Just host your shit on your own machines and you're fine

Honestly why not just buy a decent NAS? The investment pays for itself and you can just connect it straight to your machine so there's only the LAN part, no outsider can touch your data.

Fuck you can even throw another 80 bucks and get a 10gigabit card.
Now you can fill your ass with animu and shota trap doujins until you have an OD.

>buying a NAS
Real men use some podunk shit pc they had laying around with 10 hdds in it running FreeNAS

my old hdds are very loud so i put it in the garage

probably going to collect a bunch of weird shit in the fans now

Never going to have the same speeds and reliability plus added bonus like hotswap.

But FreeNAS indeed has its uses.

>plus added bonus like hotswap
you know you can just plug and unplug hard drives that are connected through sata? all modern boards support hotswap

>2020
>buy 5tb external harddrive
>only get a 3tb drive in a shell
>mfw they pool everyones unused space together to make up for the extra 2 tb that not everyone uses
ITS A BUSINESS MODEL GOY, YOU DONT "OWN" YOUR HARDDRIVES, YOU BOUGHT A LICENSE TO USE THE DRIVES

I have hot swap bays in the case bruh
Speed is fine too

>Now you can fill your ass with animu and shota trap doujins until you have an OD.
this is the best damn thing Ive read in a while.

Did you buy some used server? Because the cost of all that stuff from ground up plus operation will be way higher than a little NAS who doesn't consume a lot of wattage.

Why not just buy an old Dell, throw in a hotswap bay and install FreeNAS or Rokstor?

No as I said I used shit laying around

stop giving them ideas you fuck

Yeah, I could see normiedumbs falling for this.

This is why you build your own NAS with OS of choice. It's cheaper and your data isn't monetized.

>not using owncloud

What?

If you buy a mini-itx mobo with integrated celeron or atom CPU you blow all synology NASes out of the water with a TDP of 12 Watts. These mobos are between $70-100. A mini-itx case with 4 hot swap bays is something you can buy for the same price and all mobo's support hot swapping as well.

Literally NO reason to buy a pre-built NAS, unless you're a lazy cunt.

>He thinks a NAS in 2020 actually has a storage device.

Congrats on the Halloween themed build.

Nextcloud is free, an orange pi and and old hdd don't cost that much
Stop being a normal fag or go back to facebook/instagram/twitter
