I just tried arch+i3 to see what all the fuss is about, and I legit don't understand why the fuck anyone would prefer it to something like GNOME >Muh screen real estate Alt-tab, and having more than 2 tiles is rarely necessary or practical unless you have a 24'+ HD+ screen. >Muh keyboard only usage Instead of needing to mod+Enter then type a command to open something, why not just mod+{first few letters of program name}, like in literally any respectable DE? >Muh RAM I have 4 GB on my laptop and I've never run into problems unless I've fucked up my own code
Can anyone give me a good reason to switch? The only reason I can see is having more flexibility when it comes to customisation, but with a good GTK and icon theme, GNOME does that well too.
do you always seek acceptance to every single one of your decisions or are you unable to make them by yourself?
>Can anyone give me a good reason to switch? But you obviously don't fucking want to, so why do you even ask this? Noone forced do to shit or use shit. Use whatever you like
Dylan Walker
ubuntu is perfectly fine but GNOME is fucking shit

>linux >customization
lol
h t t ps://w ebmshare. com/0B7zg remove the spaces Sup Forums is crying about "spam" for some reason.
Landon Hill
Did someone piss in your cornflakes? I'm asking for opinions. There must be a reason why half the Linux users I know think Ubuntu is shit
Why

>Vanilla windows with an animated background
You could have at least gotten a custom icon pack or added some rainmeter shit dude
They changed from a bad DE to the worst DE. They still have shit like the Amazon webapp while pretending to be all community oriented. Their package manager is shit and ppas are even worse. I could go on but I'm on a device Gnome wishes it would run on so typing is a bit of a chore.

Your opening statement is in contrast with the rest of your post. You do realize distros are more than just DEs, right?
As for i3, even on a 11.6" 1366x768 screen I quite regularly have three windows open (one vertical split, other side of which has been split horizontally). Being able to resize and move them around using only the keyboard (and vim bindings at that) is very convenient and further enhanced by choosing to use other software with vim bindings. File browsing? Ranger in terminal. Web? Qutebrowser. Text editing? Nano... I mean Vim! I can just keep my hands on the home row all day long.
Instead of opening a terminal each time I want to launch something I use dmenu (mod+d+{first few letters of program name}). And I know my windows will spawn exactly where I want them. If you don't get i3 or want to use it then fine, don't use, stick to Gnome if you wish. It really is comparing apples to oranges. DEs and WMs just aren't directly comparable, nor are WMs with different paradigms behind them.
Jayden Thomas
How the fuck can people even use GNOME? Those titlebars are absurd.
James Morgan
That's because it is a spam
Asher Jackson
>mod+Enter then type a command to open something Nobody does this. People who use i3 or other tilling wms have all their hotkeys set in the config file. It's way faster than using a DE
Anthony Carter
wtf does any of this garbage have to do with Ubuntu
Jack Green
OP is a dumbfuck, he doesn't know the difference between a DE, a WM and an OS
Leo Green
i3 supports dmenu functionality, and even ships with a wrapper that allows for searching .desktop exclusive shortcuts... your second point is very moot

>I don't get why Sup Forums hates Ubuntu. because its popular. Think 4/v/ and how they hate anything which is popular and bandwagon on this which their heard were cult classics to try to fit in. Same thing happens here weeaboos use arch linux and spend all their making it look pretty for sreenfetch threads
Adam Williams
go back to youtube, luke.
Nathaniel Young
Mostly because dipshits like you think that the default DE that a distro comes with is even relevant when choosing.
Bentley Martinez
CANONICAL is shitty botnet that's why

Used arch and bspwm for a year then went back to ubuntu/gnome. gnome can be more efficient with better keyboard shortcuts. I changed the ones I use the most to their closest counterpart that I was using in bspwm.
Samuel Hall
Hobbyists think it's leet to configure desktops where it's the most plebeian and tedious thing possible.
Ubuntu is a secure and stable os, with good defaults and tested integration.
Luis Evans
This.
I've never understood why all the UI elements are so fucking massive in default gnome. Using a GTK theme does help though.
Christopher Kelly
cringe you are like a little baby

dont tell him what to do fagot
arch>deb/ubun sorry but its true used both

>I don't get why Sup Forums hates Ubuntu. >I'm not autistic enough for this board: The Post (aka I'm a tech illiterate)
Really? You had to make a thread to tell us that?

So that it scales better on resolutions that are bigger than 1366 × 768.
