>CPUs
A8-9600 - Absolute bare minimum gaymen without a dedicated GPU.
G4560 - Absolute bare minimum gaymen w/ a dedicated GPU.
R5 1400 - Best with OCing & high-speed RAM.
i5-8400 - Best value for gaymen
R5 1600 - Best value for mixed uses
R7, used Xeon, Threadripper, or 8700k - Heavy multi-tasking & mixed uses

>GPUs
* Crypto-Currency miners have driven GPU prices up, using an old GPU or waiting to build may be a good idea right now.
1060 3GB - 1080p 60fps at medium/high settings, anything below this just buy an Optiplex and put this GPU or better in.
1060 6GB or RX 580 - 1080p 60fps at ultra settings, former supports G-Sync, latter supports Freesync
1070 - 1080p 144fps / 1440p 60fps at ultra settings
1080 TI - 1440p 144fps / 4k 60fps at ultra settings

>RAM
Check your Mobo's QVL if your buying Ryzen
Ryzen CPUs benefit a lot from high speed RAM, 3200(+)MHz is ideal

yeah just hit that customize button, create a custom profile, and bump the hz up until you get artifacting

Hows my new build?

> Case: Thermaltake P3
> PSU: Evga 1000w
> CPU: ryzen 1700x
> GPU: Vega 64
> RAM: 16gb corsair rgb @ 3000mhz
> MOBO: Gigabyte Gaming K3
> Cooler: Kraken x62

Also, since I only play cs:go... should I ditch windows altogether now? I saw that cs:go runs on linux - how's the performance? Is there mouse acceleration on linux?

Which distro should I go with? I'm decent at linux... i don't want to use ubuntu.

Cheers

used rx 580 for 180?
yeah or nah i talked the guy down im pretty sure its as good as i can get with 180 bucks
its only the 4gb version but shit i don't have a graphics card and i need one

yeah

>gaming
>specs are right there 1440p/144hz
>currency is in the link (AU)
>budget is ~$3k

I told you yesterday: Linux is trash for gaming.
Partially because of mediocre optimization, mostly because of garbage compatibility.

the only thing i'm worried about is someone else getting it before me. i have to drive out and get it. which i don't mind my doctor appointment is out there. But it is on Tuesday and this is a deal i hope i don't lose

The 120mm fan you selected isn't PWM.
Get a Hitachi/HGST hard drive if you can.

what ibm server case would make a good sleeper build?

Is all 3200 ram retardedly priced?

go up there tomorrow then if you can afford the gas

>dont upgrade your monitors you only need 1080p

so what else do i spend my tax returns on? nothing else makes sense to upgrade till i have higher res monitors

yes

ibm aptiva

upgrading your monitor is fine if your gpu can handle it

ok what if i want to VM a linux distro?

Upgrade to a 2K IPS and then get a Ryzen/Coffee Lake and a 1080 Ti and RAM to match.

i have a 1070 but i cant find any 1440p 60 hz monitors and peoole shout at me about 1080p 144hz sinxe i need 27 inches

>isn't pwm
thanks, didn't realise that
>Hitachi/HGST
what is the benefit of that? Hitachi 3gb isn't available here and the 4 is considerably more expensive

if you can't afford it don't get it, but hitachi/hgst are known for having the most reliable hdds. atleast swap the toshiba for a wd drive.

Why?

>hitachi deathstar
>reliable

R3 1200 is a great budget CPU

>GPUs
1050Ti is a great, appropriately priced, budget graphics card.

>just buy an Optiplex and put this GPU or better in.
Can't; the Optiplexs do not have 6+2 pin power connectors from the PSU. >inb4 replace PSU; Can't, proprietary connection between mobo and PSU. Best graphics card an Optiplex can accept is a 1050Ti, which for ideological reasons you are too stupid to include in the OP.

>1060 3GB - 1080p 60fps at medium/high settings
>1060 6GB or RX 580 - 1080p 60fps at ultra settings
Oh wow, you're telling me that 10% difference in performance enough to bump up my PC from Medium to ULTRA???? OMG yes I've been looking for a silver bullet like this

the last chart I saw had Toshiba as one of the lowest failure rates beneath WD

>using car tuning terminology for computers
IBM System X3200 looks quite neat though.

have you ever riced your deaktop?

Ignore the person below you. He's just mad you're not going with Ryzen

You don't need a CPU cooler

Overkill PSU
Dumb CPU + graphics card for CSGO

Could have been used for mining, but yeah that's a good deal.

