the Matrix with minimal detection
and Winnie the Pooh was able to walk around children without pants and get away with it
I don't see how movie references are relevant

You can be in the matrix but not completely fucked in the ass.

The only way out of the matrix is to live like stallman, use landlines, and just giving everything up. (Which I admit is impractical in the first-world).

Social media is the best and easiest route to getting laid ("""legally""") until you're 21 and you can slam random drunk whores from bars. Internet and e-mail is important for jobs, whether holding down a job (not talking flipping burgers here), or attaining a job.

Pragmatism > idealism

What's weird is a person is never as aroused by their body as much as you are. Even worse, they're aroused by YOUR body, which is, even if you consider yourself good-looking, a little incomprehensible and alienating. Dancing on the highwire of this disconnect is the firmament connecting you both extremely intimately even while you're supremely alien from one another.

I already ceded that email is important. Dumbphones can have a built in email client.

Then again, if email is required and your employer is decent, they would provide you with a smartphone which is a viable cover since it's work related.

>Social media is the best and easiest route to getting laid

That's not even a good point. I'm 25 and married. I've never tried Tinder and from what I gather it's just a bunch of hedonistic people looking for a quick fuck (which I'm not against, but totally not for me).

>I'm 25 and married.
Someone fucked up BIG time.

even modern dumb phones have so much features now that you cant really trust them. an old dumb phone without a color screen might be safer.

Happily married
That double income is too good. And we're having kids when we're 28-29.

It's nice bro.

Ride the hedonic treadmill. Sure you're married, but are you happily married? Do you ever wish you waited a bit longer to form such a commitment?
Life is at it's most bearable during the pursuit of pleasure, with the pleasure itself being the mere cherry on top.
Hope you two at least lost your virginities to each other, because if not you got married way too early. If you did, then good job locking down the only pure and simple relationship you'll have in this lifetime, unless one of you grows tired of it.
Could you elaborate? Your prose is delectable, however a tad vague.

feels good to not be a sex & smartphone addict

>Life is at it's most bearable during the pursuit of pleasure

And then it fades... away. The cycle of craving is unsustainable. That's another topic, though.

>Life is at it's most bearable during the pursuit of pleasure

No because we're good for each other. We balance each other. We already agreed that the modernity is disgusting. We're both Theravada Buddhist and met a monastery so I lucked out there.

To each their own. I honestly hope whatever you're doing leaves you with a sense of satisfaction.. Because I'm still only searching for that feeling.
The good ol' hedonic treadmill. Good for you pal, many years of happiness to the both of you. Buddhist eh? Boy practicing tantra and fully embracing the spiritual aspect must be something to experience.

>got lucky there

Once you rid your smartphone, you'll have more concentration and not be an AHDH millenial always looking for that dopamine hit.

Read a book, listen to music, fuck endlessly scrolling and reloading stuipid shit like Sup Forums.

>completely leave the matrix
Search for the one named Morpheus.

If I were doing anything illegal, or if I were totally paranoid to the point of being a mental cripple, then yes, your advice makies some sense. I am neither doing anything illegal, and neither am I paranoid. So are there any benifits for me in using your system of being undetectable or at least shrouded in a shield of mystery and dumb technology?

Enlighten me, indulge me.

There's a couple of argument if you're not concerned about privacy

1. Saves money; cheaper phone plans without data.
2. Less exposure to EMF; this is actually a growing concern, phones have been deemed to be partially carcinogenic
3. Improved attention span; lessening your dependence on entertainment and mindless browsing does wonders for your attention span.

My metadata from before the internet to today is background noise. If you aren't innocuous but you exist, you are suspect.

Real security is securing what matters, not boarding all your windows with signs saying "I'm a god! Fuck NSA! Come at me bro!)

Your personal data will not be stored or traded by corporations. But if you don't give a fuck about that, then honestly there is no advantage in it for you. Most people here do it because its their hobby and its a power thing too, people want to be in full control of their computational devices. Nobody will be able to convince you to care about privacy if you already don't care about your property getting locked down by some corporate jew.

That is an amazing way of putting it and I am quite interested in knowing how one of your stature are capable of coming up with such a a

paying out the ass to (((verizon))) so you can shitpost and watch anime on the go. Useful doesn't mean necessary.
If you're too weak-minded to sit in silence with your own thoughts for 5 minutes of the day, try a book. It's cheaper and will make you a better person.

I use it for basic things but never reveal too much information about myself.
I'm not on google, never gave my real name to anything online minus a single gmail account used only for job interviews. No facebook, no twitter or instagram or snapchat or anything with a real name attached and I've only ever used twitter for a little bit.
It's never been an issue in the past but if at some point I'm asked during a job interview why I don't have a facebook I intend on setting one up, but locked down. Just a photo and never log into it.

I feel as if all the people saying you need a facebook or else you look suspicious are the same people who feel they can't escape it - so they try to drag you down with them.

I know it's off topic but I've hear Mr Robot is the only show that's accurate in terms of CS/hacking stuff. Is it true? Is this really how they do these things? Is this really what a security specialist in a corporation does?

I fucked up. "use it" as in use the internet.

ikr how else you gonna snap them chats

saw this on tv once. it was not realistic at all.

3. Kill yourself. No way of following you in to nonexistence.

>using parenthesizes as if they mean something.
What are you, 12?

It's not very realistic. Better than a lot of other representations of hacking in media, but that's a pretty low bar to set.

>no fun allowed
What are you, a jew?

>It's fun to be an edgy kid because its funny because its fun

>not wanting to be edgy
Are you a faggot? Is somebody having fun hurting your fee-fees? Who hurt you?

>And then it fades... away. The cycle of craving is unsustainable.
you may find this agrees with you, user: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dukkha
the idea that the pursuit of pleasure is not a durable foundation for well-being or happiness is a very old one. direct, basal pleasures must often be replaced by "meta" pleasures attained through what, on its surface, is suffering. this is presumably a quirk of our machinery; we have been programmed by evolution to endure privation, and so privation is in no short supply even in the utopian abundance some enjoy.

you are advised to maintain morale, friend.

Been wanting to make a thread like this. I'm new here so be nice but where do I learn about making my computer more private/secure?

Slowly read your own reply and imagine my face doing this. Do as many times as necessary for an accurate representation.

You look sad. I'd be too if I'd realize I'm a no fun faggot.

What you call the matrix is what Marx called the ruling ideology. What you are experiencing is alienation. Don't try to escape, dive in to it. It's the only way to escape it.

What Nokia models? Does talkase work in the US?

It depresses me really.
I don't want people having who I am, and selling it, that isn't right.
I don't do anything illegal, nothing even morally contentious.
Yet I still believe the government has no right to spy on my boring and normal life.
But I am at a disadvantage, I have a mostly unused facebook, google accounts and emails that are used often, a snapchat, and a few others.
It's mostly carry over from years ago when I just didn't care about anything, but now these days I'm recovering and thinking a lot about life, and it all just depresses me how people are allowed such control over our data.
I do want to leave it, I don't really play games that aren't old as shit, I'm tempted to install a Linux distro on some computer that I libreboot.
I'm not familiar with any of it but I do want to learn, and I've been trying to educate myself.
Maybe I'll escape one day, or maybe I'll concede that it's futile
