If you want help:
>State the budget & CURRENCY for your build
>List your uses, e.g. Gaming, Video Editing, VM Work
>For monitors, include purpose (e.g., photoediting, gaming) and graphics card pairing (if applicable)

CPUs:
>G4560/G4600 for non-gaming (light tasks) or bare minimum gaming builds with a dedicated graphics card
>R3 1200 - Budget builds (best with OC + fast RAM)
>i3 8100 - Better budget CPU; extra cost of the currently available Z mobos lessens the value of the CPU
>R5 1600 / i5 8400 - Great gaming or multithreaded use CPUs
>R7 / Used Xeon / Threadripper / i7 - Heavy Multi-Tasking / VM Work / Mixed use

RAM:
>Before buying RAM for Ryzen, check your Mobo's QVL or look for user reports
>Current CPUs benefit from high speed RAM; 3000-3200 MHz is ideal

GPUs:
>Crypto-Currency miners have driven GPU prices up (particularly Radeon)
1080p
>GTX 1050Ti and 3GB 1060 are the only reasonably priced cards; 6GB 1060 or 4GB 580 if you want to overpay a little
>GTX 1070 if you're looking for very high (100+) framerates and you have a CPU and monitor to match
1440p
>GTX 1070 / 1080 are standard choices; currently overpriced
>GTX 1080Ti if you're looking for very high (100+) framerates and you have a CPU and monitor to match
4K
>GTX 1080Ti

General:
>PLAN YOUR BUILD AROUND YOUR MONITOR IF GAMING
>A 240GB SSD is almost mandatory

help Sup Forums did i do good

why?

for gaming? looks alright

>G4560/G4600
lol

Help, please. Trying to make a gaming build, my last one died today.

Not sure where to go with processor (and by extension mobo) but I could afford an i7-8700K if I really wanted to stretch what I have. Also if there is anything wrong with anything else on the list I'd obviously like to hear it. pcpartpicker.com/list/QtGyGf and because of circumstances I already have the case, the monitor, the SSD and the 1080ti, so those aren't flexible at this point.

pcpartpicker.com/list/ZwT2XH

I currently have a 1700X/Asus Crosshair VI build with 32GB of DDR4-2400mhz. I'd like to turn it into a server and downclock the 1700X for 24/7 use. The link is for a gaming and light editing build (most of my editing will be done over the network using the 1700X based build).

For 1440p 60FPS gaming, is the 1600 still the go to chip? Is the stock cooler enough for a mild OC? Say 3.7ghz? Or should I get a better cooler? I would like to keep it low profile if possible to avoid taking up room.

Friendly reminder that 60hz is a meme.

>PALfags - 50Hz
>NTSCucks - 60Hz
>Sup Forums browsing and AAA graphically intensive games - 75-85 Hz
>multiplayer games - 100Hz
>competitive FPS/RTS - 144-165 Hz
>professional FPS - 240Hz

To really push that 144hz monitor, you're going to need to OC your CPU. And you're NOT going to get far overclocking the 8700k on that cooler you have selected. You need a heavy duty cooler. Noctua NH-D15 or 240mm AiO cooler minimum. In reviews, that 8700k was overpowering custom liquid setups with it's OC load.

The absolute state of the modern fapbrain

op is a fag

Well, honestly I'm not 100% on Coffee because since my computer is dead I'd really like tonbe able to build in the foreseeable future, that I'd also have to go nuts on the cooler doesn't help since that's already a budget stretch.

Are options that are more readily available not a good option? I want good, I'd like to get use out of my monitor certainly, but I don't need THE BEST OF THE BEST.

If you don't mind settling for around 85-95 FPS at a max, you can get a Ryzen R5-1600. Same amount of core and threads as the 8700k (6c/12t) but comes with a stock cooler, and the chip itself doesn't run nuclear. Associated with the lower cost of the chip, the motherboard will cost less for a good one as well. (ASrock B350 Pro4 goes for $90 for the ATX version new). A Ryzen chip of any kind can be adequately cooled with the cooler you have selected. You just got to make sure the cooler is AM4 compliant.

Is that monitor G-sync capable? If so, you're golden.

It is gsync, yeah. Is it really not worth going with a higher Ryzen or a high but available intel in comparison? As said, not dying for best of the best, but I wanted to get close without going broke.

does it count if I just edge to it? Like I don't reach full orgasm just the tip, so like not really that gay

it's still gay. You're allowed 2-3 strokes OR until you see the penis. Otherwise you're a faggot.

>coffee lake is out
2k units released doesn't really count

My 780 just died, what would be a good replacement? I have a 1080p monitor, and the rest of my specs are: i5 4690, 8gb ram @1600, 240gb ssd and a 1tb hdd.

Hmmm yes, evidence is needed.

What's the best blower style GTX 1080? The Gigabyte one is the cheapest in Canada at the moment so I'm currently leaning towards that. Do I just get a founders edition 1070ti?

I'm looking for a blower style because I'm going SFF.