>1440p 60 hz monitors
Why would you want that in the first place? If you're spending a chunk of change on a display you should get something good

people tell me my 1070 cant handle 1440 144hz even though i can find monitors like that easily

au.pcpartpicker.com/user/sintane/saved/crBqkL

My current gaming PC
Going to buy a 1050ti or second hand 960 in new year.
Thoughts?

CSGO (Max Settings) 80FPS
GTA V (720p Med Settings) 60FPS
Overwatch (Min Setting 720p) 45FPS

Paid £5 for Monitor from bootsale
GPU: £25 Secondhand
RAM: £20 Secondhand
Hard Drives were both Second hand and cost £40 total
PSU: £5 Secondhand

CPU, MOBO and Case were brand new costing £95 for CPU and £70 for Case and MOBO

So I might be retarded but how do I set a custom resolution with the AMD drivers? It lets me create them, but I can't figure out how to select it.Trying to lock my 144hz monitor to 60Hz but it's not applying.

>no Asus ROG Swift and Acer Predator as recommended monitors
>no i7-8700k for the 1440p+ builds
>considering wifi even at medium tier
>no noctua nh-d15 for the i5 builds
>3000 Mhz RAM for Ryzen and i5

No, I'm far to lazy for that on my Linux and on my Windows I don't see the point.

>rog

because its crap no one nedds a monitor with no vesa and lights on its base

>acer

shit brand to begin with

They're literally the best monitors for gaming at this moment.
Also, those monitors aren't even IPS.

but you recognize ricing as a computer term?

>r7, vega 64, and 1000w psu for csgo
is this bait?

Just get a cheap ass gtx 1050 or rx 560 and an r5.

>best monitors for gaming

fuck off shill

In the same sense as sleeper. I know what's it from you know...

how much does shintel pay you to go on a fucking crusade? Or do you do it for free?

...

Thou can search it up.
Also why recommend something for 2K that is not even IPS? the OLED is nice, but if is not IPS is dogshit.

>You don't need a CPU cooler
I know the stock is loud and I'm trying to reduce that.

au.pcpartpicker.com/list/QVRpXH

Is there anything I can improve on? I'm thinking about the 1600x instead. Not sure if it's worth it.

va is better than ips by vast measures

why is everything so expensive?

On response times.
by fucking 4 ms.
IPS is way better on image quality.

That doesn't do anything. Like I said, I can create the custom resolutions but they won't apply.

ya sure ok

prove it

>au

>VA panels provide a good middle ground with better-than-IPS refresh rates and contrast levels, but have worse viewing angles and color production, although generally still better than TN. Response times are VA’s largest downfall, though, being slower than IPS and its variants and TN.
gamersnexus.net/guides/1890-panel-comparison-tn-ips-pls-va-crt

You can search more prove if you want.

i do development work and prefer unix for dev,

which is the main reason i asked my question yday and today

but if i go ips how am i supposed to get 1440p at 144hz on a 27 inch panel while still getting 2? i will NOT be reduced to a single monitor

that fucking fan hahahaha

what is the best cpu cooler that isnt a gigantic monster with 2 fans and the tower of doom

I want one low profile fan with max cooling

you wanted to play the coldness follows this isnt a game your life all swallowed and i cant help but smile at your pain you wanted to play but i already won

>dual monitor
would rather kill myself than have a bezel in the centre

you dont atretch your game over 2 monitors you idiot you game on one and do video watching/surfing on the other

What do you mean? The ROG Swift and the Predator are 1440p@165hz with 4ms response time and both have G-Sync and both of them are IPS.
And also, if you mean dual monitor there's nothing stopping you from getting two, also this Then get two of them. Nothing stops you from doing so desu

Oh, I figured it out. You have to turn ON VSR, it's the opposite of Nvidia where you have to turn OFF DSR. Also you have to manually go into the Windows Display Adapter Properties, go to the monitor tab, and change your refresh rate there. Nvidia does it automatically which is why I was confused.

cryorig c7

Your king likes the ROG Swift.
youtube.com/watch?v=b3ImK3WMBm4

i dont have 1400 dollars to throw at monitors user and i will never buy acer might as well burn my money in the firepit

thats not my king thats a spindly little faggot

my king is jesse cox

The monitors I have listed are the best that exist right now. If they aren't available on your country, tough luck: do your own research.

Resolution does not impact CPU performance.
Wifi is an option.
No cooler is necessary
Why the fuck would you not get fast RAM?

All your comments are worthless.

What is the max 24/7 voltage I can use for DDR4 RAM?

