is there anything better?

The king of IDEs

>100GB

>try to open a 10GB text file
>freezes and hangs

The best text editor... Only shame is that it does not have a commandline version.

If you work with 10gb text files your workflow is geared towards handling that. Also vim can manage 10GB just fine.

This

Fuck off, nobody installs all the features and has 100GB

someone please post girl with emacs shirt

Unironical question
Where on the fuck does anyone handle singular 10GB+ text files

When some dev has dumped all their sources into one single source file for the sex of portability

My install is using ~60GB. Still way too much for an IDE. I do appreciate how well it works though.

this

I'm a Vim user who's currently giving Emacs a try (although in Evil-mode, Vim keys are way too handy to give up). Sometimes I also use Atom.

I spent the last few days exploring emacs for the first time (after 15 years of using vim) and holy fucking shit, is it comfy! I think I might've wasted 15 years on the wrong side of the eternal the vi(m) vs. emacs holy war.

Why emacs when there us visual studio?

it's either nano or vim or kys

Emacs is infinitely customizable, runs out of a flash drive, low processing requirements, FOSS, and gratis, not to mention how much longer it's been around, and its extensive support for languages that the college kids using VS never even heard of. Oh, and I can only assume it works on more operating systems than VS.

I'm not trying to be elitist. I'm hoping this answers the question of why people would use Emacs at all. I like to think I understand why people use Visual Studio, as well.