3.7 is about the highest you can go on stock

how is it that ryzen 7 will outperform ryzen 5 cpus despite 99% of games lacking optimization for more than 4 cores?

>despite 99% of games lacking optimization for more than 4 cores?
Your supposition is wrong and is clearly contradicted by the evidence you yourself put forth yet you still cling to your ignorant notions

in a lot of cases it doesnt, in many cases the 1600(x) is faster because of higher overclocking potential on average
in some fringe cases it can be due to games supporting more threads, or due to the extra threads 100% handling background shit like windows updates, etc.

What do you guys think of the corsair 600q?

I'm running an Athlon X4 860K system with a GTX 650 and I'm looking to upgrade. Looking to spend ~700-800 without any accessories, if the build is especially good the budget is stretchable. I have USD. I'm wanting single-thread CPU performance for Paradox games and good value for the dollar on a GPU, but something that will keep up with the new System Shock and hopefully Cyberpunk 2077 when it comes out. Not looking to buy an AMD card, recently got fucked hard by AMD drivers, have made a few posts in the past few threads about it. Anyone have any build guides?

this is the best I could do pcpartpicker.com/list/4r7mbj
you're kinda screwed on gpu for now, 1070 is the minimum i would go for if you want any chance at keeping up with cyberpunk 2077, and beyond that for that budget it makes the most sense (with normal prices)
as for the cpu you'd be much better served with a 8600k for overclocking, but that also adds over 100 bucks in terms of price counting a cooler, so the 8400 it is. and you're stuck with z series instead of a cheaper b or h series, even though you dont get overclocking
also assuming that you're bringing your case and storage over, otherwise the budget with these parts is straight up blown out of the water

>pcpartpicker.com/product/Hh648d/msi-optix-g24c-240-1920x1080-144hz-monitor-optix-g24c
Is this a good 144hz monitor?
I am aware it is curved and has no VESA mount.

Appreciate the link, think I'll run with it if nothing better pops up. Do you know when 8600k's will be back in stock?

People actually sit in these threads to shill their preferred brand of cpu/gpu.

( i have a monitor and a mechanical keyboard)

>go

>register account on newegg
>set it to email me when 8400 becomes available
>less than 24 hours later buy one over an hour after they send a notification email
wow!

fa/g/ots, forgot to include sry

no one does, not even being a jack ass. intel rushed the release to remain relevant and try to get some market share back for Q4 and high availability wasnt planned for before january-feburary-ish, same reason the h and b series dont come out until then. waiting until then could help you save some money, and at that point amd is release zen+, which is on a different node iirc which could mean higher clocks, which could change a lot up, given that their IPC is roughly within +/- 5% of intel's, depending on task. assuming they can hit even 4.8 overclocking on this new node then you're gonna have the equivalent of a 8700k for 200 bucks. all depends on how bad you want/need an upgrade

why is ram more expensive than my fucking motherboard
why is ram more expensive than my fucking solid state drive
why is ram more expensive than my gold laced power supply
why is ram as expensive as my top of the line newly released computer processor
fuck you, ram

ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/JyLMjc
What changes should I make? Using for gaming.

>a trap wouldn't be just as desirable if not more so because no prego
what the fuck are you talking about? what kind of mental illness are you suffering that you belive this

im not sure how prices are up in leaf land but i know stateside you could save a shit ton going with a 1600 and a b350 board. you would lose performance, but not that much, and compared to the price the value would go way up.
youtu.be/MsnoN5dIPiE?t=10m8s
bear in mind too that you'll be bottlenecked by your gpu far more than in this case, and the difference will be even smaller

I ordered vega 56 and no one stopped me. She was also cheaper than that 1070 whore.

What fucking ugly bony ass...guess I have to hide this thread for now. Thanks for making me gag OP

why is ram more expensive than my gpu?

my man

1600 now and ryzen 2 later
or
1700x and stick with it

>She was also cheaper than that 1070 whore.
I highly doubt it lol 1070s are cheap now

>$544 leafs
y-yeah, cheap...

pcpartpicker.com/products/video-card/#c=369&sort=price&page=1
>$544
lol what?

>Vega 56 is priced at $700+ in leafland.
Liar. Post proof.

About $540 for vega and $600 for 1070 in my country. I also got free mic with her, now I can become real pro streamer :)
Never claimed I'm in Canada.

I smell bs

>to be scammed by Gsync or Vega
Wake me up when the miners are all broke

This is the Reddit profile of the girl who's in OPs pic, yes there is more.

reddit.com/user/scarycreature/submitted?sort=new

>USD

Vega 56 costs more than a 1080 in my country, it's fucking stupid.

>that fucking butter face
>only redeeming feature is apparently her feet

I think her face is kinda cute

she's pretty cute, dunno what you talking about

>poozen

Are there any lewd pics of anime vega? Asking for a friend.

