Reminder that Russia won the space race when they put the first human in orbit

Reminder that Russia won the space race when they put the first human in orbit

The US just kept changing the finish line until they finally got to one first then stopped playing

If we didn't do anything sure
But just because it took the first step doesn't mean they won
You know like a race you can't stop just because some is ahead

...

Only one of those countries still exists.

sure buddy, keep telling yourself that.

i don't care either way to be honest
i would care if i could travel amongst the stars

its all rather petty

>Russia won the space race
true
>The US just kept changing the finish line until they finally got to one first then stopped playing
>then stopped playing
not really, they have put more money into space exploring than any other country

>OP's Slav parents left the Worker's Paradise for the Capitalist West

Really makes you think.

You have to stay on earth so you don't spread your cancer to space.

Future US colony ships will take off into space to carry on the torch of civiliztion while the last brit on earth is running away from cannibals.

Ok.

>first communications satellite
>first weather satellite
>first reconnaissance satellite
>first successful Venus and Mars probes
>first liquid hydrogen rocket engine
>first orbiting space telescope
>first manmade object to exit the solar system
>first completely successful space station (that didn't fail in orbit/get the crew killed/fail to reach orbit)
>first docking of two spacecraft
>first tetherless spacewalk
>first human beings to exit LEO
>first recovery of a manmade object from space

Reminder that I made a real thread, not a shitpost,

I.E. go to catalog and search for Maps

>slaving for the 0.0000001% until you die AND your family dies
>petty

Alright. Commie.

*yawn*

And we will end it littering space with garbage.

Keep dumping money into private space firms then

ah yes,the famed AMERICAN rocket scientist Werner von Braun WON the space race

US has won the space race because Soviet Union has stopped existing and Russian space program is... well... good enough to shuttle the people to the station and back.

Other than that it's an ongoing process, not something that could be ended at arbitrary moment. Russia was ahead at times, but after the Ukrainian engineer died they lost a lot of talent that was keeping them in business.

...who wouldn't have been anything without Robert Goddard inventing the liquid fueled rocket engine.

>muh Wernher
Wernher didn't send us to the moon you cunt

Private space firms send ex-government employees to space. Either way it's going to be a small group of specialists going to space, not regular people.

Well, the Russians stole German technology too.

Well actually he kind of did.

>Western Russaboos

Although I prefer Russia to the USA, you just wrong and/or lie.

I think Russia set a record for people killed in an on-pad explosion of a rocket. They also dropped a radioactive satellite on Canada once.

Besides, first woman in space isn't really that relevant of an accomplishment except to Tumblr.

It's going to be quite a while before regular people are able to go to other planets, so it's kind of a moot point I guess

'Space Race' is a specific time. During the Cold War.
Space Race ended when the Soviet Union collapsed.

I'd think the moon landings are pretty relevant today given all the technological advances that came out of them.

Properly speaking, the space race ended with the final moon landing in 1972.

>it's another let's confuse race into space with space race
>he also thinks the London Marathon leads up to London rather than taking place in London

>be on a race with somebody
>die
>you win
?

No one itt used the word irellevant, OP just claimed Russia won

no their moon shot killed their space program in 66
the rockets that shuttle people were designed before that

I think one of the inherent failings of the Soviet program was the overweening importance of the military. Defense-related space programs got most of the priority and the army were reluctant to support anything not directly beneficial to them.

The Russians did a lot of things first because their space program was very secretive, they would only report things if they were successful.
The US program was a big public spectacle so they were always worried about the public blow-back of getting guys killed just to beat the Russians in what people thought was a big dick waiving contest, but it was really a race to dominate space militarily and improve our ICBM program.

They only had one rocket family in the early years (the R-7) which meant fewer hardware to debug than our 15 or something rocket families.