I bought a 3600MHz kit and passed 8 passes/5 hours of memtest86 at 3900MHz 1.36V, would like to take it a bit higher if I can.

>not de-bezeling
sux 2 be a non/diy/

It's theoretically 1.5V, it can run fine at 1.5 since it's based off of DDR3 which used 1.5, most of the improvements to DDR4 are power efficiency. I'd probably keep it at 1.4-1.45 for overclocking. Tbh high speed RAM usually has big ass heatsinks nowadays so it's not like they get hot at all.

most reviewers/forum posts say their ddr4 has no problems @1.4v for long term, and 1.5v for benchmarks. Keep in mind that a lot of high frequency kits are rated at 1.5v for their frequencies

Just go to lowes/home depot and buy hella PVC pipes

>The monitors I have listed are the best that exist right now. If they aren't available on your country, tough luck: do your own research.
Citation needed, also you only putted Nvidia GPUs while the Samsung is Freesync.
>Resolution does not impact CPU performance.
Never said it impacted it, also why not go for better?
>Wifi is an option.
Well, your correct in that
>No cooler is necessary
Enjoy your fucking high temps with an Intel Stock Cooler
>Why the fuck would you not get fast RAM?
Never said it could be slower, ever heard of 3200 Mhz?
>All your comments are worthless
Can't stand some criticism?

it doesn't cool for shit though

whats wrong with my mobo?

brand new just put this pc together a couple of hours ago

Thanks senpaitachi.

I think when I enable XMP it just automatically sets 1.35V. Is it normal to be able to overclock RAM so high? I was under the impression that RAM was pretty stringently binned and that what it was rated at was what you'd get, I was surprised to get another 300MHz for a 0.01V increase.

>asrock

thats what you get

>Asrock B350
Ouch, user.
Well, you, but those who can afford so will go for them because they are the best you can get.

whats a good upgrade from an i3-6100 if i wanna stay with the b150 mobo my brother has? rx470 gpu if that matters. was thinking 6600k/7600k

Oh shit son.

they have rediculous lights on the stand and no vesa mounts how can i have late night gaming sessions with red leds fucking me up? and how can i make sure tjey are comfy without a proper mount?

any help?

housefire b350

Turn them off them.

doesnt solve the no vesa mount the stand they come on isnt near good enough

is it worth it to buy the more expensive ones or is it all the same shit?

Jesus fuck Vega sounds like a 747 taking off inside my computer.

>Gaming

Fucking buy one on amazon or ebay then.
Lord, how can thou be so complicated over so minuscule details?

Go straight to an i7. Don't bother with an i5. But you won't see a huge uplift with just a 470.

locked 6700 then? a locked 7700 stil goes for $260. ridiculous

I HAVE BUILT PCS FOR 15 YEARS AND SUCK AT CABLE MANAGEMENT

PLEASE TEACH ME

>Replace PSU
>Boot up, everything is fine
>Computer goes to sleep
>Hit key to wake computer up
>Lights flash on then off
>Hitting power button on the case does the same thing
>Toggling PSU on and off doesn't help

What did I do?

no point in getting a k with that mobo unless you get a used z170.

Air 540 is objectively the best case ever made

pcpartpicker.com/list/bKVswV

I'm gonna spend the extra on a i7 so I won't have to upgrade for a while , should I go with 1070 for fast 1080p to 1440p or save and get a 6gb 1060??? Also first build and basically want yo run any game current gen at 60fps minimum and won't have to worry about upgrading anything for 3-5 years... just want 1440 max currently not interested in 4k don t wanna spend too much on monitOr, rate me build

Don't bother upgrading the CPU right now

Call ASRock tomorrow

The monitors are the best because they are VA panel (color and viewing angle of IPS and refresh rate and response time of TN) and HDR10. I don't know of any G-sync monitors that have those features, so I'm not going to list any G-Sync monitors until they improve. Same thing with 4K, not listing until high refresh rate monitors come out.

>why not go for better CPU
You'll be graphics card limited with an i5 8400. It can max out the vast, vast, majority of games.

>high temps with an Intel Stock Cooler
No

>ever heard of 3200 Mhz
Sure, but it's not that different and anyone can change that shit if he wants

>Can't stand some criticism?
As long as it's valid, but I haven't seen anything interesting from you yet

That article is from 2015, long outdated.

if it happens everytime you put it to sleep you either need to update your bios or you have a short somewhere in your system like the mobo is touching a standoff in a weird way or something.

speaking from experience here.

Cable ties.

to the average user it's all the same, some cooler designs are better for overclocking htan others but mostly the rest is marketing.