This

Those fuckin feet are delicious

I want to fuck vega with fellow amd bros. Make her cry by telling her that nvidia is much better in bed and cheaper, but we still choose her because we like her more. Then when she's covered by our semen leave her there to dry she's a hot girl she's gonna dry fast and repeat.

honestly fucking ram prices

WHY ARE THE FUCKING RAM PRICES SO FUCKING HIGH

Because normies buying new phone every half a year and every phone now has 4gb ram.

>R5 1600
>GTX 1060 6gb
>8 gb RAM
>Biostar mobo, 1TB HD, 600w TT psu, aerocool case

I can get this for around $950 where I live (not a great place, building PCs was considered financial suicide just a few years ago). Is this an acceptable price?

Looks okay. It's pretty ramlet, but RAM is expensive as fuck nowadays.

Dont go biostar. They mightve improved in quality lately but theres no info on how long theyll last.

Go with asrock instead if on a budget.

I was worried about that, if it becomes an issue I may get another stick.
Luckily, years of shitty pc have taught me to kill pretty much every other process unrelated to what I'm doing.

Unfortunately I can't change the build as it comes already assembled...

I felt the same way about it though, went around and did some digging; many people were defending it and saying the same about asrock.
Will never know until I try, I guess.

for m.2 ssds, whats the difference between M and B+M?

so much salt over ram prices
best I can tell this is really similar to when I built my PC before this in late 2013, cost me like 80-90 bucks for 8gb of 1866 ddr3 ram
it's happened before and it'll happen again you losers

New pc
r8

dont care
there needs to be blood

fuck you

my 16gb ram should be 100 bucks MAX

The idea that you should buy a processor that you think will suit your needs rather than buying one out of bullshit football team fanboyism is heresy on Sup Forums.

the fuck is that mainboard
otherwise money could have been better spent

>Coffin Lake

>makeupaddiction
wtf

appreciate the info, i'll try and hold on until the new releases

thats a female thing. nearly ever bitch that doesnt look like a fucking hobgoblin will spam that shit and guarantee shops at ulta/sephora even though 90% of the time they have no fucking clue what they're doing and end up looking like a hispanic maid with clown makeup. its basic bitch shit.
>pro tip
watch some makeup videos on youtube and learn some basic shit, and then get a girl talking about that if she seem into makeup. women love to talk about themselves and they love it more when you seem to give a shit, plus 9/10 chance you're the first thing with a pair that displays any working knowledge of the shit

Posted in the used stuff thread, but I was curious, would there be anything wrong with getting a used monitor?

I've only had laptops for years, so I don't know how desktop monitors are these days. Do they get dimmer over time? Is there a way to see how many hours they've been on?

>would there be anything wrong with getting a used monitor?
I use a referbed monitor and it werks fine. Getting something through ebay or craigslist might be a bit sketchy. If you go with the latter I'd get a timestamp picture of the monitor working before actually going and buying it. Ebay will gladly refund you the money if you buy a broken monitor though

Couple of questions from someone building his first PC. Can I start assembling before my RAM sticks get here? Always see that as one of the first steps when I look up guides, but they don't look very difficult to put without removing my motherboard. I'm still saving up for the RAM, but I'm so excited to start building already. Second, can I go through setting up the bios and all that stuff before my SDD arrives? Pretty much just waiting on those two pieces and I just want to do everything I can just dive right in when they arrive.

How do I not get killed or scammed on second hand sites similar to craigslist?

If we go to a public place I can't test to see if it works
If we go to his house he could just close door behind me and tell me or person holding the money to hand it over
If I tell him to ship it, he could shit jack shit or ship a broken one

Make him go to your house and have a ton of friends over.

stop being a faggot

nice βait but the whole point is to reproduce the genes that want one to reproduce.

so i bought a new gpu (gtx 1080) but i have a 6700 non k and a 600w psu. since upgrading my pc has just been randomly shutting off and restarting when i play games or even when i'm just watching a video. Is my psu busted?

when malfunctioning happens upon installing a new part, most likely the problem lies with the new part

wait, if youre going to someones house how would they rob you without repercussion? Unless you're dumb enough to walk into a crack den how would they rob you? Would they do a home invasion and set up a fake transaction? Would they pull a gun on you at their mothers house? I think it's fairly safe to go to someones house friend.

I'm sad I don't have time to play anymore

I'm too paranoid I guess

Ask for a video of the item working. I had a N64 that I was selling, just recorded a quick 15 video with my phone showing it worked and made it an unlisted Youtube video and emailed to him.

If someone really wants to sell something, it should be a little to no issue, just ask them for a video of the gpu or memory and bring up Speccy or something.

Personally, I never go to other people's homes or invite to my own home, I always go to a neutral place. Usually a gas station or fast food place on a main road with lots of traffic, there's a Carl's Jr across the street from a police station I meet with people in my city. My buddy who lives in a bigger city meets at the local Frys. Depends on your city, I guess, but I'd bring someone with you if you are nervous.

I've got 6600k, Nitro Fury, Asus MG279Q (1440p 144Hz) that works well.
Is there even any point to upgrading anything right now?
>inb4 works well
